  • Patent number: 9778195
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns a method and detector (10) for detecting an analyte (1) in a sample volume (2), such as nitrosamine in an amine solvent. The method comprises measuring a resonance Raman spectrum (I1) with a first light beam (PI) matching an electronic transition of the analyte (1). The detection of the analyte is enhanced by measuring an off-resonance Raman spectrum (12) using a second light beam (P2) that is shifted in wavelength at least 10 nm away from the electronic resonance. The resonance Raman signal (S1) of the analyte (1) is isolated from the background (Q1, Q2) by a difference analysis between the resonance and off-resonance Raman spectra (I1, I2). The method and detector (10) can be employed for detecting nitrosamine in a carbon capture process or plant (20) that employs an amine solvent.

  • Patent number: 9752549
Abstract: An apparatus for generating electricity from water flow comprises a convergent section, a diffuser section and tube for locating within a body of water. The convergent section is connected to a first end of a mixing chamber such that a venturi is defined between the end of the convergent section and the mixing chamber. The diffuser section is connected to a second end of the mixing chamber, the diffuser section configured such that in use the pressure at the exit of the diffuser section is greater than the pressure at the venturi. At least part of the tube is located in the convergent section, such that an annulus is defined between the tube and the convergent section, to form a first flow passage. The tube defines a second flow passage within the tube; and a turbine connectable to a generator is located within the tube.

  • Patent number: 9722772
Abstract: An intermediate clock, either a boundary or a transparent clock, may have to adjust its local clock to match that of a grandmaster clock. If such adjustment is frequent or large, then the intermediate clock may not have much confidence in the reliability of the timing information it passes to a downstream clock in an IEEE 1588 Announce message even if the quality of its local clock is high. The intermediate clock determines a measure of the reliability of its timing information. The intermediate clock inserts an indication of the reliability of the timing information in a transmitted IEEE 1588 Announce message. The intermediate clock may consider an indication of reliability found in an Announce message it receives when inserting an indication of the reliability of timing information into an Announce message which it transmits.

  • Publication number: 20170184069
Abstract: An apparatus for generating electricity from water flow held behind a barrier includes a convergent section connected to a first end of a mixing tube such that a venturi is defined between the end of the convergent section and the mixing tube; a diffuser section connected to a second end of the mixing tube, the diffuser section configured such that the pressure at the exit of the diffuser section is greater than the pressure at the venturi; and a turbine tube comprising a blade assembly having a plurality of blades. The turbine tube is supported in the convergent section and is rotatably mounted, the blades being attached to the inner surface of turbine tube such that water flow past the blades drives the rotation of the turbine tube.

  • Publication number: 20170165424
Abstract: A trigger operated syringe (100) for intramammary injection of antibiotics has a fluid containing syringe cartridge (203) activated by a plunger (206) which is inserted into the syringe cartridge (203A) and expels fluid when the trigger (205) is pulled. A syringe cartridge holding mechanism (223) holds the syringe cartridge in place until the trigger (205) is released and the plunger (206) retracted. Single syringe cartridge (203) and multiple syringe cartridge (204) versions are disclosed. The plunger moves in a direction which is effectively perpendicular to the direction of movement of the trigger, allowing for ease of injection to a cow's teats, and ejection of the spent cartridges.
