  • Patent number: 5445400
Abstract: A cycle frame includes a top member having a front terminal portion and a rear assembly portion, a bottom member defining a rear fork and a sloping member that is upwardly inclined from the rear fork to a front terminal portion thereof, a tubular member constituting a front steering swivel socket, a pair of lugs for interconnecting the front terminal portions of the top and bottom members to the tubular member, a pair of stays interconnecting the rear assembly portion and the rear fork, and a spacer member extending between the rear assembly portion and the bottom member. The front terminal portions of the top and bottom members have constant, polygonal-shaped cross-sections. The length of the cycle frame can be readily set to a desired dimension by cutting the front terminal portions of the top and bottom member and the height of the cycle frame can be readily adjusted by cutting the tubular member, the pair of stays and the spacer member.

  • Patent number: 5408183
Abstract: The method of the invention consists in measuring remanent magnetization along a borehole drilled through a geological bed, in detecting the set of reversals in the remanent magnetization, in measuring the induced magnetization at the various levels in said bed, in detecting maxima in the induced magnetization, and in correlating these measurements with known dates, firstly of reversals in the earth's magnetic field and secondly of terrestrial phenomena that have given rise to concentrations of highly magnetic substances, thus making it possible to give dates to the various levels of the bed. The method is particularly applicable to oil prospecting.

  • Patent number: 5269551
Abstract: A cycle frame includes an upper tube joined at one end to a lower tube by a frontal part and joined at an opposing end to stays by a continuously formed connecting part. A front fork pivot housing is attached to a reduced thickness, core portion of the frontal part and a seat post housing, having a forked base, is secured to the connecting part. The core portion and the front fork pivot housing have complementary mating surfaces to enhance the structural integrity of the assembly. In a similar fashion, the connecting part includes a cut-out portion for receiving the forked base. The frame arrangement finds particular application in racing cycles and can be readily adapted for use with riders of varying sizes by utilizing front fork pivot and seat post housings of differing configurations.

  • Patent number: 5031444
Abstract: The invention provides a new method for the determination of the concentration of gas dissolved in a molten metal or metal matrix composite employing a new immersion head probe in apparatus employing the method. Such determinations are needed to facilitate removal of the gas, which can cause loss of desirable properties and/or bubbles in the solidified material and subsequent processing difficulties. This determination is particularly difficult with metals containing high concentrations of particulate additions, such as metal matrix composites, since it is necessary to avoid deposition of the particulates and consequent inaccurate readings. The method employs apparatus which circulates an inert carrier gas through the probe in gas exchange contact with the molten metal to entrain dissolved gas until an equilibrium mixture is obtained; the concentration of the dissolved gas in the mixture then is representative of its concentration in the molten metal.

Such determinations are needed to facilitate removal of the gas, which can cause bubbles in the solidified metal and subsequent processing difficulties. The apparatus circulates an inert carrier gas through the probe in gas exchange contact with the molten metal to entrain dissolved gas until an equilibrium mixture is obtained; the concentration of the dissolved gas in the mixture then is representative of its concentration in the molten metal. The head consists of a monolithic or integral body of a porous gas-permeable material of sufficient mechanical strength at the temperature of the molten metal and of sufficient porosity, pore size and permeability to permit the necessary gas diffusion in a reasonable period of time.
