Patent number: 4923053Abstract: A mounting assembly is provided for supporting an elongated flexible member, such as an electrical signal cable, connected between relatively movable termination points, for example, between a stationary frame and a mobile carriage. The mounting assembly comprises one or more track units each including a guide channel having one side opening toward an adjacent, generally parallel roller-supported belt. The flexible member is anchored at a first termination point generally at a longitudinally centered position within the channel and extends along the channel before rolling back upon itself through a turn of 180 degrees to contact the belt, with the channel-belt spacing being less than twice a natural radius of curvature for the flexible member whereby the belt applies a force against the flexible member in the region of the turn. The flexible member extends from the curved loop along the belt and is secured thereto at a second termination point.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1987Date of Patent: May 8, 1990Assignee: Ampex CorporationInventor: Dale R. Patent number: 4909731Abstract: An improved flame holder based tunable pulse combustor, and a processing system employing same. The processing system is for thermal, chemical, and physical processes which employ natural acoustic modes in a processing chamber to enhance the processing. An acoustically resonant processing chamber is provided as the processing vessel. A frequency tunable pulse combustor comprising a flame holder is positioned to excite natural acoustic modes in the processing chamber. Material introduced into the processing chamber is thereby subjected to acoustic pulsations while the material is being processed. The acoustic excitations in the system result in improved moisture removal and particle heating. Patent number: 4813934Abstract: A catheter device for accessing an internal body site along a small-diameter vessel path containing branch points in which the path may follow either the larger of smaller-diameter branch vessels. The device includes a catheter having a distal-end inflatable ballon and a distal-end aperture. A guide wire in the device is designed to block the aperture at one or more axial wire positions, allowing the balloon to be inflated by fluid infusion into the catheter. In a catheter placement operation, the catheter is advanced along the vessel path toward the selected target site. When the leading end of the catheter encounters a branch point at which the path follows the larger-diameter vessel, the guide wire is moved to a position which blocks the catheter aperture, and fluid is infused into the catheter to inflate the balloon. The catheter is then carried by hydrodynamic flow into the larger-diameter vessel.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1987Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Assignee: Target TherapeuticsInventors: Erick T. Patent number: 4796066Abstract: A printer apparatus having two-sided printing capability is taught. Two printing mechanisms are provided that can simultaneously print both sides of roll paper. The printing mechanisms are physically oriented with respect to each other and to a simple paper handling/routing mechanism comprised of rollers so that when only one printing mechanism is installed to provide only one-sided printing, the paper handling mechanism need not be modified but the roll paper is merley routed differently around the rollers. Retroactively, a second printing mechanism may simply be installed in the printer for two-sided printing and the roll paper is routed around the rollers differently to route the roll paper to and from the second printing mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1987Date of Patent: January 3, 1989Assignee: Honeywell Bull Inc.Inventors: Scott S. Patent number: 4778697Abstract: This invention pertains to the use of polymer blends in making multiple layer films. In some layers, the elastomer or ethylene-based copolymer is blended with polypropylene, and in some layers, with polyethylene. Typical films have two to five layers. In multilayer films, at least one layer of a blend of polyethylene, preferably high density polyethylene, with elastomer and/or ethylene-based copolymers. Another layer is polypropylene blended with elastomers and/or ethylene-based copolymers. The films may have as few as two layers, one each having polypropylene and polyethylene, preferably high density polyethylene. Additional layers may be added to the two or three layer films taught herein, for variety of purposes.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1985Date of Patent: October 18, 1988Assignees: American National Can Company, Baxter Travenol Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Roger P. Patent number: 4689764Abstract: A word or text processing system has a bidirectional printer with formatting capability. A line of text is printed in one direction, and the printer is backspaced to form complex characters by adding overstrikes, such as underlining or accent marks. The formatting unit includes a storage mechanism for storing encoded space images, including variable width spaces, in a first scan pass. Space images overlapped by a backspace are deleted from the storage mechanism during the scan pass, and the number of spaces backspaced over is subtracted from the total count of expandable spaces available for justification. Upon detecting a space in the input data during the format pass, the system examines the space storage mechanism to determine if the image of the space is encoded therein. A space is expanded for line justification only if the space is encoded in the space storage mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1986Date of Patent: August 25, 1987Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Paul R. Daniels
