  • Patent number: 10655472
Abstract: An aerofoil having a leading edge and a trailing edge, the leading edge including a plurality of slits extending toward the trailing edge, such that the leading edge is defined by alternating peaks and troughs. Each peak extends in a generally spanwise direction and defines a peak width, each peak being separated from an adjacent peak in the spanwise direction by a trough. Each trough extends in the generally spanwise direction and is spaced in a chordwise direction from the peak, each trough defining a trough width. • Publication number: 20190277157
Abstract: Rotor thrust balancing systems for turbomachines and methods of using the same are generally disclosed. For example, a rotor thrust balancing system for a turbomachine, wherein the turbomachine defines a centerline extending the length of the turbomachine. The system includes a rotating drive shaft, a thrust bearing, and a first waveguide sensor. The rotating drive shaft couples a turbine section and a compressor section of the turbomachine. The thrust bearing supports the rotating drive shaft of the turbomachine. The thrust bearing includes a plurality of ball bearings, an inner race coupled to the rotating drive shaft, and an outer race coupled to a fixed structure. The first waveguide sensor is coupled to the outer race at a first end of the waveguide sensor. • Publication number: 20190265776
Abstract: A power-subsystem-monitoring-based computing system includes a power subsystem coupled to a first computing component. A throttling engine throttles the first computing component when the power subsystem exceeds its maximum power consumption, and de-throttles the first computing component when the power subsystem no longer exceeds its maximum power consumption. The throttling engine also throttles the first computing component when the power subsystem exceeds its rated power consumption for a first time period, and de-throttles the first computing component when the power subsystem no longer exceeds its rated power consumption.

  • Patent number: 10069839
Abstract: Establishing secure connections from a computing device to secure servers when the computing device starts with an incorrect system clock time that would ordinarily prohibit connection to the secure servers. A method includes attempting to access a plurality of secure servers. The method further includes, from each of the servers in the plurality of secure servers, receiving one or more certificates from the secure servers and metadata which includes a specification of time. The method further includes preventing secure applications from sending sensitive data to the plurality of secure servers until a system time has been approximated. The method further includes, from the secure specifications of time, approximating a current system time. The method further includes accessing another secure server using the approximated current system time and using the approximated current system time to validate a certificate from the other server.

  • Publication number: 20180232951
Abstract: Systems for controlling concentric tube probes are disclosed. In some examples, the system includes a concentric tube position display interface and a control system. The concentric tube display interface includes a display for displaying visual feedback to a user indicating a position (and possibly orientation) of a tip of a concentric tube probe and a user input device for receiving user input from the user designating a goal position (and possibly orientation) for the tip of the concentric tube probe. The control system is configured for interactive-rate motion planning of the concentric tube probe by creating, in real-time or near real-time, a motion plan to move the tip of the concentric tube probe to the goal position (and possibly orientation) while avoiding contact by the concentric tube probe with one or more obstacles and for configuring the concentric tube probe as specified by the motion plan.

  • Patent number: 9943170
Abstract: Products manufactured from a structural laminate generally include a first elongate portion and a second elongate portion fixedly coupled together such that the layers of the structural laminate are visible on at least one surface of the products. The second elongate portion is divided to produce a cut at an intermediate position such that at least one layer of the structural laminate is removed by the cut and an intermediate layer is exposed such that it is visible on an edge of the products. Additionally, a substrate is fixedly coupled to the elongate portions in an orthogonal orientation to layers in the structural laminate of the elongate portions. In some products, portions of the structural laminate are removed to produce voids in the surface, exposing intermediate features of the structural laminate.
