Abstract: Provided is a digital broadcasting conditional access system and method using an Authorization Revocation List (ARL) for preventing an illegal pay broadcasting viewing after a secession time by promptly revoking an entitlement of pay service seceders through a periodical transmission of ARL that is daily or monthly prepared and updated to subscribers.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus for receiving cable broadcasting programs and a multiplexer and a de-multiplexer thereof for reducing data amount processed in a Cable CARD and for correcting synchronization of descrambled data stream. The apparatus includes: a multiplexing unit for filtering a broadcasting stream to select only programs selected by a viewer and multiplexing the selected programs; a conditional-access processing unit for receiving the multiplexed streams and processing the multiplexed streams for conditional access (descrambling); and a de-multiplexing unit for de-multiplexing the multi stream from the conditional-access processing unit and correcting a program clock reference (PCR).

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and a method for multimedia data transmission in a cable network using a broadband and physical layer frame structure. The apparatus includes an external network matching module for transmitting data inputted/outputted from/to an external network to a Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) Media Access Control (MAC) layer, a DOCSIS MAC processor for transmitting the data from the external network matching module to a corresponding destination, a first downstream physical layer processor for handling an existing standard transmission in the data from the DOCSIS MAC processor, a second downstream physical layer processor for dealing with a new broadband transmission in the data from the DOCSIS MAC processor, and an upstream physical layer processor for providing received data to the DOCSIS MAC processor.

Abstract: Provided is a method for providing a service based on a subscriber level. The method includes the steps of: a) initializing a Data Back-off Start (DBS) value and a Data Back-off End (DBE) value; b) acquiring subscriber information from an external management system; c) acquiring service flow identifier (SFID) and service identifier (SID) information from an object model for quality of service (QoS) based on information on Service Class Name (SCN) of the subscriber acquired in the step b); d) creating manufacturing automation protocol (MAP) according to a priority by grasping the SID information based on the service level and controlling the DBS value and the DBE value of a cable modem (CM); and e) transmitting the created MAP to the cable modem.

Abstract: Provided is a method for securing cable modem (CM) following a Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) against physical security attacks. The method includes the steps of: a) classifying information to be stored in the DOCSIS CM based on a requirement degree of confidentiality and anti-alteration; b) storing the information in a non-volatile memory of the DOCSIS CM when the information is absolute confidential information, but processing a mechanism for deleting the information stored in the non-volatile memory in case that attacks by a hacker is sensed; c) storing the information in the non-volatile memory of the DOCSIS CM when the information is middle-level security information; and d) storing the information in a write-once (WO) memory of the DOCSIS CM when the information is absolute anti-alteration information.

Abstract: A programmable error correcting device is disclosed. The programmable error correcting device includes a controller for receiving information about a length of a codeword, an error correcting capacity, whether of not a shortened codeword mode is supported and a total byte number of burst data and outputting a control signal; a preprocessor for dividing input information data by a length of information byte in a codeword and outputting the divided input information data with a valid data indicating signal in response to the control signal input from the controller for an error correcting coding; and a coder for deciding a structure for an error correcting encoding according to the control signal inputted from the controller and performing an error correcting encoding on information data inputted from the preprocessor according to the decided structure.

Abstract: Provided is apparatus and method for transforming cable channel. The apparatus includes a data mixing unit for receiving and mixing a band data and a first broadband data, to thereby generate a second broadband data of a broadband cable channel, and a channel adapting unit for dividing a band data from the second broadband data received through the broadband cable channel, bypassing the second broadband data to a first subscriber apparatus and transmitting the band data to a second subscriber apparatus.

Abstract: Provided are a data server for interactive data broadcasting service and an interactive data broadcasting service providing method using the same. The present invention provides a data broadcasting service where users can participate in real-time by processing messages inputted through a return channel according to each content. The data server includes: a contents registering unit for registering a content of data broadcasting service in a file system; a storage for managing and storing signaling information of the registered content; and a data processing unit for defining an application message for the content supporting an interactive service, identifying the kind of the content by receiving the message inputted through a return channel, updating the content by analyzing the inputted message based on structural information of the message to perform interactive data broadcasting service in real-time.

