  • Publication number: 20050272061
Abstract: The present invention relates to L genes and gene products that are differentially expressed in cancer tissues and cell lines. In a particular aspect of the invention, L genes and gene products are differentially expressed in lung cancer tissues and cell lines. In accordance with the present invention, L nucleic acid sequences, amino acid sequences and antibodies thereto, and methods of use thereof are presented. The L molecules and methods of the invention may be used to monitor expression levels of L genes, wherein the detection of aberrant levels of L molecules provides a positive diagnostic indicator of lung cancer and/or other L gene associated cancers and a useful prognostic indice of the state of such diseases. Also provided are compounds capable of modulating an L molecule mediated activity, which are identified using the L molecules and methods of the invention. Such L molecule modulating compounds may be used efficaciously to treat patients with lung cancer, or other L antigen positive cancers.

  • Publication number: 20050244929
Abstract: Methods for the high yield production of antibody Fv-containing polypeptides, especially Fab? and F(ab?)2 antibody fragments are provided. Expression of heavy and light chain Fv in a microbial secretory system is followed by recovery of Fv from the periplasm under conditions that maintain a cysteine residue as a free thiol. The free thiol is reacted with free thiol of an antibody fragment of the same or differing specificity, or with agents such as diagnostic labels or therapeutic moieties. The products offer advantages of homogeneity and purity not available through the use of known methods for preparing such derivatives.

  • Publication number: 20040231663
Abstract: A process for the preparation of white and brown sugar from raw diffuser beet juice. The juice is purified by membrane filtration at 70-95° C. on a filter having a molecular weight cut-off between 2,000 and 500,000 Dalton and evaporated to a dry matter content of between 60 and 80% by weight under vacuum to a thick juice. A conventional multi-step evaporative crystallisation of the thick juice gives crops of white and brown sugar crystals. The brown sugar obtained have valuable organoleptic properties.

  • Publication number: 20020120939
Abstract: A webcasting system and method for presenting multimedia content to viewers over the internet. The user (creator) of the webcast presentation is able to create and send the webcast to viewers using a simple, web-based process. The webcast includes a video presentation and slide presentation. Video and slide presentation files are automatically encoded and uploaded to a media server, without the user needing to understand file formats of the webcast content or how the files are to be compressed for efficient storage and transmission. The synchronization and editing of the video and slide presentations is made efficient by separately storing or buffering the slide file at the viewer's system before the video is streamed to the viewer's system. Slide files prepared in a structured storage format (PowerPoint) are automatically converted to JPG format in order to more efficiently transmit the presentation to the viewer.

  • Patent number: 5617320
Abstract: A low-cost solid state replacement circuit for an inertial platform with the resulting consequence of increased resolution, significantly reduced cost, and improved reliability and accuracy. The invention comprises no moving parts and permits the use of a strap-down angular rate sensor system which has a fixed orientation relative to an AGV on which the circuit is used. The invention creatively emulates encoder signals previously emanating from the inertial table through the use of a voltage controlled oscillator, a direction of turn determining circuit and an encoder emulator. Cabling which exists in current inertial tables does not need to be changed and information format previously used remains unchanged.

  • Patent number: 5309583
Abstract: A powered toilet seat used in association with a toilet bowl or throw-away waste receptacle and which may be used to assist a person in being raised and lowered relative to the toilet bowl. The present invention provides separate sets of mechanical linkages in order to provide the optimum motion for raising and lowering of the seat and for raising and lowering of the armrest. While the seat is constrained to both lift and move forward slightly while it is being rotated forwardly, the armrests follow a circular arc in which the armrests initially move predominately in the upward direction and complete the motion by moving predominately in a forward direction. In addition, the armrests are maintained in a horizontal orientation at all time.
