  • Patent number: 5975965
Abstract: An electrical connector element, especially a coaxial connector body (1), includes a forward connector part (2) and a rearward crimp barrel part (3), formed of a single piece of thin sheet metal, wherein the crimp barrel part is constructed to avoid resilient collapse during crimping. The sheet metal has been rolled into a cylinder with adjacent edges (7, 8), with each edge provided with a circumferentially-projecting tab (11, 12) that overlies the other edge. The two tabs prevent one edge from riding over the other to thereby prevent resilient collapse of the cylinder during crimping, but instead hold the edges adjacent to cause plastic deformation of the crimp barrel part during crimping.

  • Patent number: 5580187
Abstract: Apparatus for laying and/or retrieving elongate flexible elements, such as pipes and cables having accessories at spaced intervals, is mounted on a floating vessel such as a barge an comprises two self powered conveyors pivotally connected together through a hinge but which may be locked relative to one another for use. A trolley runs on wheels or rails on either side of the conveyor system and has an upper surface consisting of a further powered conveyor. The sides of the conveyor extend to form a chute at the outboard end. In normal operation the trolley is stored and the pipe or cable is carried by the conveyors to the chute which guides it into the water. The shape of the chute permits the pipe/cable to leave the barge at up to 45 degrees either side of the fore and aft axis of the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 5402922
Abstract: A cover for a spare wheel arranged externally at the rear of a motor vehicle has a clamping strap which covers the entire tread of the tire. In its lateral edge regions, the clamping strap is drawn in towards the center of the wheel. A round plate covers the free side of the wheel. Over the peripheral edge region of the plate, the drawn-in edge region of the clamping strap engages. In order to make such a cover easy to mount for a single person and to permit it to be used simultaneously for different tire widths, there is provided an outer, annular region of the plate bent to extend towards the spare wheel. A support body can be inserted into a vehicle-side receptacle as far as a stop. The support body is attached to the center of the rear of the plate. The length of the support body is dimensioned such that, when tightening the clamping strap, the plate, acting so to speak as a disc spring, presses the support body against its stop.

  • Patent number: 4893965
Abstract: A system for offshore operations include a column 1 extending above sea level from the seabed, which is connected by a bridge 2 to a semisubmersible offshore oil production platform 3. The connection of the bridge 2 to the platform 3 is achieved by an improved joint arrangement which permits relative rotation about both substantially vertical and horizontal axes to reduce loads transmitted to the column. The column 1 is connected by a universal joint arrangement 4 to a base on the seabed. The joint 4 has radially outwardly distributed joint surfaces which provides an axial passageway through the joint for risers. The joint arrangement includes a first main joint and a second normally unloaded ball joint which takes up the column load in the event of failure of the first joint.

  • Patent number: 4865298
Abstract: A tuyere stock for a blast furnace comprises three pipes arranged end-to-end. Between the first and second pipes and between the second and third pipes there are flexible bellows units and a pair of links on opposite sides of the second pipe are connected at their ends through spherical bearings to the first and third pipes so as to permit relative movement between the first and third pipes in two mutually normal directions which are also normal to the longitudinal axes of the links.

  • Patent number: 4511214
Abstract: The invention relates to an exterior mirror for vehicles, with a mirror-housing which, in normal operation, is retained in a fixed location on the vehicle and which, in the event of a collision, can fold away, forwards or backwards, until it assumes at least an approximately flat position against the vehicle. Folding occurs about a pair of pivot-axes. A mirror-shell, carrying a reflector, is retained in the interior of the mirror-housing. An aerodynamically efficient fairing is provided on the leading side of the mirror-housing. In order to be able to design the fairing with a shape which is particularly aerodynamically efficient, namely with a shape which is particularly long in the direction in which the vehicle travels and which resembles a wedge, while nevertheless being able, on the other hand, to permit the mirror to fold away effectively and with little overhang, at least one separate pivot-axis is provided for the fairing of the mirror-housing.

  • Patent number: 4502759
Abstract: The invention relates to a servo-controlled adjustable outside rear view mirror for vehicles, having a stationary mirror housing and a mirror shell which carries the reflector and is able to move therein. In the mirror housing there is provided an interchangeable drive unit for the vertical and horizontal adjustment of the reflector, said drive unit being affixed to the back of the mirror housing or of the mirror shell. The invention aims at providing a broad vibrationless bearing surface for the mirror shell. Furthermore, by means of a simple control switch the mirror shall be adjustable in the same manner about a geometrically defined horizontal and vertical axis. The invention also aims at providing a wedge-shaped convergent, aerodynamic mirror housing. For this purpose, the drive unit is coupled by means of a movable plate to the rear of the mirror shell which can turn on a vertical axis, but the swivel connection has torsional strength about the horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 4503405
Abstract: A frequency modulator circuit arrangement, comprising a phase modulator (1) having a carrier signal input (2) which is fed from a carrier signal generator (18) and a modulation signal input (3) which is fed from a modulation signal input terminal (6) via an integrated circuit (7), includes a controllable frequency divider (16) in the carrier signal path through the phase modulator enabling the arrangement to operate with input modulation signals containing d.c. components without the integrator circuit output signal reaching impossibly high values. If the integrator output signal exceeds a first threshold (at terminal 26), a D-type flip-flop (27) is tripped causing a switch 28 to close, reducing the charge in the integrator capacitor (10) via a resistor (22) and hence changing the phase shift produced by the phase modulator. The division factor of the divider is simultaneously changed for one or more divisions cycles to introduce a compensating steady phase shift.

  • Patent number: 4038195
Abstract: Aqueous foam type film-forming fire-fighting composition contains surfactant having fluorocarbon radical and of relatively simple and effective structure but not suitable by itself for use with sea water, combined with a foamability-improving surfactant that is suitable for use with sea water and in an amount that makes the entire composition suitable for use with sea water.
