  • Publication number: 20140165227
Abstract: Cytochrome b5 (Cb5) is a haem-binding protein located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the outer mitochondrial membranes of higher eukaryotes. In higher plants, animals, and fungi, the ER resident Cb5 has been shown to play a role in desaturation of acyl CoA fatty acids. Higher plants Cb5 isoforms from plants such as soybean or Arabidopsis are capable of modulating omega-3 desaturation. Co-expression of certain Cb5 isoforms with FAD3 in a host plant results in increased production of seed oil content as well as altered ratio between different fatty acids. It is also disclosed here that overexpression of Yarrowia ACL enzymes in the plastids of a host plant helps boost the synthesis of acetyl CoA, which in turn, may lead to increased synthesis of fatty acids and enhanced oil accumulation in the seeds.

  • Publication number: 20140160595
Abstract: Approaches for an emergency power off (EPO) power island, for saving critical data to non-volatile memory in the event of an EPO condition, for use in a hard-disk drive (HDD) storage device. The EPO power island includes a controller for detecting an EPO condition. A voltage regulator supplies power from spindle motor back EMF only to the EPO power island and to the non-volatile memory. Thus, the remainder of the hard drive controller (HDC) is isolated from the EPO power island so that it will not corrupt the data as the HDC's power supply is decaying. Using the power provided by the voltage regulator, the EPO power island transfers critical data from a memory internal to the island to a non-volatile memory external to the island, such as to a flash memory chip.

  • Patent number: 8752056
Abstract: Provided is a method that enables an interpretive engine to execute in a non-homogeneous, multiple processor architecture. Am interpretive engine is modified to identify code native to a target processor that is executing an ISA different than the ISA of the processor executing the interpretive engine. An intermediate function is called to correlate the native code with a processor type and a target processor is identified. A context is created for the native code and the context is either transmitted to the target processor or stored in a memory location such that the target processor may retrieve the context. Once the context is transmitted, the target processor executes the task. Results are either transmitted to the originating processor or placed in memory such that the originating processor can access the result and the originating processor is signaled of the completion of the task.

  • Publication number: 20140152686
Abstract: A method of local tone mapping of a high dynamic range (HDR) image is provided that includes dividing a luminance image of the HDR image into overlapping blocks and computing a local tone curve for each block, computing a tone mapped value for each pixel of the luminance image as a weighted sum of values computed by applying local tone curves of neighboring blocks to the pixel value, computing a gain for each pixel as a ratio of the tone mapped value to the value of the pixel, and applying the gains to corresponding pixels in the HDR image. A weight for each value is computed based on distance from the pixel to the center point of the block having the local tone curve applied to compute the value and the intensity difference between the value of the pixel and the block mean pixel value.

  • Publication number: 20140152328
Abstract: A system includes a signal generator and a correlator. The signal generator outputs a first signal to a first end of a capacitance to be measured. The correlator is connected to an output of the signal generator that outputs the first signal and to a second end of the capacitance. The correlator receives the first signal from the output of the signal generator and receives a second signal from the second end of the capacitance. The correlator correlates the first signal and the second signal and generates an output signal based on a correlation between the first signal and the second signal. The output signal is proportional to a capacitance value of the capacitance.

  • Publication number: 20140156720
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a method and network device for control plane protection for various tables using storm prevention entries. Specifically, the disclosed system receives a first packet, and creates an inactive entry in a table. The system then forwards the first packet from a first processor to a second processor for processing. Also, the system associates the inactive entry with a timestamp indicating when the first packet is forwarded to the second processor, and determines a configured interval (CI) associated with the table. Further, the system compares a difference between a current timestamp and the timestamp associated with the inactive entry against the CI upon receiving a second packet. If the difference is longer than the CI, the system associates the inactive entry with the current timestamp, and forwards the second packet to the second processor for processing. Otherwise, the system discards the second packet.