Abstract: An apparatus for receiving MPEG-2 A/V data by using a cable MODE is disclosed. The apparatus includes: a cable MODEM for separating broadcasting data and broadcasting supplementary data by demodulating an input signal; and a multiplexer for multiplexing the separated broadcasting data from the cable MODEM with broadcasting data inputted from other input source, and outputting the multiplexed broadcasting data to an external cable card.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for providing a pay-TV service based on a session key. The method includes the steps of: selecting a desired pay event using a program guide displayed on a system of the subscriber and achieving a subscriber private key; filling out a service application based on service information, signing the service application based on a digital signature scheme and encrypting the digital signed service application; transmitting the encrypted service application to a broadcasting station and waiting a response of the broadcasting station; receiving a session key and a subscription authority message from the broadcasting station, decrypting the session key and the subscription authority message and verifying the digital signature; decrypting a channel key, achieving a control word, descrambling event audio/video streams and watching the event; and if the event is terminated or the session key is not effective, stopping watching the event and deleting the session key.

Abstract: A method for subscribing a service and distributing encryption key based on public-key encryption algorithm in a digital CATV system are disclosed. In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method including the steps of: a) generating a charged service application message; b) generating a session connection request message, signing based on a digital signature scheme with appendix on the session connection request message and transmitting to the head-end; c) generating a symmetric-based session key, signing a digital signature on the key, encrypting based on a public-key of the subscriber, transmitting the session key to the subscriber; decrypting the session key message, verifying the digital signature, extracting the session key from the session key message and storing at a Condition Access Module; and d) signing a digital signature on the charged service request message, encrypting using the extracted session key and transmitting to the head-end.

The method of the present research forms updated object modules and non-updated object modules among the objects of the application data, transmits them to a subscriber's terminal, abstracts the updated objects in the subscriber's terminal among the objects transmitted from the headend, and outputs them onto a screen, when the objects of the application data are updated in the headend.

Abstract: A restricted reception device enabling a subscriber receiver to selectively receive broadcasting data transferred via a digital cable broadcasting network, includes: a demultiplexer for receiving broadcasting data and an ECM including a CW from the subscriber receiver, and demultiplexing them, the broadcasting data and the ECM being transferred through an in-band channel; an out-of-band channel signal processor for receiving an EMM from the subscriber receiver, and processing the EMM, the EMM being transferred through an out-of-band channel; a restricted reception processor for descrambling the scrambled broadcasting data using the ECM and the EMM received from the out-of-band channel signal processor; and a remultiplexer for multiplexing the descrambled broadcasting data received from the restricted reception processor, and sending the multiplexed broadcasting data to the subscriber receiver.

Abstract: The present invention properly updates a key in various situations in order to secure liability of a service in a conditional access system for a digital cable television service. A method for updating a key in a conditional access system of a digital cable television service includes the step of receiving a request of changing service from a point of deployment (POD) module of subscriber having bidirectional or simplex receiver, changing a service at the head/end and sending an entitlement management message (EMM) having a changed key from the head/end to the point of deployment (POD) module.

Abstract: A package service management system and method in digital cable broadcasting comprises: a host having middleware for receiving broadcast signals of a headend and bidirectional service information, and executing a package application program for providing a package service; a POD for analyzing data, and decoding a package subscription and termination message using an encoded key so as to allow or disallow watching channels; and a headend for defining package-setting information, transmitting it to the host or the POD, generating entitlement test messages on a paid channel, transmitting them to the POD, and transmitting the subscriber's encoded key according to a request by the POD. Therefore, the subscriber can watch TV and remotely subscribe or terminate a paid package service, thereby increasing user's convenience.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method which protect the header of an synchronous transfer mode (ATM) cell from the burst error by using reed solomon RS error correcting code in order to compensate the loss of the ATM cell on the link of the ATM cell and prevent the increasement of the overhead by applying a header error correction HEC bite to a forward error correction code FEC.

Abstract: Disclosed is a PSIP converter which comprises: a protocol data extractor for demultiplexing a terrestrial broadcasting TS or a satellite broadcasting TS, extracting audio/video data and PSIP/PSI data from the terrestrial broadcasting TS and audio/video data and SI/PSI data from the satellite broadcasting TS; a protocol data converter for using the PSIP/PSI data or the SI/PSI data to generate PSIP/PSI data of a corresponding digital cable television broadcasting standard; a protocol data inserter for inserting the digital cable television broadcasting standard PSIP/PSI data into the audio/video data extracted by the protocol data extractor through TS multiplexing, and generating a digital cable broadcasting TS; and a system controller for checking the protocol data extractor, the protocol data converter, and the protocol data inserter, and controlling their operation.
