The method includes: receiving, by a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS), a Receive Channel Profile (RCP) with respect to a downstream physical layer of a CM; composing, by the CMTS, a plurality of channel configuration information required for setting the RCS of the CM with reference to the RCP; encoding, by the CMTS, the plurality of channel configuration information, and transmitting the encoded plurality of channel configuration information to the CM; transmitting, by the CM, an RCP with respect to a downstream physical layer to a CMTS; receiving, by the CM, a plurality of channel configuration information being composed with reference to the RCP and being required for setting the RCS; and setting, by the CM, the RCS using the plurality of channel configuration information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of controlling a downstream service flow is provided. A method of controlling a downstream service flow, the method including: receiving a control request with respect to a service flow; generating classifier information for identifying a Quality of Service (QoS) classification standard of the service flow for which a generation request is performed, and registering the generated classifier information in a table when the control request is the generation request for the service flow; registering a pattern mask corresponding to the classifier information in the table; and composing the table for searching for downstream service flow information of a downstream input packet using the classifier information and the pattern mask.

Abstract: A method of operating a headend system for a downloadable conditional access service, the method including: receiving, by an Authentication Proxy (AP) server, basic authentication information from a Downloadable Conditional Access System (DCAS) host, the basic authentication information being required to authenticate the DCAS host; transmitting, by the AP server, the basic authentication information to an external trusted authority device which authenticates the DCAS host; generating, by the AP server, a session key for encrypting/decrypting a secure micro client using a session key sharing factor; obtaining, by the AP server, download-related information of the secure micro client from a DCAS Provisioning Server (DPS); and commanding, by the AP server, an Integrated Personalization System (IPS) server to download the secure micro client to the DCAS host based on the download-related information, the secure micro client being encrypted by the session key.

Abstract: Disclosed are a system and method for monitoring a headend cable modem on a digital cable network, which may monitor a headend cable modem using a configuration management message capable of controlling the headend cable modem. The system includes a message header unit for monitoring the headend cable modem by exchanging a configuration management message including configuration information for controlling channel boding of the headend cable modem and state information of the configuration information with the headend cable modem; and a message varying unit including the configuration information corresponding to the message type information and the state information.

Abstract: A method of operating a Secure Micro (SM) of a host in a Conditional Access (CA) system is provided. The method includes: receiving, by the SM, a SecurityAnnounce message including a certificate of an AP server connected with a host; determining, by the SM, whether a public key stored in a memory in advance exists, and setting a flag as a first state when the public key stored in advance exists; verifying, by the SM, a digital signature with respect to the SecurityAnnounce message using the public key stored in advance; and acquiring, by the SM, another public key of the AP server by parsing the certificate and setting the flag as a second state based on whether the flag corresponds to the first state when the SM is unable to verify the digital signature.

Abstract: A method of supporting a mobility of a Downloadable Conditional Access System (DCAS) host is provided. The method includes: by the second authentication proxy server: performing mutual authentication with a secure micro of the host to generate a session key; requesting an integrated personalization system to download a secure micro client to the host, wherein the secure micro client is encoded using the session key; and transmitting, to a DPS, mapping information between the second authentication proxy server and the secure micro of the host, wherein, in response to receiving the mapping information, the DPS instructs a CAS server to transmit an entitlement management message to the network of the second authentication proxy server without transmitting the entitlement management message to the network of the first authentication proxy server.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of transmitting a resource-request for efficiently using a Service Identifier (SID) resource in a Cable Modem (CM) system supporting upstream channel-bonding relates a method of transmitting an upstream packet in the CM system for performing transmission using a plurality of upstream channels. Since a difference between a resource-request and resource-allocation when performing an additive resource-request with respect to new-generated packets before completing resource-allocation with respect to a previous resource-request transmitted by a CM causes an upstream transmission queue depth increase in the CM and delay due to the increase, a method of solving the above-described problem is provided. A method of recalculating a bandwidth amount requested by a CM using a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) having received a Cumulative (bandwidth) Request (CR) and an Additive (bandwidth) Request (AR) from the CM is provided.

Abstract: A digital cable broadcasting receiver and a method of authenticating the digital cable broadcasting receiver, the digital cable broadcasting receiver includes: a security module unit to perform a device authentication process using two-way communication with a Head End (HE) system, and to transmit authentication verification information generated by the device authentication process to a receiver central processing unit (CPU); a demodulation unit to demodulate a broadcasting signal received from a tuner based on the authentication verification information, and to extract transport stream data; the receiver CPU to control power of the demodulation unit based on the authentication verification information; and a decoding unit to restore the transport stream data into image data.

Abstract: A cable modem initialization method and apparatus using a queue-depth-based band request frame in a Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network relates to a method and apparatus of requesting a Cable Modem Transmission System (CMTS) for band allocation so that a cable modem supporting a plurality of transceiving channels may transmit upstream data in an HFC network. A method of transmitting the queue-depth-based band request frame that requests the band allocation by a byte length of a transmission buffer when the cable modem performs an initialization process is provided.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for allocating upstream channel resources in a hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) network are provided. A cable modem termination system (CMTS) previously provides cable modems (CMs) with a plurality of burst profiles through an extended interval usage code (IUC) of an upstream channel descriptor (UCD) message, and allocates resources to CMs by using an optimized burst profile according to an upstream channel status, thereby increasing transmission efficiency of an upstream channel.

Abstract: Provided is an automatic gain control (AGC) apparatus of a cable modem. The apparatus includes: a gain controller for measuring a power level of digital input signals transmitted from outside, accumulating the measured values of the digital input signals for a predetermined period, acquiring an average size of the signals, and calculating an error value between the average signal size and a predetermined signal size; an amplitude control unit for receiving error values adjusted by the gain controller and controlling an amplitude of the signal; a low pass filter for receiving the signal outputted from the amplitude control unit and performing low pass filtering on the signal; and a signal size control unit for receiving the signal obtained from filtering of the low pass filter and controlling the signal size.
