  • Publication number: 20210337506
Abstract: A radio network node (12) in a radio access network (RAN1) and a method therein for Paging Policy Differentiation (PPD). The radio network node receives from a core network (CN1) a Downlink (DL) Protocol Data Unit (PDU) associated with a wireless device (10). The DL PDU is comprised in a Quality of Service (QoS)-flow, is originated from a respective service and comprises a Paging Policy Indicator (PPI) associated with the respective service. The radio network node extracts the PPI by means of a Central Unit User Plane (CU-UP) (12b). By means of the CU-UP (12b), the radio network node informs a Central Unit Control Plane (CU-CP) (12a) about the PPI. Further, by means of the CU-CP, the radio network node triggers paging of the wireless device. Furthermore, the radio network node pages the wireless device (10) according to the PPI associated with the respective service.

Abstract: Embodiments include methods for notifying of changes to an access network's (AN) compliance with a QoS requirement for a data flow between an application server and an application associated with a user equipment served by the AN. Such embodiments include receiving, from a core network (CN), a first safeguard time associated with the QoS requirement and representing an amount of time required, prior to AN non-compliance with the QoS requirement, to adapt the application for safe operation during the AN non-compliance. Embodiments also include determining that, at approximately a first instance in the future, the AN is likely to be non-compliant with the QoS requirement; and sending, to the CN, a first notification indicating a likelihood of future AN non-compliance with the QoS requirement. The first notification is sent at least the first safeguard time before the first instance. Embodiments include complementary methods performed by CNs and application servers.

  • Patent number: 11102842
Abstract: A wireless device, a network node, a core node and methods therein, for managing reachability of the wireless device. The wireless device starts an AS (Access Stratum) reachable timer when entering an inactive state. If the AS reachable timer expires while still in the inactive state, the wireless device sends to the network node a reachable notification indicating that the wireless device is reachable. If entering a connected state before the AS reachable timer expires, the wireless device stops the AS reachable timer when changing from the inactive state to a connected state. If the core node receives from the network node a not reachable notification indicating that the wireless device is not reachable, the wireless device can be marked as not reachable via paging.

  • Patent number: 11064457
Abstract: According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of paging policy differentiation in a 5G telecommunications network is provided. A User Plane Function (UPF) receives downlink data for a target User Equipment (UE), and provides a data notification to a Session Management Function (SMF), the data notification comprising a Quality of Service (QoS) indicator, which the SMF uses to determine QoS Information (QoSI) that is sent to an Access Management Function (AMF). The AMF determines whether a paging policy selection should be performed by the AMF or by a Radio Access Node (RAN) that serves the target UE: if by the AMF, the AMF selects a paging policy based on the QoSI and sends a paging message to the RAN, which pages the UE; if by the RAN, the AMF provides paging policy information to the RAN, which selects a paging policy and pages the UE accordingly.
