  • Patent number: 8964721
Abstract: Systems and methods for service period recovery in a wireless communications system are provided. An initial service period for transmitting data is assigned to a first remote station. Data period schedule information, including the assignment of the initial service period, is transmitted from a central station. In response to determining that the first remote station is not transmitting during the initial service period, a modified service period is assigned to the first remote station. A service period change announcement, including the assignment of the modified service period, is transmitted from the central station. In response to determining that the first remote station is not transmitting during the modified service period, the initial service period is truncated and a service period truncation is transmitted from the central station.

  • Patent number: 8923847
Abstract: A network interface including a radio frequency system with a component configured for communication with an access point. First, second and third client modules communicate with the access point according to respective wireless communication standards. The first, second and third client modules share the component, such that during respective periods the first, second and third client modules communicate with the access point via the component. The first client module transmits a request signal to the second client module while the second client module is in an idle state and the third client module is in an active state. The request signal requests access to the component. The third client module, in response to the request signal, aborts transmitting of first data to the access point and transmits an acknowledgement signal. The first client module transmits to or receives from the access point second data based on the acknowledgement signal.

Abstract: In a communication system that utilizes at least a primary channel, a secondary channel, and a tertiary channel, a primary channel signal level in the primary channel is measured, and a secondary channel signal level in the secondary channel is measured. A first tertiary channel signal level in a first bandwidth portion of the tertiary channel is measured, and a second tertiary channel signal level in a second bandwidth portion of the tertiary channel is measured. It is determined whether the primary channel is idle based on the primary channel signal level, and it is determined whether the secondary channel is idle based on the secondary channel signal level. It is determined whether the tertiary channel is idle based on the first tertiary channel signal level and the second tertiary channel signal level. It is determined whether a valid signal is received via a first composite channel including the primary channel, the secondary channel, and the tertiary channel.

  • Patent number: 8923217
Abstract: The present disclosure includes systems and techniques relating to wireless communications. A described system, for example, includes a device configured to transmit signals, in a frequency band, to the wireless communication devices. The signals can include spatially steered first signals that concurrently provide data to the wireless communication devices. The signals can include one or more second signals to the wireless communication devices to control transmission of responses from the wireless communication devices in the frequency band. The device can monitor for the responses in the frequency band. The device can control, based on a lack of reception of an expected response, a transmission of a third signal in the frequency band to prevent a transmission from another wireless communication device different than the wireless communication devices. The third signal can include information to reschedule a transmission of a response from a wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20140376418
Abstract: Embodiments of this invention describe a method to reduce the effective inter carrier spacing between the sub-carriers of wireless, wired or optical transmissions and thereby increase the spectral efficiency of the communication system. Signal transmitted from multiple transmit chains are shifted in frequency at the transmitter. At the receiver a plurality of receive chains is used, the received signals are similarly shifted in frequency and used to reduce the inter carrier interference. Embodiments also describe a method for Full Duplex communication where the transmitters transmit using different frequency shifts. The receiver receives the transmitted signal and an echo of it's transmission. As the received transmission is shifted in frequency from it's transmission, it can cancel out the echo and receive the intended signal.

  • Publication number: 20140376754
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and manufacture for audio transmission is provided. A head-related transfer function (HRTF) profile most accurate for a user is selected from several HRTF profiles. The HFTF is selected by: wirelessly transmitting test signals to binaural headphones, then receiving feedback from the user, and then selecting the HRTF profile based on the feedback. Subsequently, the selected HRTF profile is employed to convert a multi-channel audio signal into a stereo signal such that the stereo signal retains the immersive and spatial audio characteristics of the multi-channel audio signal. Next, the stereo signal is wirelessly transmitted to the binaural headphones.
