  • Patent number: 6802299
Abstract: A control system and a control method for an internal combustion engine have a cylinder including an intake valve and an exhaust valve with a fully variable valve-gear assembly. An engine control unit determines setpoint values with regard to a fresh gas charge, an internal residual gas charge, a torque reduction, an EGR control strategy, and a charging strategy. In addition, a transmission device is provided which transmits setpoint values determined by the engine control unit to a valve control unit in synchronization with the crankshaft angle. The valve control unit controls the fully variable valve-gear assembly of the intake and exhaust valve of the cylinder of the internal combustion engine on the basis of the setpoint values determined by the engine control unit.

  • Patent number: 6752116
Abstract: A connection between two shaft ends situated coaxially one behind the other, of a gas exchange valve of an internal combustion engine and a piston rod of a valve actuator is provided, where at least one coupling member at least partially surrounds the shaft ends. The coupling member is radially compressed with respect to the two shaft ends by at least one compressing member to produce static friction locking between each shaft end and the coupling member that transfers the actuating motion of valve actuator to gas exchange valve in a slip-free manner. As a result, the fatigue strength of the connection may be increased and its assembly and disassembly may be simplified.

  • Publication number: 20040099094
Abstract: Apparatus and process for producing a fixed bed in a metallurgical unit, preferably for producing pig iron or primary steel products from iron-containing charge materials, in particular in a melted gasifier, in which a lumpy bulk material, which contains ore-containing and carbon-containing constituents, prereduced iron ore, preferably sponge iron, and preferably lumpy, coal, is charged onto a surface. Through mixing of the ore-containing constituent with the carbon-containing constituent of the bulk material takes place. The entire ore-containing constituent is charged onto an active circumferential or peripheral region of the fixed bed, at which the thorough, preferably uniform mixing of the ore-containing constituent with the carbon-containing constituent of the bulk material takes place preferably outward of the center. A device scatters the stream of bulk material aver the surface and less of the material is scattered at the center, so that heavier grain lumps segregate themselves toward the center.

  • Publication number: 20040069255
Abstract: An electrohydraulic valve control (10) of an internal combustion engine includes at least one actuator (24) that acts on a gas exchange valve (38). This actuator (24) in turn has at least one working chamber (30), which in order to switch the actuator (24) from a first position into a second position, is connected to a high-pressure hydraulic accumulator (16) and shut off from a low-pressure return (56). In order to switch the actuator (24) from the second position back into the first position, the working chamber (30) is connected to the low-pressure return (56) and shut off from the high-pressure hydraulic accumulator (16). The pressure in the high-pressure hydraulic accumulator (16) is kept constant or reduced in a simple manner by virtue of the working chamber (30) being connected to the high-pressure hydraulic accumulator (16) and the low-pressure return (56) at the same time.
