  • Publication number: 20080018362
Abstract: A design for a wide input common mode voltage comparator is provided which reduces the delay between outputs from component comparators. The wide input common mode voltage comparator includes a first comparator configured to receive a differential input. The first comparator is further configured to accommodate high common mode voltages. The wide input common mode voltage comparator further includes a second comparator configured to receive the differential input. The first comparator is further configured to accommodate low common mode voltages. Additionally, the threshold voltages of the active devices within the comparator are between ?100 to 100 mV. Furthermore, the wide input common mode voltage comparator includes a summing circuit configured to receive the outputs of the first and second comparators to create a single-ended output.

  • Publication number: 20080002856
Abstract: A detection system fusing motion detection and object detection for various applications such as tracking, identification, and so forth. In an application framework, model information may be developed and used to reduce the false alarm rate. With a background model, motion likelihood for each pixel, for instance, of a surveillance image, may be acquired. With a target model, object likelihood for each pixel of the image may also be acquired. By joining these two likelihood distributions, detection accuracy may be significantly improved over the use of just one likelihood distribution for detection in applications such as tracking.

  • Publication number: 20070091995
Abstract: A decision feedback equalizer with dynamic feedback control for use in an adaptive signal equalizer. Timing within the decision feedback loop is dynamically controlled to optimize recovery of the data signal by the output signal slicer. The dynamic timing is controlled by a signal formed as a combination of feedback and feedforward signals. The feedback signal is an error signal related to a difference between pre-slicer and post-slicer signals. The feedforward signal is formed by differentiating and delaying the incoming data signal.

  • Patent number: 7206517
Abstract: A multi-wavelength optical signal copropagates through a fiber-optic communication link with a continuous-wave ancillary wavelength having an unknown state of polarization (SOP), which is scrambled periodically in time. The instantaneous value of polarization dependent loss (PDL) in the ancillary wavelength is monitored in real time, and is used as an error signal to adjust at least one polarization controller. Polarization scrambling is performed by periodically changing the SOP with time, such that the polarization-scrambled optical signal covers approximately an entire Poincaré sphere surface, preferably uniformly, during each time period. At an optical node between fibers, an adjustable PDL compensator contains two ordered pairs each consisting of one polarization controller and one optical element introducing fixed PDL.

  • Publication number: 20060245486
Abstract: A continuous time electronic dispersion compensation architecture using feed forward equalization and a non-linear decision feedback equalization forms an output signal by a linear combination of successively delayed versions of the input signal and the sliced output signal weighted by appropriate coefficients. A selected number of taps in the mixer used to generate a corresponding number of coefficients for use in the feed forward equalizer are held to a selected voltage to ensure that the coefficients associated with these two taps do not drift. This causes the other coefficients to converge to a unique minimum square error value. In one embodiment the selected voltage is the maximum system voltage.

  • Publication number: 20060153355
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for providing ring back tones in a communication network. At first, a ring back tone device for storing and playing the ring back tone customized by a subscriber is established in the communication network. Whether a subscriber is a ring back tone service register subscriber is judged with a certain triggering mode, such as intelligent network triggering, signaling interception triggering, call forwarding triggering or switching device triggering. If it is judged the subscriber is a ring back tone service registered subscriber, a connection between the originating switching device and the terminating switching device and a connection between a switching device and the ring back tone device are established. When the called terminal is idle, the ring back tone device provides a piece of customized ring back tone to the calling subscriber for replacing traditional ring back tone.

  • Patent number: 7016406
Abstract: Tap coefficients for fractionally-spaced equalizers are updated iteratively using error statistics from an input bit stream and an output bit stream, such as from a forward error correction circuit. The process continues until the errors converge to a sufficiently small number. Knowledge of the error patterns are used apriori to adaptively change the tap coefficients in a feedforward filter.

  • Publication number: 20050271138
Abstract: An apparatus and method for adaptively introducing a compensating signal latency related to a signal latency of a data symbol decision circuit. Adaptive timing control circuitry, including an interpolating mixer implemented as a tapped delay line with correlated tap coefficients, introduces a latency adaptively and substantially matching the latency of the data decision circuit for use within an adaptive equalizer, thereby minimizing the mean-squared error of such decision circuit. This adaptive latency is used in generating the feedback error signal which, in turn, can be used by the feedforward equalizer for dynamically adjusting its adaptive filter tap coefficients.
