  • Publication number: 20170211538
Abstract: Methods and systems for diagnosis and control of an internal combustion engine using vibration data obtained from a vibration sensor mounted on the engine includes filtering vibration data within a predetermined engine combustion time period, where the vibration data is indicative of a vibration of an internal combustion engine, determining a peak cylinder pressure (PCP) of a combustion cycle of the internal combustion engine based on the filtered vibration data, determining a location of peak cylinder pressure (LPP) of the combustion cycle of the internal combustion engine based on the filtered vibration data, where the PCP and the LPP are indicative of a performance characteristic of the combustion cycle, and modifying an ignition timing of the internal combustion engine based on the determined PCP and LPP.

  • Publication number: 20170176280
Abstract: An apparatus includes a sensor module, an offset diagnostic module, and a notification module. The sensor module is in operative communication with a cylinder pressure sensor and structured to acquire cylinder pressure data from the cylinder pressure sensor indicative of an actual in-cylinder pressure of a cylinder of an engine. The offset diagnostic module is structured to interpret the cylinder pressure data to determine an offset of the cylinder pressure sensor based on a reference in-cylinder pressure and the actual in-cylinder pressure. The notification module is structured to provide an offset error notification responsive to the offset being greater than a threshold offset.

  • Publication number: 20170044999
Abstract: Methods and apparatus relate to air handling for an internal combustion engine system, particularly utilizing premixed air and fuel. The engine system includes an intake air throttle (IAT) having a position set in response to the engine speed and a variable valve timing module having an intake valve timing set in response to the engine load. The variable valve timing module may be a cam phaser having a position at or between full retard and full advance positions. The engine system may operate in a transient mode or a fuel efficiency mode. The IAT position is adjusted in response to an engine speed error value or set at full throttle. • Patent number: 9435310
Abstract: This disclosure provides system and method that can determine hydraulic start of injection (SOI) in engines using an in-cylinder pressure sensor. The system and method iteratively perform a wavelet transform on a signal based on the pressure information provided by the in-cylinder pressure sensors to determine a detail coefficient corresponding to a frequency band containing frequencies of pressure pulsations excited from a fuel jet injected into the cylinder. Hydraulic SOI is determined at the timing when the amplitude of the determined detail coefficient satisfies a predetermined threshold. The system and method provide diagnostic, control, and/or compensation opportunities for fuel injector operation in high pressure fuel rail engine systems without use of expensive or complex fuel injector components.
