    Abstract: Disclosed is a medical device component for delivering medication fluid to a patient. The medical device component includes a fluid infusion device to regulate delivery of medication fluid, a body-mountable base unit, and a top cover assembly that is removably couplable to the base unit and to the fluid infusion device. The base unit includes a cannula to deliver medication fluid under the control of the fluid infusion device, and a physiological analyte sensor to measure a physiological characteristic. The base unit also includes an electronics assembly electrically connected to sensor leads to obtain measurements in the analog domain, to convert measurements into digital sensor data, and to communicate conditioned digital sensor data to the fluid infusion device. The top cover assembly is configured to provide both fluid and electrical connections for the base unit, by way of an infusion tube having sensor conductors integrated therein or otherwise associated therewith.

Alternatively, the sensor electronics device may include an electrical detection circuit and a microcontroller. The electrical detection circuit determines if the plurality of electrodes are hydrated and generates an interrupt if the electrodes are hydrated. A microcontroller receives the interrupt and transmits a signal representative of a voltage to an electrode of the plurality of electrodes.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for non-invasively determining a concentration of glucose in a subject using optical excitation and detection is provided. The method includes emitting an exciter beam (B1) to irradiate a portion (130) of tissue of the subject, causing physical and chemical changes in the surface, and causing an initial back scattering (D1) of light. The method further includes periodically emitting a probe beam (B2) which irradiates the portion of tissue and causes periodic back scatterings (D2) of light. The initial and periodic back scatterings are detected and converted into electrical signals of at least the amplitude, frequency or decay time of the physical and chemical changes, the back scatterings being modulated by the physical and chemical changes. By differentiating over time at least one of the amplitude, frequency or decay time of the physical and chemical changes, the concentration of glucose may be determined.

    Abstract: A blood glucose sensing system includes a sensor and a sensor electronics device. The sensor includes a plurality of electrodes. The sensor electronics device includes stabilization circuitry. The stabilization circuitry causes a first voltage to be applied to one of the electrodes for a first timeframe and causes a second voltage to be applied to one of the electrodes for a second timeframe. The stabilization circuitry repeats the application of the first voltage and the second voltage to continue the anodic-cathodic cycle.     Abstract: A planetary gearset is provided in a transmission for a vehicle. The planetary gearset includes a carrier that rotates about the axis. Tone wheels can be used as part of a speed-sensing mechanism in which the tone wheel includes surface features on an outside surface, and a speed sensor senses the surface features as they rotate about the axis and past the speed sensor. The tone wheel is connected to the carrier via a press-fit or interference-fit. To do so, the tone wheel includes legs or flanges that extend inward from an inner surface of the tone wheel. The legs or flanges flex as the tone wheel is pressed onto the carrier. The legs or flanges securely attach the tone wheel to the carrier.
