  • Publication number: 20150010535
Abstract: This application is based, inter alia, on the discovery of a binding interaction between the Hn-33 hemagglutinin polypeptide of the type A Clostridium botulinum neurotoxin complex and synaptosomal proteins, including synaptotagmin II (Syt II). Methods of screening for compounds that modulate, e.g., increase or decrease, this interaction are provided. Also provided are compositions and methods for targeting compounds to neuronal and cancer cells by coupling the compounds to Hn-33 or biologically active Hn-33 variants.

  • Publication number: 20140130267
Abstract: A cleaning and disinfecting composition comprises a long-chain alkyl polyamine, such as dodecyl dipropylene triamine; a long-chain quaternary ammonium salt, such as N,N-didecyl-N,N-dimethylammonium chloride; and a metal carbonate salt, such as potassium carbonate, all in aqueous solution. A sequestering agent, a long-chain alkyl polyethoxylate, an alkanolamine and an anti-corrosive agent may also be present. The composition has a pH of at least 11 when diluted to an in-use concentration, and may be used to clean and disinfect hard surfaces, such as medical, dental and surgical implements, walls, floors, sinks and hard furnishing surfaces, or soft surfaces such as bedding, upholstery or clothing. The composition is effective as a virucide, a sporicide, a bacteriocide, a fungicide, and against yeasts and moulds, without harming the substrate cleansed.

  • Patent number: 8586081
Abstract: The present invention relates to the isolation of polypeptides derived from the Clostridium botulinum neurotoxin and the use thereof as immunogens for the production of vaccines and antitoxins, as well as research and drug development applications. Clostridium botulinum is responsible for food bone botulism, a severe and often deadly disease. Botulinum neurotoxin binds to neural cells and are translocated into the cytosol. The toxin then prevents neurotransmitter release by cleaving a SNARE protein. A double mutant E224A/E262 full length botulinum neurotoxin Type A holo form was successfully cloned and purified, which lacks the endopeptidase activity involved in the toxic action of the BoNT, and thus leading to its detoxification (DR BoNT/A). This new molecule can be used as an antidote against botulism, and also as a vaccine candidate for botulism. Due to the poor availability and extreme toxicity of native holo-toxin, a nontoxic form of the holo-toxin is highly desired for research and vaccine development.

  • Publication number: 20070261139
Abstract: Methods for producing hybrids between domestic and wild soybean that are fertile and can be further bred with other soybean plants are provided, thus allowing transfer of desirable traits and genes from the wild soybean into the domestic soybean. This invention also provides novel media for producing callus and multiple somatic embryos, as well as novel media for producing multiple shoots from the embryos. The hybrid plants are made fertile by colchicine treatment to double their chromosome number so that they can be backcrossed into domestic soybean. These methods and media allow the production of elite soybean lines containing traits or genes from wild soybean as well as a minimum amount of additional wild soybean DNA. Backcrosses containing only one wild soybean chromosome can be produced, as well as sets of such backcrossed lines that each contain one chromosome from the wild ancestor, but collectively all the wild chromosomes from the hybrid ancestor.

  • Publication number: 20070239767
Abstract: Generally described, embodiments of the present invention provide the ability to assign primary keys and foreign keys to lists of any number of sites that are maintained by a database hosting service. More specifically, a scalable table, like the master table described below, may continue to be used without specifying primary keys or foreign keys within the table by using two additional tables in which the keys are specified for each list of each site. Integrity may be maintained by confirming that all changes to either a primary key or foreign key are appropriate before applying the changes to the master table.
