  • Patent number: 7589890
Abstract: A thermal nonlinear cell and method. The cell includes a substantially planar nonlinear medium and a mechanism for removing thermal energy from the medium in a direction substantially orthogonal to said medium. In one embodiment, the mechanism for removing thermal energy is a thermally conductive window mounted adjacent to the medium. Preferably, the mechanism includes plural thermally conductive windows between which the nonlinear medium is disposed. In the best mode, the windows are sapphire and the nonlinear medium is a fluid. The windows and the medium are transmissive with respect to first and second beams that interfere with each other and create an interference pattern in the cell. The interference pattern is sampled by a sampling hologram created within the multiple layers of the medium. The interference pattern is used via a sampling hologram to create a phase conjugate of a signal beam. The windows move thermal energy from the medium in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the medium.

  • Patent number: 7549748
Abstract: A slit lamp includes a rest for receiving a patient's face such as the patient's forehead. The slit lamp further includes an optical portion for observing the patient's eye. A fixation light is positioned near the optical portion to direct the patient's view toward the optical portion. A sensor secures to the rest and detects proximity of the user's face to the rest. The output of the sensor controls the fixation light such that the fixation light is turned on upon detecting the positioning of the user's face at the rest. In one embodiment, a shield secures to the optical portion and first and second fixation lights secure to the shield at either side of the optical portion. First and second flanges secure to the shield proximate the fixation lights and such that each fixation light is only viewable when directly in front of the patient's eye.

  • Patent number: 7485694
Abstract: Polycarbonate is prepared by reactive extrusion on a reactive extruder. A method incorporates the steps of introducing a polycarbonate oligomer, an activated carbonate residue, and a transesterification catalyst to the extruder through a feed section. The extruder has the feed section, a polycarbonate exit section, and a reaction section between the feed section and the polycarbonate exit section. The reaction section is made up of at least one conveying section, kneading sections, and venting sections. The configuration of the reaction section requires that at least one venting section be disposed between each pair of kneading sections, and that the kneading sections and venting sections are selected such that the number of venting sections minus the number of kneading sections is greater than or equal to one. The method further contains the step of extruding the reaction components at a temperature in a range between 100° C. and 500° C.

  • Publication number: 20080195388
Abstract: Context-based word prediction is provided. A software application utilizes words contained in an application document to provide context-based word prediction in the same or a related document. The software application creates an application defined data source and populates the data source with words occurring in a document. When the same or a related document is being edited via an input method, for example, typing, speech recognition, electronic handwriting, etc., a prediction engine presents candidate words from the application defined data source that match current text input, and the user may choose from the presented candidate words for automatic population into the document being edited. Information from the application defined data source may be transferred between computing devices, for example, between a mobile computing device and a desktop (non-mobile) computing device.

  • Publication number: 20080125069
Abstract: Radio devices (31 to 43) receive a prescribed number of Hello packets from each of n radio devices existing within one hop from each radio device, detects six pairs of maximum and minimum values MAX[1] and MIN[1] to MAX[6] and MIN[6] based on the plurality of reception signal strengths of the plurality of received Hello packets, detects two adjacent maximum values having the largest difference among six pairs of maximum and minimum values D_MAX[1] and D_MIN[1] to D_MAX[6] and D_MIN[6] when the six maximum values MAX[1] to MAX[6] are in descending order, and determines the average of two minimum values corresponding to the detected two maximum values as a threshold. The radio devices (31 to 43) each produce a routing table including routes having reception signal strengths equal to or more than the threshold.
