Publication number: 20130318772Abstract: An iron-type golf club head is disclosed having a heel portion, a sole portion, a toe portion, a top-line portion, a front portion, a rear portion, and a striking face. A back wall is also disclosed in the rear portion enclosing a portion of the rear portion to create an enclosed cavity. The cavity is defined by at least a rear surface of the striking face, an inner back wall surface, and the sole portion. A plug and a filler material is located within the enclosed cavity. The filler material surrounds the plug and is configured to hold the plug in place. The plug is lighter than the filler material.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 6, 2013Publication date: December 5, 2013Applicant: Taylor Made Golf Company, Inc.Inventors: Bret H. Wahl, Peter L. Publication number: 20130316842Abstract: Clubs and clubheads are disclosed that allow the swing-weight thereof to be easily changed by attaching or exchanging a “weight-assembly” having a first portion configured as a “weight insert,” a second portion configured as an overcap, and a third portion configured as a drive screw. The drive screw extends through the overcap and into the weight-insert to assemble the weight-assembly, which fits into a weight-receiving cavity on the clubhead. These three components are made of respective materials (having respective densities) that are selected so that each component contributes a desired fraction of the total mass of the weight-assembly to the clubhead to achieve a desired change in swing-weight. By mix-match selection of the components, a wide range of masses of the weight assemblies can be made, with small increments therebetween.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2013Publication date: November 28, 2013Applicant: Taylor Made Golf Company, Inc.Inventors: Paul M. Demkowski, Bret H. Wahl, Peter L. Larsen, Scott Edward Folck

Publication number: 20120083361Abstract: Golf clubs and club-heads for same are disclosed. An exemplary club-head has a hollow body and a face plate. The body defines a front opening and a face support, wherein the face plate is affixed to the face support and covers the front opening. The “face portion” of the club-head has a face area (Af, in mm2) and a face mass (Mf, in grams), wherein Af?5400 mm2, and in a plot of Mf as a function of Af, Mf is below Mf=0.0072(Af)+18. At least a portion of the face plate can be made of composite. E.g., the face plate can include a composite plate made of carbon fiber and cured epoxy resin. The strike face of the face plate can include a composite plate and a cap bonded to the composite plate on the strike face. The cap can be made of a metallic material, such as (but not limited to) titanium alloy or stainless steel.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2011Publication date: April 5, 2012Inventors: Todd P. Publication number: 20110306439Abstract: A face insert for golf club head in one embodiment can comprise a substrate comprising a score line groove-free front surface. A cover layer is provided at least on the front surface of the substrate. The cover layer can alternatively overlay at least a portion of the peripheral edge of the substrate. The cover layer comprises a ball-striking surface spaced by the cover layer from the substrate. Plural elongated score line grooves can extend into the polymer layer from the ball-striking surface. In addition, visible markings are interposed between the cover layer and the front surface of the substrate, the visible markings being visible through the cover layer. In one form the visible markings comprise elongated score line markings and target markings in a central portion of the substrate. The visible markings can be screen-printed markings, which are then protected by the cover layer from wear. The cover layer can be molded and can be a polymer layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 13, 2011Publication date: December 15, 2011Inventors: Mark Lin, Bing-Ling Chao, Citra A. Ie, Todd P.
