  • Publication number: 20030080683
Abstract: A PDP having a novel cell structure that is superior in light emission efficiency is provided. A conductive film to be display electrodes X and Y is formed on side portions of a wall so that a main surface that contributes to discharge in the display electrode X is disposed so as to be opposed to a main surface of the neighboring display electrode Y via a gas space. A power supplying portion straddling plural cells in the display electrodes X and Y is provided on the upper surface of the wall. The display electrodes X and Y are covered with a dielectric layer that is thin at the side portion and thick at the top portion of the wall.

  • Publication number: 20030042854
Abstract: A plasma display panel for easy fabrication is provided with an improved black stripe structure. The structure eliminates the black stripes on a front substrate, leading to more freedom in material selection without suffering from the known problem of tarnishing of component members. Further, non-discharge spaces are provided in barrier ribs formed on a rear substrate and black material layers functioning as the black stripes are formed in cavities corresponding to the non-discharge spaces. Thus, this structure serves to form the black material layers in a sequential process which is similar to that for forming phosphor layers, thereby allowing the plasma display panel to have excellent contrast without complicating the structure and the fabrication process thereof.

  • Patent number: 6333142
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for forming barrier ribs of a plasma display panel. A master of barrier ribs for fabricating a mold for transferring barrier ribs is easily produced without the use of a machining technique. In the method for forming barrier ribs of a plasma display panel, a light-transmissive substrate having a predetermined pattern of a light-tight material formed on a surface and a photosensitive material layer bonded on the pattern is exposed to light from the rear surface of the light-transmissive substrate and developed so as to fabricate a master in which convex portions in a rib configuration are formed on the light-transmissive substrate. By using the master, a transfer mold for barrier ribs is fabricated. A rib material is filled in concave portions of the transfer mold and transferred onto a substrate for a PDP, thereby forming barrier ribs on the substrate for the PDP.

  • Publication number: 20010008825
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a panel assembly used to assemble a display panel intends to achieve an alignment-free between barrier ribs and a fluorescent layer and minimize the waste of a barrier rib material for cost reduction. On a support body 51 which is not a substrate, formed are a plurality of walls 281 through 283 made of a fluorescent material that are belt-shaped in plan view arranged in stripes, an electrode material layer a1, and a barrier rib material filling spaces between the walls. The support body 51 and a substrate 21 are coupled so that the barrier rib material faces the substrate. The walls 281 through 283, the electrode material layer a1 and the barrier rib material 291 are transferred in one step to the substrate 21, and thus a panel assembly 20 having barrier ribs 29, electrodes A and fluorescent layers 28R, 28G and 28B is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6140760
Abstract: A cathode device comprising a plurality of emitter tips having conical tip end portions to emit electrons therefrom. A gate electrode layer has an opening through which the tip end portion of each of the emitter tips is exposed. The diameter of the opening in the gate electrode layer is made smaller than that of the portion of the emitter tip at the juncture thereof with the substrate. In the fabrication of the cathode device, an oxide layer is formed at least on the surface of the formed emitter tip to sharpen the latter. By removing the oxide layer, an inner circumferential wall of the opening of the gate electrode layer is formed on the outside of the conical tip end portion of the emitter tip and extends approximately in parallel to the conical tip end portion of the emitter tip.

  • Patent number: 5572041
Abstract: A field emission cathode device comprising a semiconductor substrate, a semiconductor cathode electrode layer, emitter tips formed on the cathode electrode layer to emit electrons therefrom, and a gate electrode layer formed on an insulating layer. Each of the emitter tips is arranged in the aligned apertures of the gate electrode layer and the insulating layer. To electrically isolate two adjacent cathode electrode lines from each other, the cathode electrode layer is made of a semiconductor having a conductivity type different from that of the substrate. Alternatively, the cathode electrode is made of a semiconductor having the same conductivity type as that of the substrate, and in this case, a portion between two adjacent cathode electrode lines is made of a heavily doped semiconductor so as to electrically isolate two adjacent cathode electrodes.
