  • Patent number: 7161159
Abstract: A dual beam system includes an ion beam system and a scanning electron microscope with a magnetic objective lens. The ion beam system is adapted to operate optimally in the presence of the magnetic field from the SEM objective lens, so that the objective lens is not turned off during operation of the ion beam. An optional secondary particle detector and an optional charge neutralization flood gun are adapted to operate in the presence of the magnetic field. The magnetic objective lens is designed to have a constant heat signature, regardless of the strength of magnetic field being produced, so that the system does not need time to stabilize when the magnetic field is changed.

  • Publication number: 20070000683
Abstract: A versatile device that enables at least one receptacle to be installed in a raceway system. The versatile device includes a hanging box and a faceplate adapter. The hanging box is secured to the raceway system and the faceplate adapter is positioned over the hanging box and secured to the raceway system. The hanging box has a compartment that houses at least one receptacle and a removable divider wall that is positioned within the compartment. The faceplate adapter has a main body with an aperture for providing access to the hanging box. The main body of the faceplate adapter also has a removable section that is positioned within the aperture such that removal of the removable section expands the aperture.

  • Publication number: 20060255284
Abstract: Charged particles that are in transit through a deflection system when the beam is repositioned do not received the correct deflection force and are misdirected. By independently applying signals to the multiple stages of a deflection system, the number of misdirected particles during a pixel change is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6948128
Abstract: A nonlinear editing system for audio, video and/or other source materials comprises a system to define at least one time line representing the edit, the time line being represented in the editing system as an operator graph. The operator graph includes operators, representing sources and time-based effects, and time varying connections therebetween. For each period of the defined time line wherein the connections do not change, a expression tree comprising a simplified representation of the operators and the connections required to render that portion of the time line is extracted. Each expression tree can be examined to ensure that all of the required sources and/or connections are available to render that portion of the time line in real time and, if this is not the case, a determination can be made of which portions of the expression tree can be pre-rendered to an intermediate result, the intermediate result being substituted into expression tree to provide real time rendering.

  • Patent number: 6354438
Abstract: This invention relates to a multi-layer lithographically fabricated device used to produce improved thin-film recording heads. It further relates to a focused particle beam system for milling a recording head pole-tip assembly without irradiating a sensitive structure, e.g. a read head, of the recording head. The invention precisely forms a pole-tip assembly by milling a second structural element without irradiating a first structural element. The invention avoids irradiating the first structural element by placing a first marker element, which can be imaged and/or damaged, in the same layer of a multi-layer lithographically fabricated device as the first structural element. The marker element has a fixed spatial relationship to the first structural element.

  • Patent number: 6160548
Abstract: A method and system for synchronizing modules associated with audiovisual devices, generally for use with a digital non-linear editor. A logical clock communicates information, including time and state (clock operating mode) information, to hardware and software modules through a synchronization port. The synchronization ports convert the time information into values recognizable by the module, and offset the time as needed to maintain synchronization. The state information may effect module commands for controlling audiovisual devices, such as rewind, playback and capture commands to tape players, timed such that various devices having different preparatory timing requirements are synchronized. State information, such as information indicating that a device is ready, may be returned by the modules. Video editing features such as scrubbing, looping and frame-stepping are supported by the mode information that is communicated between the clock and the synchronization ports.

  • Patent number: 6023703
Abstract: A method and system for representing hierarchical time-based data structures and to extract information therefrom comprises means to create a container, the container having one or more layers within which data elements are arranged along the container axis and to examine the container to produce virtual static graphs which represent active data elements and their interconnections within time durations represented within the container. The data elements in the container can change between active and inactive states with time and the connections between data elements can also change with time and the container represents this information. A set of constraints is defined for the container such that interconnections between data elements only occur between data elements in different layers. Specifically, a data element can only receive input from one or more other data elements which are in lower levels and a data element can only provide output to one or more data elements which are in higher levels.

  • Patent number: 5916424
Abstract: Thin-film magnetic recording heads and systems and processes for manufacturing the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the invention is understood as a focused particle beam system that includes a pattern recognition element and that employs the pattern recognition element to image and analyze the pole-tip assembly footprint of a recording head and that employs a processor to generate instruction signals that direct a focused particle beam to remove selected portions of the recording head and thereby shape the pole-tip assembly of the recording head. The focused particle beam system provides a precision milling device that can employ the coordinate information to mill selectively the recording head and thereby shape the geometry of the pole-tip assembly footprint, including geometries that have contoured surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5781188
Abstract: For use in composing and/or editing a multimedia work that include one or more clips, a technique for indicating an active state of the clip or portion thereof, indicating effects applied to a track or a clip, and indicating a plurality of effects applied to a track or to a clip. At least a portion of the work is graphically represented by one or more timelines on which are disposed one or more clips. An active portion of a clip is indicated by a colored bar that extends under that portion of the clip. Different types of transitions between clips are indicated by using one of different predetermined colors for the colored bar. Effects applied to a track are also represented by color bars that extend above the portion of the track to which the effects apply and are independent of changes to any clip disposed on the track. Predetermined colors are used to indicate the type or class of effect(s) applied. A plurality of effects applied to a clip or to a track are indicated by stacking the colored bars.

  • Patent number: 4257617
Abstract: A shaft seal assembly comprises contact seal rings which are inserted into a recess formed within labyrinth seal rings encompassing the shaft. The contact seal rings are adapted to be in sealing engagement with the shaft when the shaft is not rotating or the shaft speed is relatively slow. The contact seal rings are moved radially outward with respect to the rotary shaft when the shaft speed is increased. Buffer liquid generates the force to move the contact seal rings radially outward from sealing engagement with the shaft and at the same time establishes a barrier for process fluid when the shaft speed is increased.
