  • Patent number: 8798286
Abstract: A method includes receiving input from a remote control device at a set-top box device. The input identifies media content that includes audio content and video content. The input also indicates that the audio content is to be output via an audio output device coupled to the set-top box device without sending the video output from the set-top box device to an external display device coupled to the set-top box device. The method includes determining whether the media content is stored at a local memory device of the set-top box device. When the media content is stored at the local memory device, the method includes retrieving the media content from the local memory, sending a first audio signal corresponding to the audio content of the media content to the audio output device and blocking output of the video content to the external display device.

  • Publication number: 20140207734
Abstract: Data synchronization management methods and systems for use in an electronic device are provided. First, activity log containing information regarding activities of friends of a user in an application within a specific period of time is acquired from a network application server via a network. Next, the activity log is analyzed to determine a frequency of activities of the application in each of time segments of a day. A sync frequency of a data sync procedure for each of the time segments is determined or adjusted according to the frequency of activities of the application in each of the time segments. The data sync procedure is performed with the network application server to update data from the server based on the sync frequency in each of the time segments.

  • Patent number: 8737825
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a video recording device for capturing a video clip. The video recording device receives a selection of a non-temporally compressed encoding scheme from several different encoding schemes for encoding the video clip. The different encoding schemes include at least one temporally compressed encoding scheme and at least the selected non-temporally compressed encoding scheme. The video recording device captures the video clip as several frames. The video recording device non-temporally encodes each of the frames as several slices. • Patent number: 8426253
Abstract: An integrated circuit device includes a die, a lead, and an electrically-conductive structure that is arranged to facilitate electrical communication between the die and the lead. The device also includes a potting material, in which the electrically conductive structure, the die, and at least part of the lead are embedded. An electrically-conductive housing encases the potting material and forms exterior packaging of the device. During manufacturing, the electrically-conductive structure, the die, and at least part of the lead may be arranged within the electrically-conductive housing either before or after the potting material is disposed in the housing. When the integrated circuit device is operating, heat is removable from the die via a thermal conduction path formed by the electrically-conductive structure, the potting material, and the electrically-conductive housing.

  • Patent number: 8396120
Abstract: An encoding manager facilitates robust single-pass variable bit rate video encoding of a video sequence. Before encoding the video sequence, the encoding manager determines the size of a buffer to use for keeping track of over/under used bits generated during encoding. The encoding manager uses the target bit rate for the video sequence and the length of the video sequence to determine the size of the buffer. After allocating bits to a frame of the sequence, the encoding manager determines the quant to use to encode that frame. The determination of a quant to use to encode a frame is informed by the fullness of the buffer. The encoding manager adjusts the quant to use (and thus the aggressiveness of its encoding) in response to the amount of overflow generated thus far by the encoding of the video sequence.

  • Publication number: 20130040693
Abstract: A mobile communication device is provided with a plurality of processing logic units. A first processing logic unit is configured to connect the mobile communication device to a first wireless network for wireless transceiving via a first link. A second processing logic unit is configured to determine whether a second link to a second wireless network is available in response to detecting a low performance condition of the first link. Particularly, the first wireless network and the second wireless network are heterogeneous networks. A third processing logic unit is configured to hand over the mobile communication device from the first wireless network to the second wireless network in response to a transceiving rate of the second link being greater than a first value.

  • Publication number: 20120210232
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method that receives the addition of a video clip to a composite video project. The video clip has a sequence of video images at a first frame rate and the composite video project has a second frame rate for outputting video images. When the first frame rate does not match the second frame rate but is within a threshold of the second frame rate, the method generates output video images for a particular duration of the composite video project at the second frame rate by using each of the video images of the video clip once during the particular duration. When the first frame rate is not within the threshold, generating output video images for the particular duration of the composite video project at the second frame rate by using at least one of the video images for each output video image over the particular duration.

  • Publication number: 20120207452
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method that receives the addition of a video clip having a first set of spatial properties to a composite video project having a second set of spatial properties. When the first set of spatial properties and the second set of spatial properties are different, the method automatically applies a spatial conform effect to the video clip to conform images of the video clip to the second set of spatial properties. The method receives input to transform images of the video clip as displayed in the composite video project. The method stores the spatial conform effect and the received transform as separate effects for the video clip.
