  • Patent number: 5415074
Abstract: The inbore sub-caliber device has spaced apart front and rear adapter plate members, each of which has an opening formed therethrough. A plurality of spaced apart rods extend between the front and rear adapter plate members to locate the openings in the front and rear adapter plate members in alignment. Support structure is coupled to the rear adapter plate. A gun comprising an elongated barrel and a rear receiver member is secured to the support structure. The barrel is supported in alignment with the openings in the front and rear plate members with at least a portion of the receiver located rearward of the rear plate member and the front end of the barrel located forward of the rear plate member to allow a bullet when fired to pass from the front end of the barrel by way of the opening of the front plate member.

  • Patent number: 5369202
Abstract: A process for the solventless polymerization of brominated styrenes includes blending monomers of brominated styrenes with a polymerization initiator, feeding the monomer/polymerization initiator mix into a prepolymerizer wherein the monomers begin to polymerize, and feeding the monomer/polymerization initiator mix and the partially polymerized bromostyrene into a screw-type extruder to drive the polymerization to a high degree of completion in a short period of time. • Patent number: 5368698
Abstract: A water distillation apparatus includes a cylindrical housing with a first cover thereon, a pair of spaced apart funnel-shaped partitions, a second cover on the uppermost partition and a skirt extending downwardly from the periphery of the cover and the uppermost partition to a location above the bottom of the housing, the partitions and skirt dividing the interior of the housing into an inlet reservoir chamber for cold water above the first partition, a lower boiling chamber beneath the second partition and an inclined condensation passage between the partitions. Cold water is introduced through a pipe and solenoid valve into the bottom of the reservoir chamber for overflow through an opening in the second cover into the boiling chamber. A heater in the boiling chamber heats the water to produce steam which rises, passing into the condensation passage and flowing downwardly to a central drain for discharge into a distilled water reservoir beneath the housing.

  • Patent number: 5340403
Abstract: A process for producing xylose from a ligno-cellulosic material comprising xylan-containing hemicellulose in which the ligno-cellulosic material is subjected initially to the three steps (1) hydrolysis to produce an aqueous xylose-containing medium and an insoluble residue; (2) separation of the insoluble residue from the medium; and (3) treatment of the medium to remove organic and/or inorganic nutrients therefrom. The medium is thereafter concentrated to a syrup having a water content in the range 20% to 40% by weight which is then mixed with ethanol and the xylose is separated from the ethanolic solution.

  • Patent number: 5328983
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the purification of brominated styrenic homo-polymers and co-polymers. The purification process reduces or removes contained aliphatic bromine, and free bromine resulting from the reaction of the brominated reagent with the polystyrene backbone. In addition, the method optionally removes occluded inorganic halide impurities from the polymer. These impurities are considered undesirable due to their adverse effects on thermal aging and stability of the final end use resin formulations.

  • Patent number: 5302186
Abstract: Pellets of iron ore or other water insoluble particulate material are made from a mixture of the particulate material, moisture and a pelletizing binder by forming moist green pellets, a water displacing additive is applied to the surface of these pellets after they are substantially wholly formed, and the pellets are then dried. The preferred water displacing additive is a solution of a silicone in an organic solvent.

  • Patent number: 5281889
Abstract: A reflector lamp has a glass reflector body and a separate neck body which mates with the reflector body. A light-source capsule is insertable into a bore of the reflector body from its base end. A positioning member holds the light-source capsule and is clamped between the neck and reflector bodies to secure the light-source capsule in the reflector body. The reflector and neck bodies have surfaces which cooperate with the positioning member to position the light source capsule at the focus of the reflector when the reflector body, capsule and positioning member, and neck body are stacked together.

  • Patent number: 5171781
Abstract: Water absorbent particulate polymers and their uses are described. Friable aggregates may be made by bonding substantially dry polymer particles with an aqueous liquid and drying the aggregates. These aggregates can be broken down to the individual polymer particles upon mixing with an aqueous medium and thus can have the flow properties of relatively coarse particles and the performance properties of relatively fine particles. They may be soluble nd used as flocculants or viscosifiers or binders for, for instance, iron ore pelletisation. Alternatively they may be swellable and insoluble, for instance for converting a sticky particulate mass (such as coal fines filter cake) to a crumbly solid.
