  • Publication number: 20140022973
Abstract: A first network device including a control module to operate the first network device, prior to beginning discovery of a second network device, initially in a power save mode and subsequently in a normal mode after receiving an input from a user of the first network device while operating in the power save mode; and prior to beginning the discovery and subsequent to the first network device switching from operating in the power save mode to the normal mode, to alternately operate the first network device as a client station and an access point. A device detection module begins, subsequent to the first network device switching from operating in the power save mode to the normal mode, the discovery by scanning a network or by transmitting a beacon over the network when the first network device operates as a client station or an the access point, respectively.

  • Patent number: 8619753
Abstract: Systems and methods for service period recovery in a wireless communications system are provided. An initial service period for transmitting data is assigned to a first remote station. Data period schedule information, including the assignment of the initial service period, is transmitted from a central station. In response to determining that the first remote station is not transmitting during the initial service period, a modified service period is assigned to the first remote station. A service period change announcement, including the assignment of the modified service period, is transmitted from the central station. In response to determining that the first remote station is not transmitting during the modified service period, the initial service period is truncated and a service period truncation is transmitted from the central station.

  • Publication number: 20130329718
Abstract: Training data for a first training session is generated to include a first data unit, the first data unit having a field that specifies a first number of beamforming training data units that can be communicated during a second training session to occur after the first training session. The training data including the first data unit is transmitted to a second device during the first training session. A second data unit received from the second device is processed to determine whether a request for the second device to participate in the second training session was accepted by the second device based on a first field of the second data unit. In response to determining that the request to participate in the second training session was accepted by the second device, the first number of beamforming training data units are transmitted during the second training session.

  • Patent number: 8606263
Abstract: A network interface including a radio frequency (RF) system and a media access controller (MAC). The RF system wirelessly communicates with an access point (AP). The MAC includes client modules. A first client module transmits a first signal from a host to the AP via the RF system in accordance with a first wireless communication standard. A second client module transmits a second signal from the host to the AP via the RF system in accordance with a second wireless communication standard. The second client module determines a quality level of the second signal transmitted from the second client module to the AP, and based on the quality level of the second signal, hands off access to the RF system from the second client module to the first client module to allow the first client module to transmit the first signal to the AP via the RF system.

  • Patent number: 8570898
Abstract: In a peer-to-peer wireless communication network, a first device listens during an advertise state for polling signals from second devices on a first channel included in a plurality of channels. During the advertise state a response to a first polling signal transmitted by one of the second devices on the first channel is transmitted from the first device, if the first polling signal is received on the first channel during the advertise state. A second channel is selected at the first device from the plurality of channels for use during a search state of the first device. A second polling signal is transmitted with the first device, on the selected second channel during the search state. The first device listens during the search state for polling response signals on the selected second channel, the polling response signals responsive to the second polling signal.

  • Publication number: 20130279388
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a method for sharing power load in a network. The method includes identifying a first device to serve as an AP of the network in a next time interval, providing network information from a second device that presently serves as the AP to the first device. When the first device starts to serve as the AP of the network, the second device can be configured to enter into a power save state in order to reduce power consumption by the second device in the next time interval.

  • Patent number: 8565183
Abstract: A network device including a first transceiver, a second transceiver, and a control module. The first transceiver communicates with a first network device on a first channel using a first wireless communication standard. The second transceiver communicates with a second network device on a second channel using a second wireless communication standard. The control module determines whether there is interference between the first and second channels, selects a third channel if there is interference, and transmits a request signal to the second network device. The request signal requests changing the second channel to the third channel. The control module receives an accept signal from the second network device indicating permission to change the second channel to the third channel. In response to the accept signal, the control module increases separation between transmission frequencies of the first and second transceivers by changing the second channel to the third channel.

  • Patent number: 8560848
Abstract: A system including a temporal key module, a nonce module, a security module, and an encryption module. The temporal key module generates a first temporal key used to encrypt a plurality of packets. The nonce module generates a nonce for each packet encrypted based on the first temporal key. Each nonce includes a packet number that is different than packet numbers associated with other nonces generated by the nonce module. The packet number is greater than N bits in length, where N is an integer greater than 40. The security module determines when the packet number included in the nonce generated by the nonce module is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold. The encryption module encrypts more than 2(N?1) packets using the first temporal key and the nonces without reusing a value of the packet number.

  • Publication number: 20130259017
Abstract: In a method for generating a data unit conforming to a first communication protocol, a first field and a second field to be included in a preamble of the data unit are generated. The first field includes a first set of one or more information bits that indicate a duration of the data unit and is formatted such that the first field allows a receiver device that conforms to a second communication protocol to determine the duration of the data unit. The second field includes a second set of one or more information bits that indicate to a receiver device that conforms to the first communication protocol that the data unit conforms to the first communication protocol. The first field and the second field are modulated using a modulation scheme specified for a field corresponding to the first field and the second field, respectively, by the second communication protocol.
