  • Publication number: 20140189248
Abstract: Miss rate curves are constructed in a resource-efficient manner so that they can be constructed and memory management decisions can be made while the workloads are running. The resource-efficient technique includes the steps of selecting a subset of memory pages for the workload, maintaining a least recently used (LRU) data structure for the selected memory pages, detecting accesses to the selected memory pages and updating the LRU data structure in response to the detected accesses, and generating data for constructing a miss-rate curve for the workload using the LRU data structure. After a memory page is accessed, the memory page may be left untraced for a period of time, after which the memory page is retraced.

  • Publication number: 20140188562
Abstract: System and method for transaction based pricing are described. The method comprises defining one or more transactions which include at least one sub-process. Further, units per transaction for each of the at least one sub-process is identified based on requirement data. Thereafter, a process complexity is assigned to the each of the at least one sub-process based on a complexity score computed for the each of the at least one sub-process. Further, a processing time is obtained for the each of the at least one sub-process based on the process complexity assigned to the each of the at least one sub-process. Further, estimated efforts for performing the one or more transactions are ascertained based on the processing time obtained for the each of the at least one sub-process. Furthermore, pricing for each of the one or more transactions is identified based on the estimated efforts.

  • Publication number: 20140181799
Abstract: A firmware upgrade computer system includes a bank select switch that generates a bank select signal. The system further includes a bank module that includes a first firmware code and a second bank module that includes a second firmware code. The system also includes a control module that determines whether the first bank module and the second bank module is a selected bank based on the bank select signal. The control module determines whether the first bank module and the second bank module is a nonselected bank based on the bank select signal. The control module selectively instructs the selected bank to communicate one of the first firmware code and the second firmware code to the nonselected bank. The system also includes a storage module that stores a selected bank value indicative of the selected bank.

  • Publication number: 20140181377
Abstract: Described is a technique for managing the content of a nonvolatile solid-state memory data cache to improve cache performance while at the same time, and in a complementary manner, providing for automatic wear leveling. A modified circular first-in first-out (FIFO) log/algorithm is generally used to determine cache content replacement. The algorithm is used as the default mechanism for determining cache content to be replaced when the cache is full but is subject to modification in some instances. In particular, data are categorized according to different data classes prior to being written to the cache, based on usage. Once cached, data belonging to certain classes are treated differently than the circular FIFO replacement algorithm would dictate. Further, data belonging to each class are localized to designated regions within the cache.

  • Publication number: 20140181691
Abstract: Private information can be collected from a receiving computing device user via a requesting computing device sharing selected content presented on a requesting device display with the receiving device. Communication between the devices can be secure, peer-to-peer and can be established using Near Field Communication technologies. The selected content comprises data fields for which a receiving device user supplies data values. The requesting computing device can update the presented selected content based on the received receiving user input and send updated display information to the receiving device. Alternatively, the receiving device can send data fields to the requesting device as data fields are fully entered. The selected content shared with and the data values received from the mobile device can be translated into other languages. Cloud resources can be involved in the pairing and authentication of devices, the translation of data sent between devices and the communication of data between devices.

  • Publication number: 20140181398
Abstract: A method processes input-output commands (IOs) in a storage system. The storage system receives an IO including first and second identifiers. The first identifier is used to direct the IO to the storage system. At the storage system, the method retrieves the second identifier from the IO and translates the second identifier to a logical storage volume identifier. Then, the method executes the IO on storage locations referenced by a logical storage volume corresponding to the logical storage volume identifier.
