  • Patent number: 10154862
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide systems and methods for vertebral reduction using sleeves detachably coupled to collars of bone fasteners. The reduction can be performed during a minimally invasive procedure for implanting spinal stabilization systems. A sleeve can include internal threads that match threads on the respective collar to form a continuous set of threads. Threads on a closure member can be engaged with the threads on the sleeve and the closure member turned to translate the closure member along the sleeve. The closure member can be used to push a rod relative to the collar to which the sleeve is attached to cause a vertebral body to move.

  • Patent number: 10088735
Abstract: An Optical Information Transfer Enhancer System includes a first system for producing an information bearing first optical wave that is impressed with a first information having a first information strength wherein the first optical wave has a first shape. A second system produces a second optical wave. An information strength enhancer module receives the first and said second optical waves and impresses the first optical wave upon the second optical wave via cross-phase modulation (XPM) to produce an information-strength-enhanced second optical wave having a second information strength that is greater than the first information strength of the first optical wave. Following a center-wavelength changer by an Optical Information Transfer Enhancer System improves its performance.

  • Publication number: 20180266269
Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying rub events of a gas turbine engine are provided. In one exemplary aspect, one or more power level changes of the turbine engine are identified from engine operating data. For a particular identified power level change, a magnitude of the power level change and a rate of the power level change are calculated. The calculated magnitude and rate of the given power level change define a data point that is plotted on a chart of the magnitude versus the rate of power level change. The data points are filtered based on one or more operating parameters, such as flight phase, to obtain a severity threshold specific to the operating conditions of the engine/aircraft at the time the power level change was performed. One or more data points are then compared to the severity threshold to identify possible rub events.

  • Publication number: 20180223665
Abstract: A method for evaluating load performance of a rotor/stator test coupon, advantageously within a sealable test chamber comprising test fluid. In some embodiments, the test coupon comprises at least a partial length of a PDM stage, and in others the test coupon comprises a splined rotor/stator. The method includes rotating either the rotor section or the stator section, wherein such rotation actuates corresponding rotation of the other of the rotor section and the stator section. A braking torque is applied to the actuated one of the rotor section and the stator section such that load performance of the test coupon may be evaluated. Embodiments include selectively applying non-linear torque to load the test coupon, and evaluating load performance of the test coupon with reference to relative angular positions of the rotor section and the stator section over time.

  • Publication number: 20180216462
Abstract: A method for measuring load performance of a positive displacement motor (PDM) test coupon. The test coupon comprises a partial length of a PDM stage and is received inside a sealable test chamber. In some embodiments, the test coupon may be cut from a failed PDM stage. The test chamber is filled with test fluid. In some embodiments, the test fluid may be drilling fluid sampled from a live well. Rotation of the rotor on the test coupon actuates rotation of the stator. A braking torque is applied to the stator rotation, enabling evaluation of, for example, fatigue load performance of test coupon. Additional embodiments comprise the rotor axis and the stator axis being offset in order to simulate rotor/stator eccentricity in a full size PDM stage.

  • Patent number: 10025123
Abstract: The various technologies presented herein relate to various hybrid phononic-photonic waveguide structures that can exhibit nonlinear behavior associated with traveling-wave forward stimulated Brillouin scattering (forward-SBS). The various structures can simultaneously guide photons and phonons in a suspended membrane. By utilizing a suspended membrane, a substrate pathway can be eliminated for loss of phonons that suppresses SBS in conventional silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguides. Consequently, forward-SBS nonlinear susceptibilities are achievable at about 3000 times greater than achievable with a conventional waveguide system. Owing to the strong phonon-photon coupling achievable with the various embodiments, potential application for the various embodiments presented herein cover a range of radiofrequency (RF) and photonic signal processing applications. Further, the various embodiments presented herein are applicable to applications operating over a wide bandwidth, e.g. 100 MHz to 50 GHz or more.
