  • Publication number: 20160348171
Abstract: Provided are methods for amplifying a gene or RNA or sets thereof of interest using a tandem PCR process. The primers in the first PCR or set of PCR reactions are locus-specific. The primers in the second PCR or set of PCR reactions are specific for a sub-sequence of the locus-specific primers and completely consumed during the second PCR amplification. For RNA amplification, the first PCR is reverse transcription and the resulting cDNA(s) provide a template for cRNA synthesis, endpoint PCR or real time PCR. Also provided is a tandem PCR method which accepts raw, completely unpurified mouthwash, cheek swabs and ORAGENE-stabilized saliva as the sample input, the resulting amplicons serving as the substrate for complex, microarray-based genetic testing. Also provided is a method of allelotyping a gene or set thereof by amplifying the gene(s) using tandem PCR on DNA or RNA comprising the sample.

  • Patent number: 9312899
Abstract: Radio frequency (RF) receivers having whitened digital frame processing and related methods are disclosed. Disclosed embodiments whiten frequency domain interference generated periodic current pulses from by digital frame processing by applying a variable time delay to the frame control signals that initiate digital frame processing. For one embodiment, the variable time delay is achieved by waiting a variable number of digital clock cycles for each digital frame processing cycle. Still further, a variable number of no operation (NO-OP) cycles can be performed at the beginning of each frame processing cycle to provide the variable time delay for the variable number of digital clock cycles. Other variable time delay techniques could also be utilized while still taking advantage of the whitened digital frame processing embodiments described herein.

  • Publication number: 20160031720
Abstract: A roll-up water bottle comprises a hollow cylindrical opening adjacent one end thereof. The opening retains a removable closure/filter assembly. That assembly includes a filter retained within a bottle cap. The cap is positioned within a bottle opening support member retained within the hollow cylindrical opening. The filter housing is generally cylindrical but also includes an outer profile that includes a pair of opposed flat walls. When the filter is secured within the bottle cap and the cap secured within the bottle opening support member, a pair of water flow channels are created. Upon the user applying suction or pressure from squeezing the bottle, water contained with the bottle flows through vent openings in the filter, but also up through the water flow channels. The result is a more even distribution of fluid across a greater portion of the filter.

  • Patent number: 9172344
Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) signal is received in a receiver, and various counts based on information from the signal can be obtained. Counts of a number of samples of the RF signal exceeding first and second thresholds can be accumulated during an accumulation window. From the first of these counts, it can be determined if the count exceeds a first metric corresponding to a first predetermined count value, and if so, a gain of an RF gain element can be reduced. From the second of these counts it can be determined if this count exceeds a second metric corresponding to a second predetermined count value, and if not, the gain can be increased.

  • Patent number: 9124334
Abstract: In one embodiment, a receiver front end circuit can receive and process multiple radio frequency (RF) signals and output downconverted signals corresponding to these signals. In turn, multiple signal processors can be coupled to this front end. Specifically, a first signal processor can receive and process the downconverted signals to output a first signal obtained from content of a first RF signal, and a second signal processor can receive and process the downconverted signals to output a second signal obtained from content of a second RF signal. In addition, the apparatus may include a detection circuit coupled to the receiver front end circuit to detect presence of at least the second signal and enable the second signal processor responsive to the detected presence.

  • Publication number: 20150242950
Abstract: A method of facilitating trades of mismatch swaps including receiving trade data characterization a plurality of swap trades. Mismatches in at least two of the swap trades are identified and the mismatches are communicated to a plurality of traders. Offsetting mismatches may be identified and communicated to the plurality of traders also. The method may also include receiving offsetting mismatch trade requests from traders and communicating the offsetting mismatch trade requests to a clearinghouse. Identifying the offsetting mismatches may include determining a date gap between standard tenor instruments. And, the method may include determining whether the date gap is within a range of dates selected by a trader. The date gap will likely, in this instance, not be a benchmark tenor.

  • Patent number: 9047592
Abstract: A method of checking a new entry in a calendar application having a cache that includes a first subset of existing entries falling within a first date range. Also, an electronic device implementing the method. The method includes determining whether the date of the new entry falls within the first date range. If so, the method determines whether the new entry directly conflicts with or is adjacent to one of the existing entries in the first subset, and provides a notification if appropriate. If the date is outside the first date range, the method creates a new calendar cache including a second subset of existing entries falling within a second date range around the new entry date, determines whether the new calendar entry directly conflicts with or is adjacent to one of the existing calendar entries in the second subset, and provides a notification if appropriate.

  • Patent number: 9042499
Abstract: Radio frequency (RF) receivers having whitened digital clocks and related methods are disclosed. Disclosed embodiments generate whitened clocks having random variations that are used to operate digital processing blocks so that interference created by the whitened clocks is seen as white noise within the received RF signal spectrum. RF input signals are received by RF front-ends (RFFEs) that output analog signals associated with channels within the RF input signals. These analog signals are converted to digital information and processed by digital receive path circuitry that outputs digital data associated with the channel. The digital receive path circuitry includes a whitened clock generator that generates a whitened clock having random variations and which a digital processing block that operates based upon the whitened clock. Further, the RFFE and the digital receive path circuitry are located within a single integrated circuit.

  • Patent number: 9043228
Abstract: An e-commerce outsourcing system and method provides hosts with transparent, context-sensitive e-commerce supported pages. The look and feel of a target host is captured for future use. The host is provided with one or more links for inclusion within a page on the host website that correlates with a selected commerce object, which may be contextually related to material in the page. The commerce object can be a product, a product category, or a dynamic selection indicator. Upon activation of the provided link, a visitor computer is served with a page with the look and feel of the host website and with content based upon the associated commerce object. Where the commerce object is a dynamic selection indicator, the content is selected at the time of activation based upon an analysis of the page containing the activated link.

  • Publication number: 20150127313
Abstract: A method of determining a presence and location of a subsurface hydrocarbon accumulation from a sample of naturally occurring substance. An expected concentration of isotopologues of a hydrocarbon species is determined. An expected temperature dependence of isotopologues present in the sample is modeled using high-level ab initio calculations. A clumped isotopic signature of the isotopologues present in the sample is measured. The clumped isotopic signature is compared with the expected concentration of isotopologues. Using the comparison, it is determined whether hydrocarbons present in the sample originate directly from a source rock or whether the hydrocarbons present in the sample have escaped from a subsurface accumulation. The current equilibrium storage temperature of the hydrocarbon species in the subsurface accumulation prior to escape to the surface is determined. A location of the subsurface accumulation is determined.
