Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are generally related to an alert mechanism. The alert mechanism is activated by the detection of one or more triggers, where the triggers can be categorized as time based and event based. Time-based triggers include timer based functions and scheduler based functions, while event-based triggers include internal alert functions and message based alert functions. Alerts are processed based on a priority scheme. Alerts take over the display area until dismissed by activation of one or more selectors by the user. Indicators may be included in a display screens to keep the user informed of ongoing changes in the alert status.

Abstract: The invention relates to an illumination system for illuminating display devices, comprising at least one light source, and a light guide for guiding light generated by the at least one light source in the direction of a display device. The invention also relates to a display device provided with such an illumination system.

Abstract: A speech signal is decoded by a vocoder and the reconstructed speech samples are provided to a decoded frame check unit. The decoded frame check unit examines the energy of the reconstructed speech and compares the energy of the reconstructed speech to a range of acceptable energy values. If the energy is not within the range of energy values, a frame erasure is declared and the decoded frame is prevented from being to the speaker in the telephone. In the exemplary implementation, the speech is reconstructed by a vocoder which includes a postfilter which in turn includes automatic gain control. The automatic gain control element of a post filter includes a means for measuring the energy of the decoded speech data. This measured energy is used by the decoded frame check unit to decide whether to provide the decoded data to the user or to declare a frame erasure. This implementation reduces the amount of additional hardware necessary to implement the present invention.

Abstract: Described is a process for making closed cell fluoropolymer foam, and the foam so made. The process includes subjecting a fluoropolymer resin an inert gas at a pressure higher than atmospheric to drive gas into the resin, raising the temperature of the resin to or above its softening point, and reducing the pressure while maintaining the temperature at or above the softening point of the resin, in order to expand the resin to result in closed cell fluoropolymer foam. The resin is cross-linked prior to expansion. The resulting foams can be used in various applications, such as in flotation devices and for making thermal and/or acoustic insulation.

Abstract: A telecommunications device and/or service enable a user to establish and maintain a profile which is then associated with the user or the user's telecommunication device (the “calling device”). The profile is stored on a profile server that is in communication with the telecommunications service provider. A receiving device receives a call from the calling device and is provided with the profile during call set-up. Some or all of the profile is used in connection with the incoming call on the receiving device.

Abstract: A telecommunications device and/or service are provided that enable a user to identify a particular call announcement to be used when announcing an incoming call from the user on the call recipient's telecommunications device. The call from the user includes call data that identifies the particular call announcement. When received, the recipient's device processes the incoming call and announces it with the requested announcement.

Abstract: The present invention relates to codon optimised polynucleotides which are efficiently expressed in mammalian cells and encode insect proteins from Dermaphagoides dust mite. In particular, the optimised codon polynucleotides encode a protein from Dermaphagoides pteronyssinus, such as DerP1 or proDerP1. The present invention also provides methods of preparing pharmaceutical compositions comprising the expression of the codon optimised polynucleotides, and vectors and transformed host cells comprising them.

Abstract: A wireless communications device is provided. The wireless communications device, pre-loaded with static objects, may be operated under user direction to wirelessly download and install dynamic objects. The device includes various initiators, which request execution of an object by submitting a unique target identifier to an object manager, whereupon the object manager identifies the requested object, its entry point, and object class and then activates the requested object accordingly. The wireless communications device may activate dynamic objects, when present, to the exclusion of static objects already resident on the device, thus enabling the updating of the static objects via a dynamic object download.

Abstract: A telecommunications system includes an infosphere having a mobile telephone. A first telecommunications device may request to be added to the infosphere by sending a request to a registry server. In response to the request, the registry server adds the first telecommunications device to the infosphere by creating a network address for the first telecommunications device, the network address being related to the telephone number of the mobile telephone. In some embodiments of the telecommunications system, the registry server may require authorization from a second telecommunications device in the infosphere before adding the first telecommunications device to the infosphere.

Abstract: The present invention pertains to a method and an apparatus to generate a density image of an object using fan or cone beams of radiation and collimated detectors on one side of the object. The method consists of irradiating an object with a plurality of pairs of non-parallel radiation beams wherein the beams in each pair intersect a same segment along the axis of the detector. Compton-scattering radiation from the beams are then measured, and corrected attenuation coefficients along each beam are obtained. This latter step is effected by taking a first ratio of detector measurements for the beams in each pair; comparing the first ratio with a second ratio of corresponding calculated detector measurements and balancing discrepancies between the first and second ratios in a forward-inverse numerical analysis algorithm. Taking ratios of attenuation coefficients along related incident beams eliminates non-linearity problems whereby the aforesaid algorithm can be solved.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for content based notification using hierarchical groups. In an aspect, a method is provided that operates to provide an event notification. The method includes maintaining an event description dictionary comprising one or more event descriptors, and associating content with a selected event descriptor. The method also includes compressing the selected event descriptor to generate a compressed event descriptor, and transmitting the compressed event descriptor on a notification channel.

Abstract: A method, according to the present invention provides for sterilizing an interior of a lumen of an article. The method comprises the steps of: contacting the interior of the lumen with a liquid comprising hydrogen peroxide; heating the article; and exposing the article to sub-atmosphere pressure sufficient to vaporize the hydrogen peroxide within the lumen and for a time period sufficient to effect sterilization of the interior of the lumen. Preferably, the liquid comprises a condensed vapor.
