  • Publication number: 20140345430
Abstract: A tool for cutting a tie wrap bound about a wire bundle. The tool includes a body portion having a generally disc-shaped cutter and cutting edge. A shield covers one side of the cutter and defines first and second shield slots in communication with the cutting edge. A housing pivotally connected to the body portion covers the other side of the cutter and defines first and second housing slots that communicate with the cutting edge. The housing pivots between first, second, and third positions. In the first position, the first housing slot communicates with the first shield slot to expose the cutting edge for cutting purposes. In the second position, the first housing slot is out of communication with the first shield slot, thereby covering the cutting edge. And, in the third position, the second housing slot communicates with the second shield slot to expose the cutting edge.

  • Publication number: 20140322414
Abstract: Pasta filata cheese, such as mozzarella and provolone, is molded and chilled by delivering the warm, plastic cheese through a cheese inlet port into a plurality of molds at an inlet station. A fluid, such as chilled water, is circulated around the molds to cool the pasta filata cheese therein. After cooling to some degree, force is applied to the upper surface of the cheese in each mold to prevent a depression from forming in that surface. Thereafter upon cooling for a desired amount, the pasta filata cheese is ejected from the plurality of molds at an outlet station.

  • Publication number: 20140215251
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates reducing static power consumption of a processor. During operation, the system receives a signal indicating that instruction execution within the processor is to be temporarily halted. In response to this signal, the system halts an instruction-processing portion of the processor, and reduces the voltage supplied to the instruction-processing portion of the processor. Full voltage is maintained to a remaining portion of the processor, so that the remaining portion of the processor can continue to operate while the instruction-processing portion of the processor is in reduced power mode.

  • Patent number: 8755010
Abstract: An electronic device may have a display such as a liquid crystal display. The display may have multiple layers of material such as a color filter layer and a thin-film transistor layer. An opaque masking layer may be formed on a display layer such as the color filter layer. In an inactive portion of the display, the opaque masking layer may form a rectangular ring that serves as a border region surrounding a rectangular active portion of the display. In the active portion of the display, the opaque masking layer may be patterned to from an opaque matrix that separates color filter elements in an array of color filter elements. The opaque masking layer and color filter elements may be formed from polymers such as photoresist. The opaque masking layer may include a black pigment such as carbon black. Color filter elements and opaque masking material may include multiple sublayers.

  • Publication number: 20140162849
Abstract: A training and exercise device is provided to aid in proper positioning, technique, and muscle memory for different sports and exercise related activities. The training device includes a cylindrical barrel member. A sled or sleds are connected to the barrel member such that rotation and movement of the barrel member will in turn move the sled or sleds. The sleds are bi-directional such that they are able to move in both forward and rear directions, which will allow the training device to be used in multiple directions without having to reorient the entire device between exercises. The barrel device, sled or sleds may also be configured to adjust the weights thereof to increase or decrease the resistance of the movement of the training device to accommodate for different user's size, abilities, and intended outcome.

  • Patent number: 8748219
Abstract: The disclosed device is a solid state organic semiconductor VCSEL in which the microcavity is composed of metal and dielectric mirrors and the gain layer is only ?/2n thick. The gain layer comprises a thermally evaporated 156.7 nm thick film of the laser dye DCM doped (2.5% v/v) into an Alq3 host matrix. The microcavity consists of 2 mirrors, a dielectric Bragg reflector (DBR) sputter-coated onto a quartz substrate as the mirror through which the organic gain layer is optically excited and laser emission is collected and a silver mirror that is thermally evaporated on top of the Alq3:DCM film. The device exhibits laser action from the DCM both when the DCM molecules are excited directly at 535 nm and via Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) from the Alq3 (excited at 404 nm) with laser thresholds of 4.9 ?J/cm2 and 14.2 ?J/cm2 respectively.

  • Patent number: RE45104
Abstract: The invention facilitates optical signals generated from customer premise equipment (CPE) at the edges of the metro domain networks. The CPEs are connected to extension terminals that transform the optical signal originating at the CPE into a suitable format for long haul transmission. The optical signal then propagates to a primary terminal where the signal is multiplexed with other optical signals from other extension terminals. The multiplexed signals are then transmitted over LH or ULH network to a second primary terminal where the signal is then demultiplexed from other optical signals and transmited to the proper extension terminal. At the extension terminal, the demultiplexed optical signal is transformed from its LH format back into a format suitable for interconnection to a CPE. Using this architecture, the signal under goes optical-to-electrical conversion only at the extension terminals or end points. These end points can be located in lessee's facility.
