  • Publication number: 20150000015
Abstract: A protective helmet with a second shell having a top end connected to a top portion of a first shell such as to allow relative movement between the first shell and the bottom end of the second shell about a connection between the top end and the top portion along two opposed directions. Two connecting members are each connected to a respective side portion of the first shell at a fixed location and are each connected to the bottom end of the second shell through a respective connection allowing relative movement therebetween. An adjustment mechanism is connected to the second shell and has a movable portion movable between an unlocked position free of the connecting members to allow relative movement between the first and second shells and a locked position in engagement with the connecting members to prevent relative movement between the first and second shells along at least one of the opposed directions.

  • Patent number: 8661449
Abstract: Computations are performed on shared datasets in a distributed computing cluster using aggressive speculation and a distributed runtime that executes code transactionally. Speculative transactions are conducted with currently available data on the assumption that no dependencies exist that will render the input data invalid. For those specific instances where this assumption is found to be incorrect—that the input data did indeed have a dependency (thereby impacting the correctness of the speculated transaction)—the speculated transaction is aborted and its results (and all transactions that relied on its results) are rolled-back accordingly for re-computation using updated input data. In operation, shared state data is read and written using only the system's data access API which ensures that computations can be rolled-back when conflicts stemming from later-determined dependencies are detected.

  • Publication number: 20130334992
Abstract: A control method implemented in a power converter including an inverter connected to a synchronous electric motor including permanent magnets, the electric motor being modeled in the power converter by a mathematical model of currents in the electric motor expressing a flux current and a torque current on the basis of magnetic-saturation parameters. The control method identifies magnetic-saturation parameters during a learning procedure including applying a static voltage signal and a high-frequency voltage signal along an axis of the flux and/or an axis of the torque of the motor to cause an oscillation of the current on the axis of the flux and/or on the axis of the torque.
