Patent number: 9409066Abstract: A face insert for golf club head in one embodiment can comprise a substrate comprising a score line groove-free front surface. A cover layer is provided at least on the front surface of the substrate. The cover layer can alternatively overlay at least a portion of the peripheral edge of the substrate. The cover layer comprises a ball-striking surface spaced by the cover layer from the substrate. Plural elongated score line grooves can extend into the polymer layer from the ball-striking surface. In addition, visible markings are interposed between the cover layer and the front surface of the substrate, the visible markings being visible through the cover layer. In one form the visible markings comprise elongated score line markings and target markings in a central portion of the substrate. The visible markings can be screen-printed markings, which are then protected by the cover layer from wear. The cover layer can be molded and can be a polymer layer.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2014Date of Patent: August 9, 2016Assignee: Taylor Made Golf Company, Inc.Inventors: Mark Lin, Bing-Ling Chao, Citra A. Publication number: 20160175667Abstract: Described are embodiments of putters that include a counterbalance weight located at the butt end of the shaft. The shaft and/or grip of disclosed putters can have reduced mass while the putter head and the butt of the shaft can have increased mass compared to conventional putters, which provides a similar overall total mass but with an increase in the moment of inertia (MOI). The increase in MOI compared to a conventional putter of similar style and mass can provide increased swing stability during a stroke, decreasing unintentional waggling about the hand grip fulcrum. The added weight in the putter head and the added weight in the butt of the putter can counterbalance each other so that the overall swingweight of the putter can be about the same as for a conventional, non-counterbalanced putter having the same total mass, thereby providing a familiar feel and easy playability.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2014Publication date: June 23, 2016Applicant: Taylor Made Golf Company, Inc.Inventors: Kassie Terra-Lynn Betts, Peter L. Patent number: 9155945Abstract: Clubs and clubheads are disclosed that allow the swing-weight thereof to be easily changed by attaching or exchanging a “weight-assembly” having a first portion configured as a “weight insert,” a second portion configured as an overcap, and a third portion configured as a drive screw. The drive screw extends through the overcap and into the weight-insert to assemble the weight-assembly, which fits into a weight-receiving cavity on the clubhead. These three components are made of respective materials (having respective densities) that are selected so that each component contributes a desired fraction of the total mass of the weight-assembly to the clubhead to achieve a desired change in swing-weight. By mix-match selection of the components, a wide range of masses of the weight assemblies can be made, with small increments therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2013Date of Patent: October 13, 2015Assignee: Taylor Made Golf Company, Inc.Inventors: Paul M.
