  • Patent number: 9648634
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for enabling improved performance on a multi-subscriber identification module (multi-SIM) wireless communication device. The wireless communication device may detect transmit activity on a modem stack associated with the first SIM, and detect a communication activity scheduled on a modem stack associated with the second SIM having a higher priority. If the transmit activity on the modem stack of the first SIM will impede the communication activity, the wireless device may identify subframes on the modem stack associated with the first SIM that overlap in time with the communication activity and for each identified subframe, blank symbols that conflict with the communication activity to develop a partially blanked subframe. The partially blanked subframe may be transmitted according to a blanking policy.

  • Publication number: 20170127439
Abstract: Various embodiments may include methods for handling collisions between a first subscription and a second subscription of a wireless communication device. In various embodiments, a processor of the wireless communication device may determine whether there are persistent collisions between periodic paging wake-ups on the first subscription and periodic inter-RAT measurements on the second subscription. When persistent collisions are detected, the time for performing each inter-RAT measurement on the second subscription may be extended sufficient to enable completing inter-RAT measurements on the second subscription. The amount by which the time for performing inter-RAT measurements is extended may depend upon the timing and duration of the persistent collisions.

  • Publication number: 20170086210
Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods for managing inter-radio access technology (IRAT) procedure concurrency between subscriptions on a multi-subscription multi-active communication device. A device processor may identify a higher-priority subscription and a lower-priority subscription on the multi-subscription multi-active communication device. The device processor may determine whether an IRAT procedure on the lower-priority subscription will overlap in time with an IRAT procedure on the higher-priority subscription. The device processor may calculate a deferral time period for the lower-priority subscription in response to determining that the IRAT procedure on the lower-priority subscription will overlap in time with the IRAT procedure on the higher-priority subscription.

  • Publication number: 20170086094
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for managing uplink communication activities of a wireless communication device associated with a first subscription and a second subscription. First, a trigger event related to de-sensing of the first subscription by the second subscription is detected. The wireless communication device refrains from requesting uplink (UL) grants for the second subscription from a network for the second subscription in response to detecting the trigger event.

  • Patent number: 9603069
Abstract: Mobility management is described for simultaneous, multiple radio access technology (RAT) user equipments (UEs). When the UE detects a mobility event that would trigger transfer of a communication service from a first RAT to a second RAT, the UE determines whether there is an existing connection to a base station of the second RAT and uses cached measurement information related to this base station to influence or weight how the transfer is performed/handled/managed.

  • Patent number: 9591527
Abstract: A method for improving data throughput on a subscription includes: filtering data traffic throughput on a first subscription; comparing the filtered data traffic throughput to a threshold data rate; determining if the filtered data traffic throughput is greater than a threshold data rate value; and in response to a determination that the filtered data traffic throughput is equal to or less than the threshold data rate value, determining whether a tune away (TA) mode different than a first TA mode increases data traffic throughput on the first subscription.

  • Publication number: 20160353516
Abstract: Various embodiments include methods implemented on a mobile communication device for sharing network information among subscriptions when both a first subscription and a second subscription are in an idle mode. The methods may include determining whether the first subscription and the second subscription share a network operator and are camped on a same base station. If so, the first subscription may receive network information from the base station and store the network information in a shared memory of the mobile communication device that can be accessed by the second subscription. The second subscription may then perform some idle mode operations using the network information stored in the shared memory.

  • Publication number: 20160323256
Abstract: Various embodiments for performing remote authentication of a virtual subscriber identity module (SIM) on a mobile communication device include receiving, on a first subscription of the mobile communication device, an authentication request from a virtual SIM network. The mobile communication device may tune from the first subscription to a second subscription of the mobile communication device to send the authentication request to a remote server and periodically perform tune-aways between the first subscription and the second subscription while determining whether the remote server has sent an authentication response through the second subscription. The mobile communication device may send the authentication response to the virtual SIM network through the first subscription in response to determining that the remote server has sent an authentication response through the second subscription.

  • Patent number: 9484974
Abstract: The various embodiments include methods and apparatuses for canceling nonlinear interference during concurrent communication of multi-technology wireless communication devices. Nonlinear interference may be estimated using a multilayer perceptron neural network with Hammerstein structure by dividing an aggressor signal into real and imaginary components, augmenting the components by weight factors, executing a linear combination of the augmented components, and executing a nonlinear sigmoid function for the combined components at a hidden layer of multilayer perceptron neural network to produce a hidden layer output signal. At an output layer, hidden layer output signals may be augmented by weight factors, and the augmented hidden layer output signals may be linearly combined to produce real and imaginary components of an estimated jammer signal.

  • Patent number: 9445276
Abstract: Various embodiments leverage the typical manner in which a RAT selects a supported frequency band listed in its acquisition database and the standard communications with its network indicating the supported frequency bands to avoid potential coexistence events with one or more other RATs. In particular, various embodiments include methods for avoiding band interference between RATs operating on a multi-SIM communication device by identifying the frequency bands available to each of the RATs, comparing the identified frequency bands to determine whether any RAT's frequency bands will interfere with one or more other RAT's frequency bands, and in response to determining that there is a possibility of frequency band interference, removing those interfering frequency bands from that RAT's acquisition database. As a result, during standard communications, that RAT will report to its network that it supports only non-interfering frequency bands.

  • Patent number: 9414429
Abstract: Techniques for maintaining an always-on data session for an access terminal are described. Messages to keep alive the data session may be sent using non-traffic channels to avoid bringing up traffic channels just to send these messages. In one design, an access network may send a first message (e.g., a RouteUpdateRequest message) on a first non-traffic channel (e.g., a control channel) to the access terminal. The access terminal may return a second message (e.g., a RouteUpdate message) on a second non-traffic channel (e.g., an access channel) to the access network. The access network may then send a third message (e.g., for an Echo-Request) on the first non-traffic channel over a smaller area covering an approximate location of the access terminal, which may be determined based on the second message. The access terminal may return a fourth message (e.g., for an Echo-Reply) on the second non-traffic channel to the access network.

  • Publication number: 20160205663
Abstract: Embodiments include methods implemented by a processor of a mobile communication device for managing tune-aways by a radio frequency resource supporting a first subscription to support a second subscription. The processor may determine a data loss ratio of the data of a media file that is lost in transmission to the mobile communication device. The processor may compare the data loss ratio of the data to a first data loss ratio threshold and a second data loss ratio threshold, and the processor may block a tune-away event of the radio frequency resource from the first subscription to the second subscription in response to determining that the data loss ratio of the data is greater than the first data loss ratio threshold and less than the second data loss ratio threshold.

  • Publication number: 20160198352
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed for managing diversity tune-away on a wireless communication device configured with at least two radio frequency (RF) receive resources associated with a connection in a high speed data network. The wireless device may monitor data communications and downlink channel conditions in the high speed data network, and determine whether a diversity tune-away mode has been entered. Upon determining that the diversity tune-away mode has been entered, the wireless device may perform a deliberate acknowledgment procedure by ignoring normal error detection for received data and sending an acknowledgment message for the received data to the high speed data network. The wireless device may determine whether the diversity tune-away mode has ended, and in response to determining that the diversity tune-away mode has ended, and halt the deliberate acknowledgment procedure in response to determining that the diversity tune-away mode has ended.
