  • Patent number: 6726203
Abstract: An air assisted sheet guide device in a printing machine which is operable during either positive pressure (blast) air operation as well as suction air operation to permit reliable and stable sheet guidance with reduced air flow turbulence. The sheet guide device includes at least one module that defines a guide surface having air flow openings therein and an air flow channel, and a pneumatic system for creating either a positive or suction pressure generated air flow in the flow channel. One or more plate-like air directional elements are mounted within the air flow channel which create a uniform pressure distribution on the guide surface during positive (blast) air operation and which more uniformly direct air to the pneumatic system during suction pressure operation.

  • Publication number: 20030217582
Abstract: A system for detecting and displaying force data relating to impacts received on an item of athletic equipment includes two or more items of athletic equipment each having a force sensor, logic and a wireless transmitter therein, a receiver adapted to receiver signals from each of the transmitters, and a processor for formatting the data for display. The force sensor may be a capacitive force sensor. The logic may have an operating mode and a sleep mode, with an inertial sensor providing a signal to cause the logic to switch from sleep mode to operating mode. The logic identifies and stores signals exceeding a threshold for transmission. Transmissions are repeated, and the receiver is adapted to distinguish and discard corrupted and repeated transmissions. The display provides an indication of force and number of recorded hits in association with the names of the competitors.

  • Patent number: 6487623
Abstract: A computer system adapted for hot-pluggable components such as memory modules that may be replaced, upgraded and/or added without disturbing normal operation of the computer system. A failing memory module may be replaced by copying its contents to a new memory module in a background operation while the computer system runs its operating system and applications programs. When all contents are copied to the new memory module, the failing memory module may be removed without having to shut down the computer system. Computer system memory may be upgraded or added to by inserting the new memory module(s) into vacant disconnected memory connectors, whereupon the computer system automatically recognizes the new memory module(s), synchronously connects the new memory module(s) to the computer system memory bus, initializes the new memory module(s), and then notifies the operating system that the new memory module(s) is available, all without disturbing normal operation of the computer system.

  • Patent number: 6413242
Abstract: Injection device (1) for injecting fluid from a fluid container (4) equipped with a piston (5), comprising an actuating device (7) having a rod-shaped driven member (9) having a structured surface, a control button (8) being movable in axial direction, and a hollow cylindrical counter component (11) having a structured internal sleeve and said counter component matching the rod-shaped driven member (9). When twisting the counter component (11) in relation to the driven member (9), the driven member (9) can be shifted freely in axial direction. This allows the free return of the driving member—without the need for additional control elements—only when the patient releases the driven member (9) by turning it, i.e. by a conscious additional operation.

  • Publication number: 20010034507
Abstract: The invention relates to an injection device for injecting a selectable dose of a liquid substance from an ampoule (2), located in an ampoule holder (1), comprising a piston (12) and a sleeve-shaped mechanism holder (3), mechanically coupled thereto, in the interior of which a longitudinally shiftable shaft (4) is provided which acts on the ampoule (2), the shaft (4) being surrounded by an also longitudinally shiftable advancing sleeve (5), mechanically coupled thereto, which in its upper end area is closed by a lid (7). For selecting a dose of the liquid substance to be injected, a dosing sleeve (6) with a stepped member (13) is provided, which is disposed on the mechanism holder (3) in its upper end area, the dose to be respectively administered being adjustable by a rotation of the dosing sleeve (6) with the stepped member (13).

  • Publication number: 20010023556
Abstract: A driving motor (1) for an actuating drive having improved jamming protection of a closing part, e.g., a window pane (2) of a motor vehicle. The closing part is adjusted via a transmission, e.g., a cable drive drum (3, 4). To avoid over-dimensioning of the driving motor (1), a variable transmission is provided that delivers a substantially constant load on the driving motor (1) over the entire adjustment path of the window pane (2). Thereby, a design of the driving motor (1) to cope with an increased load, which would otherwise be caused when the closing part slides into a closed position, is avoided. In addition, since the closing part approaches the closed position with a lower speed, the closing part is able to brake rapidly, if necessary. This results, e.g., in an improved jamming protection function of the closing part.

  • Patent number: 6098134
Abstract: A computer system has a processor bus under control of the microprocessor itself, and this bus communicates with main memory, providing high-performance access for most cache fill operations. In addition, the system includes one or more expansion buses, preferably of the PCI type in the example embodiment. A host-to-PCI bridge is used for coupling the processor bus to the expansion bus. Other buses may be coupled to the PCI bus via PCI-to-(E)ISA bridges, for example. The host-to-PCI bridge contains queues for posted writes and delayed read requests. All transactions are queued going through the bridge, upstream or downstream. According to a feature of the invention, provision is made for split transactions, i.e., a read request which is not satisfied while the processor requesting it is still on the bus, but instead the bus is relinquished and other transactions intervene before the read result is available.

  • Patent number: 6002680
Abstract: The main station (MS) and possibly also the terminal stations (T1, T2, T3) of a telecommunication network is/are provided with memories wherein historical information (TT1, TT2, TT3, TT4, CT1, CT2, CT3), i.e. information with respect to log-in attempts of terminal stations (T1, T2, T3) in the past, is stored. This historical information is frequently updated and is used during a polled log-in method wherein terminals (T1, T2, T3) are polled either individually or in groups, executed for instance after a network crash or power-down, to limit the number of terminals that has to be polled by the main station (MS) so as to speed up the polled log-in procedure. The performance of the log-in of each single terminal further increases significantly if this terminal is located at a substantially fixed location in the network and if power- and delay information for transmitting upstream identification messages during log-in are also contained by the historical information.

  • Patent number: 5967661
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the temperature of an object within a process chamber is described. The process chamber includes a platform for receiving the object and an energy source for transferring energy to the object. The apparatus includes a shield, and a first and second energy sensor. The shield is positioned in the chamber adjacent the object to create an isothermal cavity in the space between the object and the shield. The shield is designed to receive from the energy source an amount of energy approximating that received by the object. The first energy sensor is positioned between the shield and the platform to measure the temperature of the object. The second energy sensor measures the temperature of the shield.A method for establishing an isothermal condition within the process chamber includes the steps of varying the shield temperature in inverse relationship to the difference between the shield temperature and a target temperature.

  • Patent number: 5930262
Abstract: The method is used in a system comprising a central station (CS) coupled to each of a plurality of terminal stations (TS1-TSn), wherein the central station (CS) is enabled to transmit downstream frames (DS) to the terminal stations to allow the terminal stations to transfer upstream frames (US) to the central station in time slots assigned thereto by way of of access grant information (TEA1-TEA4) included in the downstream frames. The downstream frame (DS) is a superframe having a matrix structure with rows and columns, and a first portion and a second portion of the matrix structure is an overhead portion (S, TCB) and an information portion (ATM) respectively. The overhead portion includes the access grant information and the size of the overhead portion is flexibly adaptable. The central station and the terminal stations are adapted to send and to interpret the superframe.
