  • Patent number: 8136035
Abstract: A method of checking a new entry in a calendar application having a cache that includes a first subset of existing entries falling within a first date range. Also, an electronic device implementing the method. The method includes determining whether the date of the new entry falls within the first date range. If so, the method determines whether the new entry directly conflicts with or is adjacent to one of the existing entries in the first subset, and provides a notification if appropriate. If the date is outside the first date range, the method creates a new calendar cache including a second subset of existing entries falling within a second date range around the new entry date, determines whether the new calendar entry directly conflicts with or is adjacent to one of the existing calendar entries in the second subset, and provides a notification if appropriate.

  • Patent number: 8130871
Abstract: An integrated circuit includes a radio receiver for receiving a received radio signal having a plurality of channel signals, each of the plurality of channel signals being modulated at one of a corresponding plurality of carrier frequencies. The radio receiver converts a selected one of the plurality of channel signals into a demodulated signal. An interface clock generator generates a first interface clock at a first interface clock frequency that varies based on the selected one of the plurality of channel signals. The first interface clock frequency, and integer multiples of the first clock frequency are not substantially equal to the carrier frequency of the selected one of the plurality of channel signals. A driver module drives a device interface with a device based on the first interface clock.

  • Patent number: 8111757
Abstract: A first video signal processor (103) receives a first encoded video signal from which a video unit (201) generates a second encoded video signal, where the second encoded video signal is a reduced data rate version of the first encoded video signal. An error encoder (203) generates error redundancy data for the second encoded video signal and a multiplexer (207) generates output video data comprising the first encoded video signal and the error correcting data but not comprising the second encoded video signal. A second video processor (105) receives the output video data and a video unit (303) regenerates the second video signal from the first video signal. An error unit (305) detects errors for at least a first segment of the second video signal in response to the error redundancy data. A combiner (307) then generates combined video data by combining corresponding segments of the first encoded video signal and the second encoded video signal.

  • Publication number: 20110167124
Abstract: An enhanced email system incorporating mobile wireless communication devices includes program logic for efficiently managing (i.e., at least partially synchronizing) “messages sent” files in the mobile device and in a related message server. The exemplary program logic also more efficiently handles resending of previously sent email messages from the mobile wireless communication device (especially in the context of synchronized messages sent files) by sending to the message server only abbreviated unique message ID in the first instance. In this way, wireless bandwidth is conserved as is the device battery.

  • Publication number: 20110117553
Abstract: Provided are methods for amplifying a gene or RNA or sets thereof of interest using a tandem PCR process. The primers in the first PCR or set of PCR reactions are locus-specific. The primers in the second PCR or set of PCR reactions are specific for a sub-sequence of the locus-specific primers and completely consumed during the secondary PCR amplification. For RNA amplification, the first PCR is reverse transcription and the resulting cDNA(s) provide a template for cRNA synthesis, endpoint PCR or real time PCR. Also provided is a method of allelotyping a gene or set thereof by amplifying the gene(s) using tandem PCR on DNA or RNA comprising the sample, hybridizing the resulting amplicon or sets thereof to probes with sequences of gene-associated allele variations. A detectable signal indicating hybridization corresponds to an allelotype of the gene or a set of allelotypes for the set of genes.

  • Publication number: 20110097501
Abstract: Titanium-containing metal is extracted from its oxide(s) by way of a redox chemical reaction with a reducing metal. Specifically, an intimate mixture of the reducing metal and the titanium-containing oxide(s) is produced, in a preferred embodiment, by forming a metal-ceramic composite material featuring these two constituents. In a preferred embodiment, the composite body is made by infiltrating the reduced metal in molten form, into a permeable mass containing the titanium-bearing oxide(s). Concurrently or subsequent to infiltration, the redox reaction is carried out to transform the composite material, thereby forming a complex intimate mixture containing one or more oxides of the reducing metal, a titanium-containing metal, which could include an alloy of titanium with the reducing metal and/or one or more intermetallic compounds of titanium and the reducing metal, and possibly also some residual reducing metal, which itself possibly contains some titanium metal.
