  • Patent number: 6513140
Abstract: Convolutional codes are decoded by calculating, for uncoded and coded symbols, a first and/or second item of reliability information (&Lgr;u and &Lgr;c respectively). The item of reliability information is representative of the probability that the considered nth uncoded or coded symbol is equal to a value i of the symbol set, under the condition that a specific sequence of received coded symbols is present. An approximate expression is proposed for calculating the second item of reliability information.

  • Publication number: 20030012268
Abstract: The method and device enable determining the carrier frequency of base stations in the mobile receiver of a cellular mobile radio system working with W-CDMA. • Publication number: 20030007579
Abstract: A turbo-code decoder with iterative channel parameter estimation for decoding turbo-coded received data that includes systematic information data and redundant data. The turbo-code decoder includes a weighting circuit for weighting the turbo-coded received data with at least one estimated channel parameter. Estimated value data is generated. A turbo-code coding circuit turbo-codes the generated estimated value data. A comparison circuit compares the turbo-coded estimated value data with the turbo-coded received data, and depending on the result of the comparison, iteratively sets the estimated channel parameter(s) in order to weight the turbo-coded received data.

  • Publication number: 20020196772
Abstract: In a method for synchronizing a mobile radio receiver with a radio signal time slot structure a first portion, detected during a first time slot period, and a second portion, detected during a later time slot period, of a received time slot synchronization code sequence is correlated with the known time slot synchronization code sequence sent out by the base station in the receiver. • Publication number: 20020163978
Abstract: In a receiving method for mobile radio applications, a given user data signal and at least one further user data signal located within the same frequency band are received. These two user data signals are equalized with an adaptive multiuser data detector and with a multiuser channel decoder that is connected in the feeback path to the adaptive muliuser data detector. Noise-reduction in the given user data signal is achieved by taking into consideration, during channel decoding, an extrinsic information item generated during source decoding.

  • Publication number: 20020150073
Abstract: A method for estimating a channel impulse response of a mobile radio channel is described. The mobile radio channel is accessed over a wide bandwidth by a code division multiplex method. A second mobile radio channel continuously transmits sequences to a multiplicity of mobile radio receivers, and the sequences are known to each of the multiplicity of mobile radio receivers. The delay parameters of the mobile radio channel are estimated using the sequences transmitted via the second mobile radio channel. The mobile radio receiver is adjusted in accordance with the delay parameters estimated and weighting factors of the mobile radio channel are determined.

  • Publication number: 20020141480
Abstract: Mobile radio receivers in a mobile radio system are synchronized. A first synchronization channel is provided, which has a first frequency and via which a code which is known to all the mobile radio receivers and to all the base stations of the mobile radio system is transmitted with a signal. The transmission from a base station to a mobile radio receiver delays the signal by an unknown time period and the first frequency is displaced by the transmission to a second frequency. The method includes a correlation and sampling of the received signal, digital filtering of the correlated and sampled signal, squaring of the filtered signal, determination of the maximum signal level of the squared signal, estimation of the unknown time period with the maximum signal level, despreading of the received signal with the known code, taking into account the just-estimated time period, and fine-tuning of the second frequency to the first frequency.

  • Publication number: 20020141483
Abstract: A method is described for estimating channel impulse responses of a mobile radio channel. The estimation of the channel impulse responses is accessed with a broad bandwidth by a code division multiplexing method, and with a synchronization channel via which sequences are continuously transmitted to mobile radio receivers. The sequences are provided for synchronization of each mobile radio receiver, are transmitted via the synchronization channel, and are known to each of the mobile radio receivers. The transmitted sequences have pilot symbols for identifying the synchronization channel, and the pilot symbols are transmitted at points that are known to the receivers within a time slot. When searching for and identifying the synchronization channel, the pilot symbols and, possibly, further symbols and sequences which are known in the receivers, are evaluated to estimate the delay times and the complex amplitudes, of the mobile radio channel responses.

  • Publication number: 20020131392
Abstract: To achieve an improved disparate error protection in the transmission of coded symbols of an information stream, the information stream is supplied to a multiplicity of coding branches for coding, and is supplied in parallel, to a puncturing and multiplexing unit. Symbols of different quality classes are fed into each coding branch using a demultiplexer. An interleaver follows at least one demultiplexer for generating error protection for the filtered symbols. The symbols, which may possibly be interleaved, are coded in each coding branch and are supplied to the puncturing and multiplexing unit. The puncturing and multiplexing unit sets a predetermined coding rate.
