  • Patent number: 8491076
Abstract: A method for driving a droplet ejection device having an actuator, including applying a primary drive pulse to the actuator to cause the droplet ejection device to eject a droplet of fluid in a jetting direction, and applying one or more secondary drive pulses to the actuator which reduce a length of the droplet in the jetting direction without substantially changing a volume of the droplet.

  • Patent number: 8494488
Abstract: A system, method and device for managing requests for services by a communication device in a communication network are provided. The method comprises: receiving a request for a service provided through the communication network; determining whether an account associated with the device has all features required to access the service; when the all features are not provided by the account displaying a first message on a display of the device indicating that access to the service is denied for the device, identifying alternative accounts for the network, displaying a second message on the display listing the alternative accounts and when a selection is provided of a selected account from the alternative accounts, sending a request to an account manager to update the account to the selected account for the device; and when the selected account is activated for the device providing access to the service.

  • Patent number: 8490668
Abstract: A retractable barrier system includes an example gear assembly that can be manipulated for rapidly deploying a flexible barrier, exerting high torque for the initial tightening of the barrier, maintaining high static tension in barrier when in use, and/or rapidly retracting barrier for storage. In some examples, the gear assembly is a worm drive with a worm that can be selectively disengaged from a worm gear. Other optional features of the barrier system include selective right-hand/left-hand configurations, an electric switch that can be added to indicate whether the barrier system is in use, an intermediate coupling that joins the distal ends of two barriers for creating an extra long barrier system, and removable vehicle-mounted posts for certain loading dock applications.

  • Patent number: 8495744
Abstract: A method and a system for evaluation of risk of conflict between a number of integrating security solutions. In a computer system, a number of fragmentary security solutions are received. A set of the received fragmentary security solutions is integrated to form a composite security solution to satisfy a number of security requirements. In one aspect, the security requirements are established during a design of a computer system. A risk of conflict between the set of integrating fragmentary security solutions is evaluated. In another aspect, the risk of conflict between the set of integrating fragmentary security solutions exists at authority level and at configuration level. Conflict at authority level arises when different authorities control the same fragmentary security solution. Conflict at configuration level arises when integrating fragmentary security solutions share configuration data.

  • Patent number: 8494184
Abstract: An electro-acoustic transducer or a device into which an electro-acoustic transducer is incorporated has at least two audio signal conductors through which the electro-acoustic transducer or device may be coupled to another device to convey analog audio signals representing sounds at a time when the other device places a relatively low DC bias voltage across the at least two audio signal conductors, and to be operated as a digital serial bus to exchange pieces of digitally-encoded data concerning the electro-acoustic transducer at a time when the other device places a relatively high DC bias voltage across the at least two audio signal conductors.

  • Patent number: 8495147
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and systems for automatically threading multiple media into a single document. More specifically, a single conversation may be distributed among a number of different contacts and replies to those contacts. The distributed contacts and the corresponding replies may be chronologically ordered and analyzed. Then the repetitive portions of the documents and replies are removed. After repetitive portions of the conversation have been removed, the multiple documents are threaded together as a single representation of the conversation.

  • Patent number: 8495050
Abstract: A computer-implemented process for identifying universal resource locator rewriting rules may receive input of universal resource locators of an application, to form received universal resource locators, may represent the received universal resource locators in a specialized graph and may apply analysis algorithms and heuristics to properties of the specialized graph. The computer-implemented process may further identify universal resource locator rewriting patterns using the specialized graph to form detected patterns and may generate rewrite rules corresponding to the detected patterns.

  • Patent number: 8491491
Abstract: Inhalation measurement systems and methods enable, during inhalant exposure, substantially real-time respiratory measurements of a test subject using techniques that obtain measurements of respiration directly from that test subject, instead of from inhalation chamber parameter measurements. Direct test subject respiratory measurements may be, by way of example only, impedance measurements. These respiratory measurements taken directly from the test subject may be transmitted, wirelessly for example, for processing during the course of the test to a processing system to determine a cumulative volume of inhalant inspired by the test subject. From that, a cumulative amount of inhalant (or dose) inspired by the test subject may be determined during the course of the inhalation compound test.

  • Patent number: 8494947
Abstract: A computer network and method for electronically trading combinations of derivatives. One preferred method of trading includes providing quotes information to a central server, and determining indicative quotes for combination trades, and providing the non-binding, indicative quotes to market participants (which typically includes subscribers, but may also include market makers). A participant may then submit an e-RFQ, which is a request for a binding quote for the combination of derivatives. Market Makers may then elect to submit a binding quote for the corresponding derivative combination. Market participants may then elect to enter a binding order.

  • Patent number: 8495512
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method that defines a user interface (UI) that displays several UI elements representing several virtual machines deployed in a particular configuration for a particular user in a hosting and storage system that includes several nodes for hosting user specified virtual machines. The method receives input from the user through the UI to save the particular configuration of virtual machines. For each virtual machine in the particular configuration, the method stores an image of the virtual machine. The method stores data representing the particular configuration of virtual machines. The data includes references to the stored images of the virtual machines and connections between the virtual machines.

  • Patent number: 8493862
Abstract: Devices and techniques for overcoming lost packets and avoiding congestion when conducting media conferences over packet switched networks are described herein. To avoid the problem of lost packets, redundant information is inserted into the media stream that permits the receiver to reconstruct any lost packets from the redundant information. Congestion avoidance techniques include adjusting the bitrate of the media stream to find the highest bitrate that can be supported without packet loss due to congestion. When increasing the bitrate to a higher rate, the additional bits can come from the redundant information used for lost packet recovery so that any lost packets caused by network congestion will not adversely affect the bitstream.

  • Patent number: 8490288
Abstract: A locking mechanism for a folding knife. The locking mechanism has a locking sleeve and an opposed locking bolt which are coaxial and biased to a locking position by a spring. In the locked position, either with the blade extended or folded, both a lug on the bolt and a surface on the sleeve engage a locking surface on the blade tang area. Simultaneous manual force must be applied by the user to oppositely release buttons on the opposite handles to move both the locking bolt and locking sleeve to positions to disengage them from the locking surface to allow the blade to be folded or unfolded.
