    Abstract: A pump includes a housing defining a tube receiving portion and a blade mounted for reciprocating movement between first and second positions. In its first position, the leading edge of the blade compresses a length of tube against a first surface disposed in the tube-receiving portion, while in the second position, the blade does not compress the tube. The tube-receiving portion can receive the tube directly or indirectly through a tube set detachably mounted to the housing. The tube set includes a tube and a base having first and second end portions that respectively define first and second tube-receiving apertures for slidably receiving a length of the tube therethrough. The base has a first surface constructed to engage the length of tube between the apertures for compression by the pump blade.

    Abstract: A ventilator includes a hood structure having an air inlet slot and a multi-position damper baffle within the hood structure. The damper baffle is movably positioned adjacent the air inlet slot for movement between (i) an exhaust cycle position in which the damper baffle allows gases to flow through the hood structure, (ii) a wash cycle position in which the damper baffle closes off the air inlet slot; and (iii) a fire cycle position in which the damper baffle divides the hood structure into an upper section and a lower section. A manifold and associated water control valve may also be provided, along with a motor for controlling damper baffle positioning, an exhaust fan for air flow, and with a controller being provided for automated operation. In an internal fire mode of the controller the damper baffle is moved to the fire cycle position, the exhaust fan is turned off and the water control valve is opened.

The cladding includes a plurality of openings for receiving wheel mounting lugs. Spaced from the openings are a plurality of spaced snap-locking tabs extending from the inner facing surface of the cladding toward the wheel to which the cladding is to be mounted. The wheel includes a generally circular relief cut or other recess extending around the central hub or in spaced relationship thereto and aligned with the spaced tabs of the cladding to snap-receive the cladding for holding it in place while adhesive applied to the wheel and/or cladding is cured to permanently bond the decorative cladding to the wheel.

    Abstract: A decorative device includes a supporting release layer, a flexible backing layer, an adhesive layer on the backing layer, the adhesive layer being covered by the release layer such that the backing layer is removable from the release layer to expose the adhesive layer on the backing layer, and a decorative layer disposed on a surface of the flexible backing layer opposite to the adhesive layer. A decorative article is printed on the decorative layer, the decorative article having a pair of wings, with a cut extending peripherally about the decorative article and penetrating through the decorative layer and the flexible backing layer, but not through the supporting release layer, the cut defining a decorative element which includes the wings. A strip of adhesive located between the wings adheres the decorative layer to the flexible backing layer, and enables the wings to be folded to stand out from the backing layer.

The instrument includes a processor for predicting formation of the ice ball by the cryoprobe over time and a display for displaying the prediction of ice ball formation. The processor is responsive to an output signal provided by the measuring device and a model of the effective thermal conductivity of the tissue of the patient targeted for surgery. In one embodiment, the measuring device is embedded in the sheath and measures temperature, thermal conductivity, blood perfusion rate and/or thermal diffusivity. The processor may be further responsive to an impedance measurement circuit for verifying the prediction.

    Abstract: An improved structure for carbon--carbon composite piston architectures is disclosed. The improvement consists of replacing the knitted fiber, three-dimensional piston preform architecture described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,909,133 (Taylor et al.) with a two-dimensional lay-up or molding of carbon fiber fabric or tape. Initially, the carbon fabric or tape layers are prepregged with carbonaceous organic resins and/or pitches and are laid up or molded about a mandrel, to form a carbon-fiber reinforced organic-matrix composite part shaped like a "U" channel, a "T"-bar, or a combination of the two. The molded carbon-fiber reinforced organic-matrix composite part is then pyrolized in an inert atmosphere, to convert the organic matrix materials to carbon. At this point, cylindrical piston blanks are cored from the "U"-channel, "T"-bar, or combination part. These blanks are then densified by reimpregnation with resins or pitches which are subsequently carbonized.
