  • Publication number: 20140092866
Abstract: Example embodiments presented herein are directed towards a wireless terminal and base station, and corresponding methods therein, for providing a handover for a subset of bearers associated with the wireless terminal. The subset of bearers is less than a total number of bearers associated with the wireless terminal. Thus, upon the completion of the handover procedure, at least one bearer will stay connected with a source base station.

  • Patent number: 8526960
Abstract: The present invention relates to a first node and a second node in a mobile telecommunication network. The network comprises a first node, a second node and a third node, wherein the first node is connectable to the second node and the second node is connectable to the first node and to the third node and the third node is connectable to the second node. A system function is realized by the execution of a master-process implemented in the first node and a slave-process implemented in the third node, wherein the execution of the master-process realizes a control function associated with the system function. The master-process of the first node is adapted to temporarily delegate the responsibility to realize the control function to a master-proxy-process implemented in the second node and the master-proxy-process implemented in the second node is adapted to take over the responsibility to realize the control function from the master-process of the first node.

  • Publication number: 20130065512
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and apparatuses for setting properties of a forwarding node. The forwarding node represents a relay or a repeater. The method includes establishing a connection for sending Direct Transfer messages between the forwarding node and a radio network node and sending to the radio network node a first Direct Transfer message. The first Direct Transfer message includes a relay indication, indicating to the radio network node that the first Direct Transfer message was sent from a forwarding node. The method also includes receiving from the radio network node a second Direct Transfer message, comprising setting information for setting properties of the forwarding node and setting the properties of the forwarding node based on the setting information.

  • Patent number: 8107951
Abstract: Upon reset of a control node (261) of a radio access network (24) which controls connections with user equipment units (30) in a connected mode, a message (102) indicative of the reset is sent between nodes of the radio access network. The message results from occurrence of a reset procedure (104) affecting the control node. The message includes an element which collectively indicates that a subset of the connections (i.e., not all of the connections) controlled by the control node are to be released. Inclusion in the message of the element, also known as the subset reset element, facilitates return to an idle mode of the user equipment units involved in the subset of the connections. By virtue of inclusion of the subset reset element, the message need not go to one extreme of listing individually each of the connections affected by the reset, nor to another extreme of specifying all connections controlled by the control node.

  • Publication number: 20100330959
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for handling UE capability information a mobile telecommunications network wherein an eNodeB (100) receives (60) information regarding the UE capability information from the UE (120) and stores (70) the information. The eNodeB (100) sends (80) the UE capability information to the EPC, i.e. the MME (130). The MME (130) receives and stores (90) the UE capability information. When the UE (120) transits from idle to active state, does an initial attach or when a part of the UE capabilities have changed, it sends (10) a message Ma to the eNodeB (100) regarding the update. The eNodeB (100) receives the message and sends (20) it to the MME (130). The MME (130) sends (30) a response associated with the previously stored UE capability information to the eNodeB (100). The eNodeB (100) decides (40) if the UE capabilities stored in the MME (130) is up-to-date based on the message sent from the UE (120) and the received response from the MME (130).

  • Patent number: 7756532
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for reestablishing wireless communication between a radio access network (RAN1) and a mobile station (MS1), an apparatus (RNC1) used for implementing the method as well as a radio access network (RAN1) including such an apparatus. A downlink radio failure affecting a first set of radio bearers (RB1, RB2) including at least two radio bearers (RB1, RB2) assigned for communicating user data between the radio access network (RAN1) and the mobile station (MS1) is detected. A second set of radio bearers (RB1) for communicating user data is defined, excluding the radio bearer (RB2) having the highest downlink bit rate in the first set of radio bearers (RB1, RB2). Communication reestablishment is initiated using the second set of radio bearers (RB1).

  • Patent number: 7453847
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for improved and efficient usage of radio network resources with regard to the transmission properties of applied communication channel types and total network load by means of using early indications on the uplink or downlink of requests to establish new communication connection or adjust parameter settings of already existing connections regading the expectable amount of additional traffic due to such a connection. Early indications are, e.g., information on protocol type, the kind of requested communication service, the profile of the user equipment that has sent the request, or traffic history. In response to such indications the inventive method can forward, e.g., an uplink request and at the same time initiate a channel type switching providing appropriate channel parameter settings or adjustments. In case of congestion control it is another possibility to delay or even suppress uplink requests.

  • Publication number: 20070165537
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for managing radio resources for providing wireless access to a communication system to a number of terminals. The communication system comprises a first access network (120) using a first access technology and at least one second access network (110) using at least one second access technology different to the first access technology. A listening agent (203) situated in at least the first access network (120) extracts access relevant information from existing messages within at least the first access network. The access relevant information is sent to an access selection manager (201) that compares the extracted access relevant information to access relevant information received from the at least one second access network (110) and determines which access network a terminal (130) should access based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 7089002
Abstract: An omnibus connection release message transmitted from a control node of radio access network is used to release plural radio connections, thereby obviating problems attending transmission of plural release messages. In accordance with a first example, a control node of the radio access network prepares the omnibus release message so that, when a first selected parameter thereof has a predetermined value, all radio connections controlled by the radio network control (RNC) node are released. The first selected parameter can be included in a mobile terminal global identity information element of the omnibus release message (e.g., in a Radio Network Temporary Identity (U-RNTI) information element of the omnibus release message, such as a Serving Radio Network Temporary Identity (S-RNTI) information element).

  • Patent number: 7076248
Abstract: An enhanced radio network controller (RNC) node of a radio access network stores context information for a user equipment unit which is in a Connected Mode, and initiates a cell update-prompting message which is transmitted the user equipment unit. The stored context information is used by the context-enhanced radio network controller (RNC) node for addressing the cell update-prompting message to the user equipment unit. After the user equipment unit (which is in its Connected Mode) performs the prompted cell update procedure, such user equipment unit (UE) can be paged with a conventional paging message. The invention with its context-enhanced radio network controller (RNC) node is particularly suitable to user equipment units which are in a critical state of the Connected Mode, such as (for example) either a CELL_PCH state or a URA_PCH state of the Connected Mode.

  • Patent number: 7068607
Abstract: An architecture for resource management of an IP-based cellular radio access network is presented. A measurement-based admission control scheme is used to monitor the load for each path in the network and QoS (quality of service) class and resource decisions are made based upon that information. A bandwidth broker is introduced in the cellular radio access network (RAN). The bandwidth broker processes the on-demand admission requests for IP resources by using the results of load control measurements. Since the requests can be processed very quickly using a simple table look-up, response times are fast, and the architecture is thus suitable for the cellular environment.
