  • Publication number: 20020189581
Abstract: A method and a device for operating an internal combustion engine including a plurality of cylinders, determine whether a torque of the internal combustion engine is above a torque threshold value. If the torque is less than the torque threshold value, all the cylinders of the engine are operated in a lean operating state. If the torque is greater than or equal to the torque threshold value, a first number of cylinders of the engine is operated in a homogeneous operating state, and the remaining cylinders of the engine are operated in the lean operating state.

  • Publication number: 20020166539
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling a gas fill of a plurality of cylinders in an internal combustion engine having variable valve timing, in which a detection signal of a filling sensor is sampled with a sampling rate. Furthermore, a detection interval is determined for one cylinder. The sampling values for ascertaining a sampling-value sum are added up within this detection interval. In addition, a number of sampling values within the first detection interval are counted for ascertaining a first count value. The air mass filled into the first cylinder is then ascertained by forming a quotient from the sampling-value sum and the count value.

  • Publication number: 20020157650
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a circuit system for operating a solenoid valve (MV), particularly for actuating an electrohydraulic gas-exchange valve control, an injection valve, or an intake or exhaust valve of an internal combustion engine. To permit the simplest possible driving of the solenoid valve (MV), it is proposed that the solenoid valve (MV) be acted upon in a controlled manner in a cycle including three phases, in which in a pull-up phase, the solenoid valve (MV) is connected for a predefined time duration (T—1) to a first voltage (U—1) of predetermined magnitude for generating a pull-up current, in a holding phase is connected to a second voltage (U—2) of predetermined magnitude for generating a holding current, and in a de-energize phase is separated from both voltages (U—1, U—2).

  • Patent number: 6433539
Abstract: The angular position detection device for the angular position of a rotatable part includes a transducer wheel rigidly connected with the rotatable part, an increment transducer and an absolute angle transducer arranged for simultaneous detection of the angular position of the transducer wheel and a control device including a computing unit and a monitoring module. Signals from both transducers that are characteristic of the rotational position of the transducer wheel are simultaneously fed to both the computing unit and the monitoring module. A redundant method of reliably ascertaining the rotational position of the rotatable part without periodic resynchronization of the increment transducer is also described.

  • Publication number: 20020092500
Abstract: A method and a device for modifying a torque of an internal combustion engine including at least one first cylinder with an exhaust valve including a variable valve control, in which it is determined whether there is a demand for modifying the torque within a first working cycle of the at least one mfirst cylinder, and the basic triggering of the exhaust valve of the first cylinder is modified in the first working cycle when it is determined that it is necessary to modify the torque during the first working cycle.

  • Patent number: 6321703
Abstract: A device for controlling a gas exchange valve for internal combustion engines, having a housing including an axially movable valve member, which on an end close to the combustion chamber, has a valve sealing face that cooperates with a valve seat affixed to the housing and on an end remote from the combustion chamber, has a piston that axially separates upper and lower hydraulic working chambers from each other. The lower working chamber closer to the combustion chamber acts on the valve member in the closing direction and the upper working chamber further from the combustion chamber acts on the valve member in the opening direction. The lower working chamber continuously communicates with a high pressure source and the upper working chamber can be alternatingly filled with high pressure by way of a high pressure supply line containing an electric control valve. The upper working chamber is discharged by way of a discharge line that contains an electric control valve.

  • Patent number: 6321702
Abstract: A system for controlling a gas exchange valve for internal combustion engines, comprising a movable valve member in a housing which, on an end close to the combustion chamber, has a valve sealing face that cooperate with a valve seat in order to control an inlet or outlet cross section at the combustion chamber of the engine. On an end remote from the combustion chamber a working piston defines at least one hydraulic working chamber, whose alternating filling and discharging with a pressure fluid can be used to move the valve member in the opening and closing direction. The supply pressure of the pressure fluid supplied for the actuation of the gas exchange valve member is adjusted step wise as a function of current operating parameters of the engine.
