  • Patent number: 8085715
Abstract: A mobile telecommunications network includes a radio access network comprising base stations and one or more additional access points. An access point is connected to a network core by an IP transport broadband connection. The access point is configured to appear to the mobile terminal as a conventional base station—that is, for example, it communicates with the mobile terminal using GSM or UMTS transport protocols and does not require any modification to a standard GSM or UMTS mobile terminal. Access Points may not be under the direct control of the network provider, and so are more susceptible to security threats. The described system allows the network provider to verify that the access point through which a mobile terminal is about to communicate is a legitimate and trusted base station and/or is at a particular location. Differential charging may be performed in dependence upon a subscriber's location.

  • Publication number: 20110033432
Abstract: Compositions are provided that improve overall plant vigor and yield by combining agriculturally effective amounts of at least one environmentally friendly biological control agent and at least one chemical insect control agent. A composition of the present invention is particularly effective in the presence of fungal species. Use of a composition of the present invention leads to an overall reduction in crop losses caused by fungi and this reduction is much greater than would have been expected from application of either component alone. Methods for utilizing compositions of the present invention are also provided. Further the compositions according to this invention display a synergistic insecticidal, nematicidal, acaricidal or fungicidal activity.

  • Publication number: 20100294661
Abstract: A method for improving the performance of a galvanic fuel cell type oxygen sensor comprises providing a pressure equalization port leading to the interior of an inner core housing that contains the membrane, the electrolyte and the anode and cathode electrodes and hermetically sealing the sensor housing except for its sample inlet port and its sample outlet port. By connecting the same vacuum source to both the pressure equalization port and the sample outlet port, the device's membrane is less subject to movement or rupture as gas samples are drawn in via the sample inlet port. A technique for ensuring a hermetic seal is also described.

  • Patent number: 7805975
Abstract: A method of calibrating a metabolic analyzer incorporating an oxygen analyzer and a NDIR carbon dioxide analyzer in the field that does not require the use of gas cylinders containing gases of known concentration is described. In calibrating the CO2 detector, at the time of factory setup, the detector output for a gas of a known concentration is measured and stored in the memory of the metabolic analyzer's microprocessor, as is the detector output voltage when the IR source is dimmed by a known percentage. Subsequently, in the field, CO2 levels in ambient air and cell pressure are measured at two different flow rates through the sample chamber and the IR source is again dimmed by the same percentage as had been used at the time of factory setup. Based upon the resulting readings, both the zeroing and span adjustment factors can be computed.

  • Publication number: 20100203864
Abstract: In a telecommunications system including a plurality of different networks, terminals and smart cards, each terminal is usable in a particular network in association with one of the smart cards when that smart card is registered with that network. Each smart card carries secret information specific to its registered home network and with which the network can authenticate the smart card and allow use of the terminal with which that smart card is associated. Each smart card may be registered with one of the networks as its home network, selectively de-registered from its home network, and re-registered with a different one of the networks as its home network by obtaining data including an International Mobile Subscriber Identifier for use with that network. The Identifier is transmitted to the smart card, and the secret information relating to a particular network activated when registering or re-registering the smart card with that network.

  • Publication number: 20100190497
Abstract: A method of controlling an attach procedure of a device 1 to a telecommunications network 140 following receipt of an attach rejection from the telecommunications network, the method including assessing the authenticity of the attach rejection, and selecting a criterion for performing a subsequent attach attempt by the device to the network in dependence upon the authenticity assessment. The authenticity may be assessed by determining whether the rejection was received by an authenticated communication link or a signed message. The authenticity may also be assessed by checking that the cause of the reject is consistent with information held by the device. The selected criterion may be power cycling of the device or the passage of a time period.

  • Publication number: 20100056976
Abstract: In renal haemodialysis there is a condition whereby the patient can by at serious risk of harm if the venous line becomes disconnected or the venous needle becomes dislodged and the haemodialysis machine does not detect this condition. The invented device is designed to safeguard haemodialysis patients from serious losses of blood through venous line disconnection or venous needle dislodgement. The invented device is designed to clamp the venous line automatically before venous needle dislodgement or venous line disconnection becomes a serious problem and to make the haemodialysis machine stop drawing blood from the patient This will cause the haemodialysis machine to alarm in the normal way so as to alert the patient or healthcare worker to the problem. The invented device will have to be manually reset before therapy can continue.

  • Publication number: 20090149194
Abstract: In a telecommunications network a technique of identifying unauthorised movement of an Access Point, also often described as a micro base station or a femto-cell, uses a velocity check to determine if the Access Point has been moved from its intended location to a remote, unauthorised location. In an embodiment, the system described herein determines the cell ID of the cell used before the access point was used and/or after the access point is used. The differences in location between the cell IDs and the expected location of the Access Point is then determined to see if the Access Point is in its correct position.
