  • Publication number: 20050025122
Abstract: A method and system for communication in a system area network (SAN) data processing system are described. The SAN includes a plurality of interconnected nodes that each have at least one port for communication. To avoid communication-induced errors that may arise, for example, if multiple nodes share the same node ID, the port of a node in the SAN is marked as “fenced” to prevent transmission of packets of a first traffic type while permitting transmission of packets of a second traffic type. The marking of the port may be recorded, for example, in a configuration register of the port. While the port is fenced, only packets of other than the first traffic type are routed via the port. In one preferred embodiment, the second traffic type represents SAN configuration traffic, and the first traffic type represents non-configuration traffic.

  • Patent number: 6120411
Abstract: A control methodology for regulating the power input and output of an inertial energy storage device, such as a flywheel. The control methodology utilizes a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and comprises control of the CVT speed ratio based on feedback of the CVT output torque. The CVT ratio control signal is based on an error signal equal to the difference between operator input and CVT output torque. Operator input may be a positive or a negative value, a negative value corresponding to regenerative power. Operator input corresponds to required force or torque analogous to throttle opening or braking effort.

  • Patent number: 5913874
Abstract: A cartridge for use in a medical instrument having a body and a sheath extending from the body. The preferred medical device has a housing, opposed tissue manipulators, and a tissue transecting blade mounted for reciprocal movement with respect to the housing and manipulators. The housing is mountable within the instrument's sheath for reciprocal sliding with respect to the sheath.

  • Patent number: 4068949
Abstract: Document handling device for placement onto an existing reciprocating document carriage of a photocopy machine to provide support for photocopying documents such as billing statement ledger cards. The document handling device is of one piece construction having a recessed inclined staging tray for storage of documents prior to photocopying, a steeply inclined surface portion with document retainer surface projections for separating and feeding of documents, a transparent document exposure access to coincide with a transport window of the reciprocating document carriage, and a recessed inclined stacker tray for storing documents which have been photocopied. The document handling device has two bottom projections to fit into existing indentations of the reciprocating document carriage and a cutout portion to accommodate a copy sheet length selector knob located on the reciprocating document carriage.
