  • Patent number: 6493625
Abstract: A method for controlling the speed of a motor vehicle and the distance of a motor vehicle to at least one motor vehicle driving ahead includes the steps of: inputting a setpoint trailing distance to the motor vehicle driving ahead; determining, in accordance with at least one detector, at least the speed of the motor vehicle, the distance, and the speed relative to the motor vehicle driving ahead; decelerating or accelerating the motor vehicle in response to the detected distance deviating from the setpoint trailing distance; calculating, in response to the motor vehicle driving ahead being lost from the detection range of the detector (target loss), the speed of the motor vehicle driving ahead from the relative speed determined prior to losing the target; and calculating the actual distance from the driving speed of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6393376
Abstract: A curve radius of a roadway is determined by measuring the difference in wheel speed of at least two vehicle wheels and the rate of yaw of the vehicle, and hence the curve radius, is determined therefrom. The wheel speeds are determined by measuring the time required for the wheel to rotate by a fixed rotational angle, based on a fixed number of pulses produced by a pulse transmitter which is part of an ABS or ASR system for the vehicle. The method provides considerably improved accuracy using simple, vehicle-contained components and various parameters can be taken into account simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 6353788
Abstract: A method and device for regulating speed and/or distance of a first vehicle to at least one other vehicle driving ahead of the first vehicle in connection with a passing maneuver. The method or device provides a detection system associated with the first vehicle which continuously detects the vehicle directly in front and the position of the turn signal lights, as well as the yaw rate and/or steering position of the first vehicle. The method or device of the present invention further provides an evaluation unit which continuously ascertains setpoint value data for regulating the speed of the first vehicle and its distance to the at least one other vehicle directly in front from this data.

  • Patent number: 6166628
Abstract: A motor vehicle object-detecting arrangement includes a distance controller having a distance-sensing device for emitting and receiving object-reflected measuring beams in different directions and having an evaluation unit. The measuring beams received by the distance-sensing device are appraised as a function of the geometry of the road on which the vehicle is being driven. For this purpose an appraisal device receives information from the distance sensing device and from a transmitter unit which supplies information on the road geometry of the road. The appraisal device appraises the measuring beams reflected from different directions as a function of the information on the road geometry.

  • Patent number: 5977869
Abstract: In the motor vehicle speed control arrangement, the distance to an object detected in front of the motor vehicle is detected by a distance sensor and supplied to a control unit which forms one or more manipulated variables for setting the driving speed of the motor vehicle as a function of at least a desired distance to the detected object which is determined at least from the instantaneous driving speed and/or a prescribed desired speed. In order to improve the comfort performance of the speed control, the arrangement provides that, in the event of a loss of detection of the object by the distance sensor, the control unit determines the reason for the loss of detection of the object and forms the manipulated variables for setting the driving speed as a function of the reason for the loss of detection.
