  • Patent number: 7817816
Abstract: At least one image captured from a printed document and at least one image captured from a display surface other than a printed document are processed. A surface-type-identification module accepts as input both types of images and identifies, for a particular image, the type of surface from which the image was captured. A display-surface-preprocessing module preprocesses the at least one embedded-interaction-code image captured from a display surface other than a printed document. A printed-document-preprocessing module preprocesses the at least one embedded-interaction-code images captured from a printed document. An embedded-interaction-code-processing module outputs location information for at least one of the at least one image captured from a printed document and the at least one image captured from a display surface other than a printed document.

  • Patent number: 7787628
Abstract: A method of distributing a quantum key from a sender to a recipient. The recipient generates a pulse having multiple photons; splits the pulse into first and second sub-pulses; phase modulates the first sub-pulse with a secret key; and transmits both the phase-modulated first sub-pulse and the second sub-pulse to the sender. The sender receives the phase-modulated first sub-pulse and the second sub-pulse from the recipient; encodes a quantum key bit into one of the sub-pulses received from the recipient; and transmits both the phase-modulated first sub-pulse and the second sub-pulse back to the recipient. Then, the recipient receives the phase-modulated first sub-pulse and the second sub-pulse from the sender; phase modulates the second sub-pulse with the secret key; combines the phase-modulated first sub-pulse and the phase-modulated second sub-pulse to produce a composite pulse; and processes the composite pulse in an attempt to detect the quantum key bit.

  • Publication number: 20100208965
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention pertain to methods for imaging a light absorption coefficient distribution. Embodiments of the subject method can be implemented without knowing the strength of incident light in advance and without requiring careful calibrations in the non-scattering medium. Embodiments of the method can combine conventional photoacoustic tomography (PAT) with diffusing light measurements coupled with an optimization procedure based on the photon diffusion equation. Images of absorbing targets as small as 0.5 mm in diameter embedded in a 50 mm diameter background medium can be quantitatively recovered. Small targets with various optical contrast levels relative to the background can be detected well. Embodiments of the subject reconstruction method can include first obtaining the map of absorbed optical energy density.

  • Patent number: 7760623
Abstract: A computer network processes data packets in the event of a network link failure. The network includes a plurality of routers that deliver data packets to the network via a plurality of links. At least one router includes a protection cycle manager. The protection cycle manager has a protection cycle packet identifier and a protection cycle packet processor. The protection cycle packet identifier identifies, as protection cycle packets, data packets having a specific protection cycle format. The protection cycle packet processor processes protection cycle packets to determine whether the packet destination corresponds to the routing node, and if the packet destination corresponds to the routing node, the protection cycle packet is treated by the routing node as a data packet received from the packet source via the failed link. Otherwise, if the packet destination does not correspond to the routing node, the protection cycle packet is sent to a protection cycle node for the routing node.

  • Patent number: 7755619
Abstract: Systems and methods perform automatic 3D face modeling. In one implementation, a brief video clip of a user's head turning from front to side provides enough input for automatically achieving a model that includes 2D feature matches, 3D head pose, 3D face shape, and facial textures. The video clip of the user may be of poor quality. In a two layer iterative method, the video clip is divided into segments. Flow-based feature estimation and model-based feature refinement are applied recursively to each segment. Then the feature estimation and refinement are iteratively applied across all the segments. The entire modeling method is automatic and the two layer iterative method provides speed and efficiency, especially when sparse bundle adjustment is applied to boost efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20100169160
Abstract: Embodiments for recommending gifts to users for their gift recipients over a network are described. For example, a gift recommendation system may collect a set of historical transaction data of a plurality of transactions, and organize the set of historical transaction data based on information related to buyer gender, buyer age, item category, and transaction date of each transaction, in which the list of predetermined amount of gift categories are ordered based on an entire item purchase amount of each gift category. The gift recommendation system may retrieve gender and age information of a gift recipient, for example, via a graphical user interface, and then may automatically present to the user a list of predetermined amount of gift categories selected from the organized set of historical transaction data based on the gender and age information of the gift recipient.

  • Patent number: 7747988
Abstract: Described is a technology for analyzing usage of a software program's features. Software instrumentation data is collected during actual user program usage sessions. The collected data is then processed to determine various feature usage counts and other information, cross-feature usage (e.g., among users who use a feature, how many use another feature or program), and characteristics of feature users, e.g., how long, how much, how often and how extensive feature users use a program. Session analysis may be performed to provide information about the number of sessions in which a set of features occur. Feature usage trends over time may also be determined via analysis. A user interface is described for facilitating selection of one or more features to analyze, for facilitating selection of a group of users, and/or for outputting results corresponding to the analysis.

  • Patent number: 7739666
Abstract: Described is a technology by which software instrumentation data collected from user program sessions are analyzed, including by determining program usage metrics and/or command usage metrics. Information representative of the program usage metrics and/or the command usage metrics is output, such as in the form of a report. The software instrumentation data may be further analyzed, such as to determine at least one usage trend over time, and to determine user groups. For example, a usage subset of sessions that meet specified session usage criteria based on a set of session data may be located, along with a subset of users based on users whose sessions meet specified user criteria. The usage and user subsets may be combined via Boolean logic to produce a result set.

  • Publication number: 20100142367
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for non-access stratum (NAS) message processing during handover in an evolved network are provided. The method includes the following steps. An evolved packet core (EPC) receives a message which indicates that a UE is being handed over sent by a source evolved NodeB (S-eNB), and stops sending an NAS message to the UE temporarily. The EPC receives a message which indicates that the UE returns to an S-eNB service area sent by the S-eNB. The EPC sends the NAS message to the UE through the S-eNB, if needed. With the method and the apparatus, the EPC can acquire a location of the UE in time in the case of a handover failure of the UE, a time limit of a retransmission timer is set precisely, and a specific implementation for forwarding an NAS message through an X2 interface is provided.
