  • Patent number: 8494363
Abstract: Signal format conversion apparatus and methods involve converting data signals between a first signal format associated with a first reference clock rate and a second signal format that is different from the first signal format and is associated with a second reference clock rate different from the first reference clock rate. A period of the second signal format is changed to match a period of a third signal format by controlling a synchronized second reference clock rate that is applied in converting data signals between the first signal format and the second signal format. The synchronized second reference clock rate is different from the second reference clock rate and is synchronized with a third reference clock rate. The third reference clock rate is associated with the third signal format. Such synchronization simplifies conversion of signals between the second and third signal formats.

  • Patent number: 8495534
Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for reworking a plurality of cells initially placed in a circuit design. An expander allocates cells to tiles. The expander determines a high detailed routing cost tile class, wherein the high detailed routing cost tile class is a class of tiles that has high detailed routing costs. The expander selects a cell within a tile of the high detailed routing cost tile class to form a selected cell in a selected tile. The expander applies multiple techniques to reposition these cells at new locations to improve the detailed routability. The expander can place an expanded bounding box around the selected cell, wherein the bounding box extends to at least one tile adjacent the selected tile, and repositions the selected cell within the bounding box to form a modified design to improve the detailed routability. The expander may also inflate and legalize those cells.

  • Patent number: 8490906
Abstract: A food ricer including a hopper, a first plate having a first pattern of apertures defining a bottom of the hopper, and a second plate having a second pattern of apertures rotatably coupled to the bottom of the hopper. The second plate is preferably rotatable with respect to the first plate. The first and second patterns of apertures being eccentric or non-concentric with respect to each other to allow for the geometric orientation of one pattern of apertures to be quartered, bifurcated, and aligned with respect to the other pattern of apertures for achieving varying degrees of coarseness upon rotation of the second plate with respect to the first plate.

  • Patent number: 8495127
Abstract: Improving scalability and throughput in publish/subscribe messaging systems by allowing the spoke systems to vary the member of the hub collective that it attaches to. The scalability is improved because the spoke systems do not have to have a long lasting attachment to a specific hub system. Instead, the spoke systems can be redistributed more evenly when new spoke systems are added or removed. The throughput is increased by distributing workload and fan-out responsibilities within hub collectives. Availability is improved because single points of failure are removed. Ease of administration is also improved over a hierarchy by allowing child nodes to automatically change parent nodes if a parent node is modified or removed.

  • Patent number: 8490322
Abstract: An animal trap has a base, an upper jaw pivotally coupled with the base so that it is movable between a closed position and an open position, and a set arm that is pivotally coupled with the upper jaw and moveable between a collapsed position and an open position. In its open position, the set arm provides a lever whereby application of a force to the set arm moves the upper jaw toward its open position. A method for trapping an animal includes moving a trap between a first position, where the upper jaw is closed, and the set arm is collapsed, and a second position, where the upper jaw is closed and the set arm is open. The method further includes the step of moving the trap between a second position and a third position in which the upper jaw is open, and the set arm is open.

  • Patent number: 8495490
Abstract: Systems and methods of summarizing documents for archival, retrieval, and analysis can be used to provide a convenient summary of the content of scanned document(s). After scanning a document or set of documents, character recognition software identifies the text on the pages. Software can produce a summary of the subjects/themes/keywords in the document(s). This summary can take several forms; e.g. an index of subjects/themes/keywords which can then be printed out as a cover sheet for that stack of documents. Alternately, the summary can be in the form of a topic cloud or histogram. The topic cloud can be made dynamic to allow a user to progressively scroll through pages of documents and watch the topic cloud evolve. The histogram can be made searchable to allow the user to view content of selected pages easily and conveniently.

  • Patent number: 8495587
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and a computer program product are disclosed for selectively activating a trace function in a computer program in response to a call of a predetermined trigger code element so that trace data is produced only for those subroutines that call the trigger code element or are called by the trigger code element. The computer program product provides one or more trace code elements for one or more selected subroutines of the computer program stored on internal memory of a digital computer. The trace code elements provide trace data for said selected subroutines. The computer program product also selects a subroutine as a trigger code element, processes the computer program, monitors the call stack for the trigger code element, and enables the trace code elements for each selected subroutine simultaneously present in the call stack if the trigger code element is identified in the call stack.

  • Patent number: 8492648
Abstract: A tape can comprise a dielectric film that has a pattern of electrically conductive areas adhering thereto. The conductive areas can be electrically isolated from one another. The tape can utilize means to obscure the metallic finish and can contain indicators to deter installers from grounding the tape at either end. The tape can be wrapped around one or more conductors, such as wires that transmit data, to provide electrical or electromagnetic shielding for the conductors. The resulting cable can have a shield that is electrically discontinuous between opposite ends of the cable.
