  • Patent number: 5265181
Abstract: An optical fiber connector assembly (10) comprises an insulating housing (100) formed from two complementary upper cover (101) and lower base (102) suitably locked together to form the hollow housing (100). Within the housing (100) is formed at least one ferrule-receiving trough (103) adapted to receive a ferrule (400) for securing an optical fiber cable to the housing (100). Formed in the housing (100) is a passageway (105) for receiving a hollow retention bolt (200) through which the optical fiber cable enters the housing (100). A multi-faceted mode-marking key element (300) is provided independently nested with an interference fit in an appropriate recess, i.e. cavities (104, 104'), within the housing (100) between the cover (101) and the base (102). The key element (300) is of a parallelepiped form having four different structural surfaces (A, B, M, S) which surround a horizontal axis which is perpendicular to the rest two side surfaces (301).

  • Patent number: 5073070
Abstract: A panel fastener having a bolt and a floating grommet assembly which assembly includes a grommet fixedly mounted in a hole in a panel and a spacer spaced from the grommet and swaged thereagainst and also against the bolt of the panel fastener. In this matter, the bolt may be held away from the panel, then pushed inwardly into the hole in the panel. The spacing between the grommet and the spacer allows for play between the bolt and the panel to compensate for misalignment between the bolt of the panel fastener and the receptacle to which it is to be fastened.

  • Patent number: 5037259
Abstract: A nut having an enlarged head, one end disposed in a countersunk opening in one side of the panel, which head may be configured for anti-rotation, and either an integral threaded portion or internal floating threaded insert at the other end extending through the panel. A sleeve is locked to the body of the nut retaining the same to the underside of the panel and allowing for variation in panel thickness. The nut threadably engages a threaded member that may be mounted in a panel.

  • Patent number: 4948316
Abstract: A fastener assembly for joining a panel to a sub-panel comprising a receptacle assembly having a threaded stud secured to the undersurface of the sub-panel. The assembly includes a bolt having an enlarged head at one end and a nose at the other end. The panel has a countersunk opening aligned with an opening in the sub-panel. The bolt is threaded for threaded engagement to the stud. The body of the bolt includes a plurality of spaced grooves extending longitudinally along the outer surface of the bolt body. A retainer surrounds the bolt body having spaced ears riding in the grooves and a stop ring in a groove adjacent the nose of the bolt stops the downward movement of the retainer. In this manner, the bolt may be disposed in the countersunk opening in the panel with the retainer on the blind side of the panel and the stop ring preventing movement of the retainer off of the bolt body thus retaining the bolt to the panel.

  • Patent number: 4887875
Abstract: A fiber optic connector is provided for use in temporary repair of broken fiber optic cables. The connector comprises a ceramic plug having a front end and a rear end and a passageway extending through the plug with the passageway sized to snugly receive a buffer stripped optical fiber therethrough in a manner such that the fiber extends out the front end of the plug. The passageway has a size proximate the rear end thereof to permit a portion of buffer covered optical fiber to received therein and thus serves, at the narrow portion of the passageway, as a stop limiting the amount of forward movement of the fiber. A plug support serves to support the rear end of the ceramic plug and includes a passageway coextensive with the plug passageway.

  • Patent number: 4728171
Abstract: The invention relates to a system for field restoration of severed fiber optic cables containing multiple optical fiber conductors therein. The system includes two hermetically sealable restoration connector containers having lids to permit access to the interior thereof. The containers are interconnected by at least one fiber optic cable containing multiple optical fibers extending therein with each fiber of the cable terminated by respective fiber optic connectors which are mounted on adapters in a panel in the respective containers for interconnection to temporary connectors used in field restoration. A plurality of temporary connectors are arranged within the respective containers and each container includes a hermetically sealable opening for passing a severed cable with the fiber ends extending therefrom into the container or by the individual fibers can be rapidly terminated by the temporary connectors and the ends projecting from the temporary connectors flush cleave with the end face thereof.
