  • Patent number: 10157491
Abstract: An apparatus for visualizing image material in a multimodal imaging environment. Images (XF, USV) from an X-ray imager (100) and an ultrasound probe (USP) are fused into an interactive graphics display (GUI) to form a 3D scene, where, alongside to a 3D rendering (USS) of an ultrasound volume (USV) an X-Ray projection plan (XF) is displayed in perspective within the same scene. The rendering is according to a user selected view (UV) which is changeable upon user interaction with the interactive graphics display (GUI).

  • Publication number: 20180214095
Abstract: Many medical procedures involve the implantation of an element in a vascular body. Current imaging techniques allow the positioning of such expandable elements to be checked, before and after implantation, using contrast bursts into the blood from a pigtail catheter. When the implantation of the medical device needs to be performed quickly, the pigtail catheter is pulled back briskly. This process is prone to error, because at the point of implantation, a medical professional has many other factors to consider, as well as the withdrawal of the catheter. If an implantable device traps the pigtail catheter during or after expansion, undesirable results can occur, such as having to pull sharply on the catheter to remove it, and in the process, disrupting the newly implanted device. This application discusses a technique for automatically generating a region of implantation around a medical device prior to and during implantation.

  • Publication number: 20180168532
Abstract: In cardiac roadmapping, a “roadmap”, which is typically a representation of the vasculature of a patient obtained via previously acquired data from a CT scan, is overlaid on live intervention data, showing the position of an intervention device obtained using fluoroscopy. In this way, the intervention device may be tracked inside a realistic representation of the patient. The accurate registration of the fluoroscopic image to the roadmap data is an important step, otherwise the reported live position of the intervention device would not be shown at an accurate position inside the roadmap. Registration can be performed by the injection of contrast medium. In the case of cardiac roadmapping, the small vessel diameters mean that it is possible to register intervention devices directly. However, the behavior of intervention devices in larger vessels is difficult to predict, and so device-based registration is harder to achieve in such a context.

  • Publication number: 20180165617
Abstract: In an airport baggage handling system bag information, flight information and airport topology information are provided to a central processor which determines a path for the bag through the handling system. The bag is scanned at various points along the path and the scan time is compared with a predetermined arrival time for the bag at the scan point. A bag is marked at risk if it arrives at a scan point after the predetermined time and the system may suggest an alternative handling path for the bag if it is determined that the risk of the bag not making an outbound flight is too high.

  • Publication number: 20180153489
Abstract: The present invention relates to determining optimal C-arm angulation for heart valve positioning. In order to further improve the workflow in relation with the correct positioning of a valve prosthesis, it is described to provide (12) a 2D image of an aortic root of a heart of a patient, wherein the 2D image comprises three cusps of the heart in a visible and distinct manner. Further, 2D positions of the three cusps are indicated (14) in the 2D image. An analytical 3D model of the aortic cusp locations is provided (16), and the 3D positions of the three cusps are computed (18) based on the 2D positions and the analytical 3D model. Still further, an optimal C-arm angulation is computed (20) based on the computed 3D positions of the cusps, wherein, in the optimal C-arm angulation, the three cusps are aligned in a 2D image. The optimal C-arm angulation is then provided for further image acquisition steps.

  • Publication number: 20180055462
Abstract: A method and device is proposed for automatic detection of an event in which a device is leaving a stable position relative to and within an anatomy. The method comprises the steps of receiving a sequence of fluoroscopic images, detecting a device in at least two of the fluoroscopic images, determining a motion field of the detected device in the sequence of fluoroscopic images, generating a sequence of integrated images by integrating the sequence of fluoroscopic images taking into consideration the motion field, determining a saliency metric based on the integrated images, identifying a landmark in the integrated images based on the saliency metric, and determining as to whether the landmark is moving relative to the device, based on a variation of the saliency metric.

  • Publication number: 20170345145
Abstract: An image processing method and related system to register projection images (AG, MI) only with respect to a motion of a landmark across said images. The motion of the landmark relates to a motion of a region of interest, ROI. The so registered images (AG, MI) are then subtracted from each other to arrive at a difference image that is locally motion compensated and that represents the ROI at good contrast whilst subtraction artifacts can be avoided.

  • Publication number: 20170262989
Abstract: (DSA) enables the vascular structure around a heart to be displayed using the injection of a contrast medium whilst the heart is being observed by an X-ray apparatus. The quality of a DSA sequence can be affected by the breathing of the patient, when under examination. This is because the images forming a DSA sequence are gathered using an X-ray modality, and therefore the independent movement of transparent tissues inside a patient causes motion artefacts to appear in DSA images. According to an aspect of the present invention, a method, device, X-ray system, computer program element, and a computer readable medium are provided which can correct artefacts appearing in DSA images which originate from to the motion of the heart and the motion caused by breathing in a patient.

  • Patent number: 9600885
Abstract: An image processing apparatus and method take as input a pre-op reference image (OP) and a stream (A) of angiographic images (A1-A3). Based on multiple pre-defined regions of interest (ROIa-c) in the pre-op reference image (PO), the angiographic image best showing when displayed a respective one of the regions of interest (ROIa-c) is detected from among the stream (A) of angiographic images (A1-A3). The detected angiographic image is associated with the region of interest to form an associative data structure (DS). A graphical user interface (GUI) is generated that allows based on the associative data structure (DS) to retrieve the associated angiography upon a user selecting any one of the regions of interest (ROIa-c) on the graphical user interface (GUI).
