  • Publication number: 20170277311
Abstract: User input that is part of a user interaction with a computing device is received by a system module. The system module notifies the application of the user input, and the application determines whether the application is to handle the user interaction or the whether the operating system is to handle the user interaction. For user interactions that the operating system is to handle, the application notifies the operating system to handle the user interaction. For the duration of the user interaction, the operating system then determines what changes to make to a display of data based on the user interaction and need not (and typically does not) notify the application of the user input. Thus, the application hands off the user interaction to the operating system.

  • Publication number: 20170278291
Abstract: Animations are displayed on a user interface (UI) of a computing device using one of multiple different animation system modes, each animation system mode operating in a different manner to determine how to change the display for an animation. The animation can be on a particular object that is displayed by the computing device (e.g., scrolling a list, moving an icon or character from one location to another) and/or can be on the display as a whole (e.g., panning or scrolling a view of the whole display). The multi-mode animation system operates to select an animation system mode on a frame by frame basis. For each frame of content being displayed on the display device, the multi-mode animation system selects an appropriate one of the animation system modes to use for generating the content of that frame.

  • Publication number: 20170137851
Abstract: The present inventors have surprisingly discovered that phytic acid tenaciously precipitates with soluble metals in food or fuel ethanol-processing fluid, producing insoluble organometallic salt deposit or scale on the processing equipment that must be removed in order to facilitate further ethanol processing. The present invention relates to converting phytic acid salts or phytates to inorganic phosphates to improve metal solubility and reduce deposition within processing equipment.

  • Publication number: 20170091988
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for displaying a graphical element in a manner that simulates three-dimensional (3D) visibility (including parallax and shadowing). More particularly, a number of images, each captured with a known spatial relationship to a target 3D object, may be used to construct a lighting model of the target object. In one embodiment, for example, polynomial texture maps (PTM) using spherical or hemispherical harmonics may be used to do this. Using PTM techniques a relatively small number of basis images may be identified. When the target object is to be displayed, orientation information may be used to generate a combination of the basis images so as to simulate the 3D presentation of the target object.

  • Publication number: 20170057107
Abstract: A tool for cutting a tie wrap bound about a wire bundle. The tool includes a body portion having a generally disc-shaped cutter and cutting edge. A shield covers one side of the cutter and defines first and second shield slots in communication with the cutting edge. A housing pivotally connected to the body portion covers the other side of the cutter and defines first and second housing slots that communicate with the cutting edge. The housing pivots between first, second, and third positions. In the first position, the first housing slot communicates with the first shield slot to expose the cutting edge for cutting purposes. In the second position, the first housing slot is out of communication with the first shield slot, thereby covering the cutting edge. And, in the third position, the second housing slot communicates with the second shield slot to expose the cutting edge.

  • Publication number: 20170060229
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates reducing static power consumption of a processor. During operation, the system receives a signal indicating that instruction execution within the processor is to be temporarily halted. In response to this signal, the system halts an instruction-processing portion of the processor, and reduces the voltage supplied to the instruction-processing portion of the processor. Full voltage is maintained to a remaining portion of the processor, so that the remaining portion of the processor can continue to operate while the instruction-processing portion of the processor is in reduced power mode.
