  • Publication number: 20150265994
Abstract: An array of membranes comprising amphipathic molecules is formed using an apparatus comprising a support defining an array of compartments. Volumes comprising polar medium are provided within respective compartments and a layer comprising apolar medium is provided extending across the openings with the volumes. Polar medium is flowed across the support to displace apolar medium and form a layer in contact with the volumes, forming membranes comprising amphipathic molecules at the interfaces. In one construction of the apparatus, the support that comprises partitions which comprise inner portions and outer portions. The inner portions define inner recesses without gaps therebetween that are capable of constraining the volumes comprising polar medium contained in neighbouring inner recesses from contacting each other. The outer portions extend outwardly from the inner portions and have gaps allowing the flow of an apolar medium across the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20150184426
Abstract: An over-travel mechanism configured to couple an input shaft and an output shaft in an exit device assembly. The input shaft is connected to an actuator that linearly displaces the input shaft, and the output shaft is connected to a locking member of the exit device. The over-travel mechanism includes a link coupled to the output shaft, and a preloaded elastic member transmits force between the input shaft and the link. Movement of the input shaft from a first input shaft position to a second input shaft position causes the elastic member to urge the link from a first link position toward a second link position. Movement of the input shaft from the second input shaft position to a third input shaft position causes the elastic member to elastically deform without moving the link from the second link position.

  • Publication number: 20150078269
Abstract: To reduce the number of subcarriers used for the transmission of reference symbols by base stations in an OFDM based cellular telecommunications network, the level of data for transmission from the base station to at least one subscriber station is determined and, when traffic levels are low and/or where the mobile station is unable to make efficient use of the full bandwidth, reference symbol data is transmitted from the base station using a number of the subcarriers less than the total number of subcarriers available. Thus the reference symbol frequency spread—the bandwidth between the lowest frequency subcarrier and the highest frequency subcarrier being used to transmit reference symbols—is made dependent upon the determined level of data for transmission.

  • Patent number: 8965291
Abstract: An example avionic data communication method includes establishing a plurality of available channels using a channel controller. The channel controller also establishes a quality of service for each of the plurality of available channels. The channel controller then selects one of the available channels. The quality of service of the selected channel is not less than the quality of service of another channel within the plurality of available channels. The method then communicates a type of data using the selected channel.
