  • Publication number: 20150282059
Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems embodiments enable management of service preemption of at least one of a plurality of subscriptions that utilize a plurality of radio-frequency (RF) chains on a multi-Subscriber-Identity-Module, multi-active communication device in a manner that can accommodate a variety of different RF hardware components and configurations. Various embodiments provide methods implemented by a processor to manage service preemption. In response to detecting that a service of a second subscription initiated on a first RF chain is or will preempt a service of a first subscription that is also serviced by the first RF chain, the processor may determine whether there is a similar service on a second RF chain that may be used as a substitute for the first subscription's preempted service and, when available, the processor may configure the first subscription to begin utilizing the substitute service until the first RF chain is available.

  • Patent number: 9119172
Abstract: The various embodiments include methods for managing how a multi-SIM-multi-standby (MSMS) communication device that is accessing an arbitrary combination of multiple telephony networks processes paging collisions. The embodiment methods promote the control of the paging block rates for two or more subscriptions, in which a subscription's paging block rate is the subscription's number of blocked pages during a certain time multiplied by the subscription's discontinuous reception cycle. In the various embodiments, an MSMS communication device may implement a fair paging conflict resolution algorithm to keep each subscription's paging block rate approximately equal over time.

  • Publication number: 20150201338
Abstract: A base station may allocate served user equipments (UEs) into measurement gap groups, which are configured to reduce the overlap between UE measurement gaps used for inter-RAT measurement. The base station may configure the measurement gap groups based on an offset between subframes of a served and measured RAT and may distribute UEs in the measurement gap groups to avoid overlapping inter-RAT measurement times, thereby reducing idle base station resources.

  • Publication number: 20150173082
Abstract: The various embodiments provide methods implemented in a MSMA communication device for managing a victim subscription's de-sense by proactively implementing an RF coexistence management strategy on the victim subscription when an RF coexistence event starts. In various embodiments, a MSMA communication device may implement an RF coexistence management strategy by determining when an aggressor subscription will de-sense a victim subscription and configuring the victim to anticipate and mitigate de-sense during the aggressor's transmissions. Thus, the various embodiments may provide dramatic improvements to the victim's overall reception performance and overall user experience.

  • Patent number: 9042889
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate avoiding one or more wireless communication systems based at least in part on determining a level of unreliability of a reverse link channel related to a system. This can be based at least in part on determining whether the system can be accessed over the reverse link channel. If not, the wireless communication system can be avoided to conserve power utilized to perform such access attempts. Where the unreliability is temporary, however, some access attempts can be performed for systems of higher priority than a current system during the period of avoidance of one or more higher priority systems.

  • Publication number: 20150139015
Abstract: Various embodiments enable a multi-active mobile communication device to mitigate (manage) interference by a frequency band used by a first subscription with the frequency band used by a second subscription. The device processor may generate modified power measurements for one or more frequency bands of a first subscription and use the modified power measurement(s) to cause the first subscription to switch from the frequency band that interferes with the frequency band of the second subscription. The modified power measurement may be a decreased power measurement of the first frequency band and/or an increased power measurement of a second frequency band that does not interfere with the frequency band of the second subscription. As a result, various embodiments may mitigate or otherwise manage the impact of coexistence interference between the first and second subscriptions of a multi-active mobile communication device without limiting capabilities of the device or changes to the network.

  • Publication number: 20150119103
Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for prioritizing communication technologies to allocate resources in a mobile device. The mobile device may employ a dual subscription, dual active (DSDA) configuration in which two subscriptions may be associated with concurrently active communications, such as voice or data calls. The mobile device may identify current states that indicate the type of communications associated with the subscriptions. In an embodiment, an applications processor within the mobile device may perform the state identifications. The mobile device may determine priorities of the concurrently active subscriptions based on the identified states. In an embodiment, the priorities may be determined by a modem processor within the mobile device. When the priorities are determined to be the same, the mobile device may perform a tiebreaker algorithm to further identify priorities. Based on the determined priorities, the mobile device may allocate resources to favor the subscription with the higher priority.

  • Patent number: 8982713
Abstract: Techniques to configure quality of service (QoS) for communication are described. An access terminal configures a first QoS profile prior to a call. This QoS profile is for a set of QoS parameters that provides certain QoS. The access terminal thereafter establishes (e.g., originates or terminates) a call with an access network. If the first QoS profile is appropriate for the call, then QoS is not reconfigured. However, the access terminal may determine that a second QoS profile is to be used for the call, e.g., based on a format or a rate set supported by a remote/other terminal for the call. The access terminal would then configure the second QoS profile during the call. The access terminal may exchange data in accordance with (a) the first QoS profile before the second QoS profile is configured and activated and (b) the second QoS profile after it is configured and activated.

  • Publication number: 20150056985
Abstract: In various aspects, the disclosure provides the capability for a UE to implement a partial PLMN scan, providing quick results to a user's request for a manual PLMN scan, in a way that is expedited relative to the conventional method of providing PLMN results only when a full scan is completed. In further aspects, the disclosure provides for various optimizations to expedite a PLMN scan, which may be implemented either with the partial PLMN scan, or in a full PLMN scan, to further expedite the provision of PLMN scan results to the user.

  • Publication number: 20140364123
Abstract: Mobility management is described for simultaneous, multiple radio access technology (RAT) user equipments (UEs). When the UE detects a mobility event that would trigger transfer of a communication service from a first RAT to a second RAT, the UE determines whether there is an existing connection to a base station of the second RAT and uses cached measurement information related to this base station to influence or weight how the transfer is performed/handled/managed.

  • Patent number: 8903393
Abstract: The disclosure relates to techniques for maintaining minimum quality of service (QoS) communication sessions with a wireless communication device (WCD) over a data-based communication network during a hard handoff between access networks for the WCD. More specifically, the techniques determine whether a closed connection between the WCD and a first access network during a minimum QoS communication session is due to a hard handoff between the first access network and a second access network. In the case of a hard handoff, the techniques maintain open QoS reservations associated with data flows included in the minimum QoS communication session for a predetermined period of time to enable a new connection to be established between the WCD and a second access network. The techniques described herein may especially useful when performing a voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) call over an Evolution-Data Optimized (EVDO) communication network.

  • Publication number: 20140274168
Abstract: The various embodiments include methods for managing how a DSDS mobile communication device that is accessing an arbitrary combination of any two mobile telephony networks processes paging collisions. The embodiment methods promote the control of the paging block rates for two distinct subscriptions, in which a subscription's paging block rate is the long-term percentage of its blocked paging messages over its total number of received paging messages. In the various embodiments, a mobile communication device may use a paging blocking bias to achieve a particular paging blocking rate. The paging blocking bias may be set or adjusted through various means to cause a first subscription to have a paging blocking rate that is less than, equal to, or greater than a paging blocking rate for a second subscription.
