  • Publication number: 20060244660
Abstract: A beam-forming apparatus and method for improving system performance using a spatial interpolation and at least one Angle of Arrival (AoA) in a system based on regular spatial sampling is provided. The AoA is estimated using a carrier-to-interference ratio. Beam-forming angles are distributed and steered in a predefined scheme such that an identical process is applied in all directions. According to this steering, a linear system model is computed based on regular spatial sampling using regular spatial separation at beam angles. Beam-forming performance is improved by compensating for a difference between adaptive and sector-type arrays. Only the steps of computing a spatial interpolation and determining an angle range for beam-forming using at least one AoA are added. The precision of estimating an AoA and the precision of beam-forming increase without an additional antenna. Because the system is simpler than that of an adaptive beam-forming system, significant gain is obtained.

  • Patent number: 7013412
Abstract: In a method for deinterleaving a data signal interleaved in blocks in accordance with a prescribed interleaving specification, deinterleaving target addresses are calculated for a first prescribed segment of the data symbols to be deinterleaved, and are stored in a target address memory. The relevant segment of the data symbols is then deinterleaved by using the calculated target addresses. Subsequently, these two steps are repeated until the entire data block has been segmentally deinterleaved.

  • Patent number: 7003029
Abstract: A method for equalizing and decoding an error-protected data signal transmitted via a radio channel is described. According to the method, an equalized data signal is calculated at the receiving end in a demodulator with a first channel estimator. The equalized data signal is decoded by a decoder to determine a decoded output signal. The equalized data signal is transmitted to a second channel estimator, which repeatedly detects second channel parameters of the radio channel. The parameters are transmitted to the decoder which uses them as calculation parameters during decoding.

  • Publication number: 20050281188
Abstract: A transmitter and receiver for fast frequency hopping based on a cyclic frequency hopping pattern in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system. The transmitter outputs a transmission signal vector having a plurality of samples. In the receiver, a first Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) processor transforms a first received signal vector into a second received signal vector of a frequency domain by using FFT. An equalizer multiplies the received signal vector by an inverse matrix of a channel matrix representing characteristics of a channel from the transmitter to the receiver. A modified IFFT processor transforms output of the equalizer by using IFFT, and multiplies IFFT outputs of a last stage of the modified IFFT processor by predetermined gains associated with the cyclic frequency hopping pattern of the transmitter. A second FFT processor transforms output of the modified IFFT processor by using FFT to output a recovered received signal vector.

  • Publication number: 20050276361
Abstract: A noise and interference power measurement apparatus for an antenna diversity system that services a plurality of users with an array antenna having a plurality of antenna elements. A channel estimator estimates a channel impulse response for a radio channel corresponding to a predetermined plurality of regularly spaced direction-of-arrival (DOA) values. A data estimator estimates the received data using a received signal and a system matrix. A quantizer quantizes the estimated data. An interference and noise calculator calculates noise vectors at the respective antenna elements by removing from the received signal an influence of the quantized data to which the system matrix is applied, calculates an estimated noise matrix at the plurality of antenna elements, calculates interference power by auto-correlating the estimated noise matrix, and calculates noise and interference power based on the interference power.

  • Publication number: 20050277397
Abstract: A frequency generator according to the invention includes a controllable oscillator comprising a control input and an oscillator output, wherein the controllable oscillator is formed to output, at the oscillator output, an oscillator signal with an oscillator frequency dependent on a control signal at the control input, sampling means for sampling the oscillator signal or a signal of the controllable oscillator derived therefrom with a reference frequency, in order to obtain a sample signal, and a low-pass filter for low-pass filtering the sample signal or a signal derived therefrom, in order to obtain the control signal or a signal underlying the control signal. Due to the less intensive construction, in particular the lack of a frequency divider, and the quicker adjustability of the currently generated frequency, according to the invention, more current-saving frequency generation may be obtained.

  • Publication number: 20050271016
Abstract: A joint channel and Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation apparatus and method simplified to efficiently estimate a channel impulse response associated with a spatially selective transmission channel occurring in a mobile radio channel are provided. To uniformly process all directions, angles associated with a beam are predetermined according to a preset method. This selection calculates a linear system model with regular spatial sampling using regular spatial separation of beam angles. The novel beam forming compensates for a difference between an adaptive array antenna and a sector type antenna using appropriate beam steering according to the calculated linear system model, thereby improving performance and facilitating implementation.

  • Publication number: 20050259006
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for simply estimating joint channel and Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) to efficiently estimate a channel impulse response associated with a spatially selective transmission channel occurring in a mobile radio channel, and performing efficient beam forming using the simplified joint channel and DOA estimation are provided. A receiver estimates the total interference power using power for each interference signal, estimates a spectral noise density, calculates steering vectors considering predetermined DOAs, and jointly calculates optimal weight vectors for each DOA of each user by applying the interference power and the spectral noise density to the steering vectors. The beam forming reduces implementation complexity of a TDD system such as a TD-SCDMA and increases beam forming efficiency in a mobile environment by efficiently using spatial diversity.
