  • Publication number: 20220249037
Abstract: For position sensors, e.g., a fiber-based system, that build a shape of an elongated member, such as a catheter, using a sequence of small orientation measurements, a small error in orientation at the proximal end of the sensor will cause large error in position at distal points on the fiber. Exemplary methods and systems are disclosed, which may provide full or partial registration along the length of the sensor to reduce the influence of the measurement error. Additional examples are directed to applying selective filtering at a proximal end of the elongated member to provide a more stable base for distal measurements and thereby reducing the influence of measurement errors.

  • Publication number: 20220243683
Abstract: A rotary electric machine arranged as a brushless electric ring motor is described and includes a rotor that is disposed within a stator and arranged to rotate on a guide element. The rotor has a plurality of ferritic elements arranged on an outer surface, and the stator is an annular device having a plurality of electro-magnetic elements arranged on an inner portion between first and second flanges. The first and second flanges both include an annular ring that is fabricated from a non-magnetic material and has a plurality of ferromagnetic elements. The ferromagnetic elements are magnetically coupled to corresponding ones of the electro-magnetic elements to exert magnetic force on the ferritic elements of the rotor when the electro-magnetic elements are activated. The rotary electric machine may operate as a first thrust generating system that is upstream of a second thrust generating system for a turbojet engine.

  • Publication number: 20210081037
Abstract: A helmet-mounted tracker and boresighting system incorporated paired receivers on opposing sides of the helmet worn by the user (e.g., left/right, top/bottom) that receive a directional signal from directional transmitters placed at fixed locations throughout the target environment (e.g., a mobile platform, multilevel structure, or simulated environment). Each paired antenna generates an RF signal based on the received directional signal; the paired RF signals are summed to determine the current alignment of the helmet (and head) to the directional transmitter. Alignment information may be used to calibrate or correct inherent drift of the inertial measurement unit (IMU) of the helmet-mounted head tracker.
